The Existential Absurdity of Posting in the Forums

Oh they're gorgeous! I'd have missed them if I didn't come onto the forums - surely that's reason enough?

I post here because almost everyone dislikes a perverted, blunt, smartass bitch.. and forum spanks are a lot easier on the butt than real ones


I read here because I'm lazy, and you all are my enablers...
-Don't have read the blogs, someone always posts about it here first.
-Don't have to take any SL classes, plenty of good info here.
-Don't have to read the news, most topics covered here.
-Don't have to complain or vent about LL, someone's always got that covered.
-Don't have to seek out different types of people, one of every kind is here.
-Don't have to search for a drama fix, there's always at least one floating around.
-Don't have to search inworld for the good shops, there's lists of them to be found here.
-Don't have to read about other virtual worlds, plenty of their test pilots post here.
-Don't have to participate in a good discussion, so many happen here without me.
-Don't have to look very hard for my cute-N-fuzzy fix, Lolcats and mustelids abound.
-Don't have to use the restroom, some here really take the piss.
-Don't have to flirt with anyone, others here have done that and summarized for me.
-Don't have to argue with people anymore, lots of hands raised in the back of the room.
-Don't have to test the "what happens if..", others have driven that road before me.
-Don't have to meet people to hear their ideas, they're already in writing for me.
-Don't have to feel bad about being a perv, some here make me feel like a prude.
-Don't have to wait till after supper for pie, it has its own food group here.
-Don't have to ponder all of lifes truly important things, *points to Jig*.
-Don't have to go very far to find a fresh outlook, more wisdom here than Moses had.
-Don't have to STFU, but I will

Mostly I just love SL and this allows me to meet and learn about a wider variety then I might in world. It lets me keep informed about a lot of little this and thats I would miss.

Bored. Looking for a short term flexible time waster. Looking for LOLz. Looking for engaging yet superficial conversation. There is a reason I am here instead of political, religious or medical websites. I have enough stress IRL, no matter how heated things get here, it is still just mostly talk about a computer game/world.

I do like and enjoy the people here. But it can't cost me too much emotionally, because of the medium and the topics; and I like that.

When the reason doesn't match up with the outcome.....kind of makes you stop and think. And yes...absurdity would be included in that thought process.

Ok, I admit: addicted to LolCats...

The primary existential absurdity is that anything exists at all.

Once you grant that, absurdity should be expected since it's an inherent property of reality.

Especially from certain of us here.

But, back to your question, I tend to subscribe to Kurt Vonnegut's theory that most groups are simply surrogates for the extended family or clan. In his address to the Society of Arts and Letters, he says (roughly paraphrased, and from memory) "You guys could really give a shit about arts and letters; you're really here just to have something in common." No doubt he put it more eloquently, but not particularly more politely, IIRC.

On the other hand, I also often come here for answers to specific questions. But that's the minority.
