I been contemplating lately what the draw of posting in forums is-- for myself and everyone else that seems to be addicted to it. Are we just that bored? Looking for a LOL? Attention whores? Showing off our cleverness or logicz or otherwise wagging our magnificent tail feathers if not actually posting pictures of them? Winning the threadz? Seeking SL fame and fortune? Creating drama? Venting? Helping people? Making friends? Making enemies? Defining ourselves and others? Relaxing? Avoiding something else we are supposed to be doing? Whiling away the time until we can get home to a puter that's got SL capabilities? Something else I haven't thought of? What does it all mean??? And do you subscribe to Freud's "will to pleasure," Frankl's "will to meaning" or Smif's "will to LOLz"...? Maybe the "will to LOLz" is actually the end-all/be-all and the obvious climax of pleasurez and meaningz??? And BTW does anybody ever read the old threads? Will these forums even BE archived? Will they be lost in some "accidental" blip of the servers? Could the data somehow survive into the distant future, where our descendants (or perhaps an alien culture) will read these words and wonder WTH we were on about??? Anyway, why do you do it??? And stay on topic, you buggers!! Cuz I said so!! No derailing the thread for LOLz and definitely no ferret pictures or LOLcats!!! I was gonna make this more of an epic rant, but then I decided that would be pointless. Oh, and happy Hump Day

I post out of religious conviction.

Pretty much everything you said, at one time or another. I was never very good at being one dimensional. *wink* Oh, and also because I'm really shy in SL and don't like to talk to people there.

I have woken up. I stare out across the lake, my window is open. I drink my coffee and I post coz I know I gotta put my slap on and get going or I gotta answer a pile of emails from everywhichway or I gotta contend with drama and decisions and people vying for my decisions. This is a nice escape.
Anyway, I live alone in a rambling house and it's a bit of company across my breakfast table. Pep is a bit like having a permanently to-hand "Disgruntled Retired General - Tunbridge Wells" - he'll know what I mean, but my Grandmother always went on about Times letters like that - and now I know what she meant.
Anyway, I really do have to go, I just realized I have to listen to 12 cds and comment on them and I havent done it yet. Bugger! Serious!!

OP needs more depitation to be taken seriously. I recommend hiring Pep as a consultant for this.

From: Smith Peel I been contemplating lately what the draw of posting in forums is-- for myself and everyone else that seems to be addicted to it. [...] First thing that sprang to mind was a snippet from one of the Coldplay songs I like. Always thought it kinda applied to t'Interwebz too, whether people post seriously, jokingly or merely to extract the Michael out of everyone - it all boils down to the same thing. "The first line of the first page To the end of the last place You were looking From the start in your own way You just want Somebody listening to what you say It doesn’t matter who you are" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40_rnzF8VWgFrom: Smith Peel Oh, and happy Hump Day http://www.comments.zingerbugimages.com/glitter_graphics/happy_hump_day_camel.gif-- Aes

From: 3Ring Binder algebra is the suck! Yes, and Logic is even more LOLz. (Read: Rizzy is shy if and only if Smif's ass is a hole in the ground ) There is a section of my book called "Recreational Mathematics"... Now that is a LOL!!!! Edit: Just now I nearly made the grave error of almost pasting Aeslyn's Hump Day Camel into my class bulletin board instead of the Wikipedia Table of Logic page that I meant to.
