As you can see i took a leaf out of someones book and revamped my signature...
now i spent one day posting my tush off and ... lo and behold.. my ranking in the ALL search went up...
then i got so tired of posting that i stopped and went back to content creation.. and lo and behold.. my ranking in the ALL search went down.
very very interesting because.. how do search engines work?
simple answer ... * They search the Internet -- or select pieces of the Internet -- based on important words. * They keep an index of the words they find, and where they find them. * They allow users to look for words or combinations of words found in that index.
so if a signature is written properly and then you post and post as much as possible.. wouldnt it follow that one gets indexed a lot too....
so.. next step.. sponsored signatures in internet forums..
food for thought.. i gonna go get some food for tummy.

Yes, your signature is perfectly ethical. Can I guess who's sig inspired yours? I suggest that your rankings going up and down in sync with your posts was just coincidence.

From: eku Zhong I am sure youd like to suggest that lol I'm serious. The SL engine doesn't crawl the web, and it doesn't convert text URLs, like the one you have in your sig, to links so that it benefits the target page. Also, it isn't even the text of your parcel's page's URL. Plus, the ranking wouldn't go down because you stop posting - the posts/pages still exist. It was just coincidence.

My signature is probably the most un-ethical on the forum at the moment. (^_^)y

Hmm.. I have my shop location and the one JIRA I really want voted for. So, I got my plug and my civic duty! I'm unethical!

Yeah, I've been curious about people's thoughts on "signa-tisements" myself. It seems silly for people on the forums here not to at least know what the heck it is I do. Maybe I'd feel differently if I could figure out an (affordable) way to get off page 2384967234 of in-world search results

Ive been helping Eku in his experiment.
Its an interesting Idea.
If true, It would explain a few things about how some posters around here behave.
----------- If Eku is on to something ..
I wouldn't chalk it up as unethical though - particularly for people who are using the same posting pattern they always did.
Instead I would chalk it up to poor implementation by whoever but it all together.

If it's like phpBB, they all change. Sigs are added at the time of compiling the page for viewing, and are not stored along with each post.

Just later ones do. Doesn't seem to be the case. I don't like the concepts of adverts in signatures in a forum where advertising is disallowed. However as it seems signatures change to your current one then unless they disable signatures, they're going to appear.

OK- so... change or not (and for me they do) having it will somehow influence placing?
And I cannot see why it would be unethical to have your place in your siggy - anyone can choose not to see signatures- plus it's not like I am interjecting announcements of a new this or that available now- quick come see it- that is advertising and I agree shd be off these pages. If it relates to what u r talking about then i dont think it is advertising and do not mind seeing it occasionally - I have done it m self several times - I think if I managed to post new pix of stuff constantly or at least often enough someone wd have sd - hey quit advertising here. I do think about it before i stick in a pic of something of mine to be honest, just because of that- don't want to be pushy. There is such a thing as negative advertising.

thats what Eku was looking into. He hadn't moved in Months he said. Then suddenly he changed his sig to resemble Dr. Phil's made 20 or so posts and he went up several rankings overnight.

On a change of signature, all the posts are affected - old and new. The 'include sig' flag is saved per post, so posts without a sig won't suddenly get them but all posts with a sig will get the new one.
