From: Love Hastings A couple of months ago, at Crimson Shadow (not a place for children, I think). Oh, I remember now. It was one of those times I was acting less neko and more demony. Considering how small the percentage of human that went into making me, I am confused by how human I look most of the time (human, with furry ears and tail).

From: Imnotgoing Sideways Eh? (o.o) .... I go to Crimson Shadow all the time. (o.o)
I got a buncha their eyes and stuff and I've done two photo shoots there, both short and tall. (^_^)y I wouldn't let my SL kids go there, at least unattended. If I had any. Too many bad apples, if you know what I mean. Well, I mean in theory. CS is basically a ghost town from what I can tell.

From: Jezabell Barbosa ah ha ha ah. I like goth, I like emo. I also like fuzzy slippers and cherry lipgloss. I stopped being goth 15 years ago. I got my goth card revoked for being too positive and happy all the time. It apparently grates on the goth scene Okay, for you I'll wear my gothic Avid suit. It's all dark and spooky and has these strange tentacle lace things on the wrists. I'm not sure if it's some sort of Cthulhoid suit or not, but it looks pretty cool.

It apparently grates on the goth scene There was a goth scene 15 years ago? Well, OK - but it must not have been as ubiquitous and - though some might hate to hear me say it this way - trendy, as it is now. As near as I've been able to tell, goth broke out in the mid-90's around where I live. I actually watched it happen - or thought I did - at my high school; what had been the all-encompassing "stoner" crowd, identified by a fondness for what at the time was called "alternative rock", hit a Y in the road - with half of them going one way and becoming goth, and the other going a different way and becoming emo. I'd spent quite a while thinking this over and thought I had it sorted out. But if goth had a scene that long ago (and was a -thriving-, large scene and not just an experimental thing), that throws off my perception of history.

I was a goth in the late '80's. We used to listen to Siouxie & the Banshees and The Cure and bands like that. Appearance-wise I think the biggest difference was that we had big crimped hair rather than the hanging down straight styles of more recent goths. And you are right, it was not so ubiquitous as it is now, which of course made us much cooler. ahhh ... happy days ... well, not happy exactly, more sort of pouting miserably but sexily from the corner lol.

It was out long before the 90's - which is why there are those who are considered 'Old School Goth' that are none too fond of 'New School Goth' because, as Dakota said, it has become too trendy. It was awesome back in the day!

To be honest, though, that's not even attempting to RP, I assume it's just clicking HUD buttons. It's the laziness I object to. It's on a par with the friend request or random TP request.

I've developed taste since then tho. That era, start of the 80s at least, it was not called goth. It wasn't called anything. It was just very lazy punks with huge floppy hair. Oh dear lord. I thought I was the business back then. LMAO.

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen is a parody of Gothic novels. It came out around 1817, after the Goth popularity had already waned. She wrote it back in the heyday of Goth, but she didn't get it published in time to be as relevant as it might have been. Relevant to the period of time, at least. From: Eden Serpente Goth was around when I graduated high school, and that was 1985, so I'm with you there. But if goth had a scene that long ago (and was a -thriving-, large scene and not just an experimental thing), that throws off my perception of history. Actually, Goth began in the mid 80s, my friend. I was goth as far back as 1985, though we called it something else. It was still a propensity for wearing all black, pancake makeup, black nail polish, manic panic hair color (not everyone did the black hair), morose attitude, and a love for Sisters of Mercy and Echo and the Bunnymen. We went to clubs and did our slow and sad pirouettes on the dance floor just like they do now. And we still hung out at Dennys in large, deathlike mobs passing one cup of coffee around for hours on end and moping at the older crowd eating their Grand Slams. You'll just have to trust me on this. Goth was uhm. . .alive and well in the mid 80s and just grew in fits and spurts into a lot of different subcultures including spooky kids (Marilyn Manson crowd), Hot Topic kids, Vampire wannabes, Baroque and Victorian wannabes, and the ever reviled Perky Goths.

From: Sredni Eel Actually, Goth began in the mid 80s, my friend. Goth was around before the '80s. I have some vampire books copyright '70s with gothy characters in them. And, of course, there is what I mentioned before about Gothic books being popular in the 1700s/1800s. And the Goths were wandering Europe around the third and fourth centuries and tangled with the Romans. They even had a language called Gothic. Basically extinct by 8th century. Gothic architecture began around 12th century. Ah, the goth article on the "goth subculture" mentions post-punk bands labeled gothic in the '70s, so maybe that is why I have those books that mention gothic stuff from the 70's. There is also a moth called gothic. Naenia typica.

The Goths far predate the 80's -- they took part in the sacking of Rome during it's rapid decline (approximately 260AD onwards).
