From: Nyles Nestler Here's an idea: When the number of people online reaches a certain critical point, only residents with paid accounts would be able to log on, and that for every resident who logs on with a paid account, there will be one non-paying resident that is automatically logged off.... It doesn't make sense that there are non-paying residents in-world right now, but I'm unable to log on.... Excuuuuuse me. Well..... my primary account was created as Premium over a year ago, so when I created this account, I did not see a reason for another Premium. Changing the premium from the other account to this one would be too much of a pain cuz of land stuff. Yet this is the account that I always use now. And between tier and the money that I spend on Lindens each month, in addition to the other account's Premium fees, LL gets probably a couple of hundred out of me every month. So how do you actually qualify the 'paid account'? From: Claire Silverspar It HAD to happen on the night I was going to actually do something productive a sort my inventories..... Times like this is when I really really wish we could do inventory maintenance when not logged in. I would even pay for that ability.

From: Jannae Karas Damn it. A famous skin designer is selling off inventory @ $L199 a skin, and I can't log in. Tell me. It's my fave skin shop, I already own several of their lighter skin tone and I HAVE TO go and buy the rest of them before they're gone.....*gets fidgety*

From: Solomon Devoix The blog post referenced previously in this thread didn't say anything about kicking unpaid accounts offline during times of max logins; it said that logins would be restricted to premium accounts, and that if someone who was not a premium account logged off or crashed, they wouldn't be able to log in again until the high traffic time had passed and the rules were relaxed once more.
However, that seems to have never been implemented. Thank you, I couldn't remember exactly what was said.

From: Jake Black I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid. From: Solomon Devoix That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...
...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

From: Damien Walworth 60,000 users? Wow!! I bet Google never have that many users at any one time, no wonder SL got borked. I never realised there were that many people on the Interweb. That's 60,000 interactive client/server sessions going. Not 60,000 database queries. There's a bit of difference.

From: Amy Stork That's just plain daft. Plenty of us premiums can't log in either I was responding to the person that suggested that when the grid numbers hits a certain level all non paying account residents should be kicked off one by one. I dont think that is fair! As for you paying a monthly fee to use sl, you have many beneifits that us non paying residents dont have, chat support, ablility to purchase land, etc, this is what you are paying for not the right to be able to access SL on demand. I appreciate the fact the SL is a business and that you are the people that make LL money BUT if it wasnt for the non paying accounts buying all of your stuff, how many people would have premium accounts.....???? How many people would need then....???

From: Solomon Devoix So, as noted, from a business standpoint, LL should give some kind of perks or benefits to those who pay them. They do! 300L a week (depending on you age it may be more), The ability to own mainland, Better support.... From: LittleMe Jewell Times like this is when I really really wish we could do inventory maintenance when not logged in. I would even pay for that ability. I know! i could get so much done!

From: Brann Georgia Any idea how much I've paid directly to the Lindens just in uploading images? Every time I buy anything I'm helping someone pay their tier to the Lindens.
They make money from non-Premium members just as nicely as Premium ones. Ya I'm a non premium member too. But have spent god knows how much uploading textures over the last few weeks. Erm.. when I work it out about five quid! LL need more than people uploadaing a few textures I'm afraid.

From: Solomon Devoix WHO?!? Sin Skins. Why? Portia just posted it in the Classifieds....I'm normally not that keen on sales, but these skins somehow work so well with my shape that they are, in a sense, part of what makes my avatar look like "me". And thinking back to one year ago.....much much worse with only 30,000 people on line...

At least we're back onto normal nonsense. i would be surprised and dissapointed if LL discriminated against no-pays. I've been paying premium for over two years even though I have a private sim. Why? Because an excellent place we all love costs money to create and I think a few quid a quarter is worth the scrfice.
There is no discrimmination going on I reckon it's just the servers stuffed again

Don't want to be guilty of plugging merchandise as that would be a Sin, but since we can't log in... Check the classified forums, shopping.

It's been over an hour since the last blog post.
Either:
1) things are really FUBAR 2) someone/someones forgot to update the post 3) they don't care 4) all of the above

From: Kelly Kuiper No. The point is that LL is a business. If it doesn't make money, it does't survive, ok? So you treat the people who pay you money (and keep you in business) different to people who don't. Does that make sense? i understand that it is a business, but i dont think the answer to the problem is blaming Non-Pay account for all the problem within SL, i am glad you pay money for your account, good for you , heres a cookie. but sayin that non-pay account should be thrown to the back of the line for loggin just dont make sence to me on how it is going to fix the problems with SL. but i guess everyone is a tad upset with not be able to get online.

BTW, how can you call yourself a shopaholic if the very first thing you don't do is check shopping and new products?

From: Ang Gabardini Said to no one in particular.... I'd say if it weren't for the non-subscribers, there would be no need for subscribers. I know I don't pay a monthly fee but have spents WADS of L's on everthing from clothes to dances to you name it. I'm sure I'm not the only one. That would be assuming that premium accounts don't go shopping. I know I do,way too much. not that i agree with kicking anyone offline, but just wanted to point out the premium members shop too and not all premium members own buisnesses.

Actually, LL made a blog post a while ago saying they were going to start restricting logins to Premiums when the grid was having concurrency problems, but I don't believe they've ever done it.

From: Trish Semyorka Actually right before it went to hell they had just gone over 60k users. Personally I think the servers have been much better over the last few months than they were say in early 2007. At least now we only have weekly issues, instead of daily issues of this magnitude. Still it would be nice to log on and have some cartoon sex. Yeah right. I've watched Danielle's business go down the tubes. All down to the asset server issues every day this week. No doubt everyone else running a business in sl is experiencing exactly the same issue. Daily issues are here. We have had issues every day for the past 8 days.

From: Solomon Devoix In terms of income for LL, though, the bulk of that comes from tier fees, which can only come from premium users. So, as noted, from a business standpoint, LL should give some kind of perks or benefits to those who pay them. Um, not entirely true ..... plenty of non-premium folks rent or own land on private islands....and contribute greatly to those tiers....so you really have to look at the big picture. Paying a membership to LL doesn't necessarily mean you are putting in the most $$$.....the amount of commerce generated in world is phenominal and if you took away (even briefly) the non-paying gamers the cyber economy could potentially be hit very very hard. And I'm a premium account holder...so this isn't some kind of defense..... this is just economic observation.... from a business stand point....you don't opt to piss off ANY of your clients/customers....regardless of what they contribute. cause word of mouth can be as damaging as wild fire. IMHO lol
