60,000 users? Wow!! I bet Google never have that many users at any one time, no wonder SL got borked. I never realised there were that many people on the Interweb. Google doesn't try to update your search results 45 times per second. |

Here's an idea:
When the number of people online reaches a certain critical point, only residents with paid accounts would be able to log on, and that for every resident who logs on with a paid account, there will be one non-paying resident that is automatically logged off.... It doesn't make sense that there are non-paying residents in-world right now, but I'm unable to log on.... |

I like what it says when you try and log on: Dispite our best efforts, something has gone wrong.... Atleast we're being updated. it's better than just not knowing IMO only. And last I saw, 32, 000 online. Numbers are declining. Wonder how low it will go. |

Hmmmm
I always check the blog before I log in....but I just now opened my SL RC viewer start up to see another update is available....so I check the blog (before trying to log in, decided it's always a good idea to check blog multiple times a day lol) and there's nothing about an RC update.....but there IS something about log-ins being disabled.....looks like there's gonna be a blurb pretty soon about a new RC update folks..... *sigh* and just when I was gonna tackle learning particle scripts.....skins? what' skins? LOL |

And I do have to say that things have been better, this use to happen all the time. |

Atleast we're being updated. it's better than just not knowing IMO only. Too right. There's a technical probem that will be sorted. I've seen it happen so many times. SL is a pletform/world whatever that cannot be compared with any other. The very fact that it exists is pretty amazing. The fact that it goes down for a few hours every so often is... well, inevitable I guess. Chill. It'll be OK in a few hours. Jeez it's not like you're logged out of real life is it? |

Have been in SL since 2004, and i can tell you, I've seen a lot worse. There used to be hours and days we could not get in. We couldn't even TP to places, you had to TP to a spot close to the sim you wanted to be in and fly to the red wand in the distance.
SL has come along way baby, i used to writhe and moan when this happened. Curse the gods who's name started with Philip, but now i know, this is a very complicated entertainment venue...that's constantly being tweaked, and they have some great professionals now, something that was sorely missing in the olden days. So sit tight, wait for this storm to pass, so when you do buy that $99 skin, you will actually get it, and maybe even get to keep it longer than one log on... Is the pizza here yet?? |

It is us 'non paying residents' who proberly buy the majority of the item for sales from premium account residents who own shops, land, etc, so kicking us off would not help. By us purchasing item for sales it helps others invest in sl and help it grow into the global business and social networking site that it is today. okay with it faults like now I know that it is annoying but I think that if there were more people with your attiude, SL would stay in the dark ages! |

No. The point is that LL is a business. If it doesn't make money, it does't survive, ok? So you treat the people who pay you money (and keep you in business) different to people who don't. Does that make sense? |

The blog post referenced previously in this thread didn't say anything about kicking unpaid accounts offline during times of max logins; it said that logins would be restricted to premium accounts, and that if someone who was not a premium account logged off or crashed, they wouldn't be able to log in again until the high traffic time had passed and the rules were relaxed once more.
However, that seems to have never been implemented. _____________________
I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid. That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry... ...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning. |

Said to no one in particular....
I'd say if it weren't for the non-subscribers, there would be no need for subscribers. I know I don't pay a monthly fee but have spents WADS of L's on everthing from clothes to dances to you name it. I'm sure I'm not the only one. |

SL is for everyone, and i am quite sure everyone was at one time a non-paying account, or here for a freebie until you got so addicted you needed some land, and its spiraled out of control from there. Everyone contributes in their own way, paying or not, and really the few minutes or hours this thing is off, isn't worth this type of ugly prejudice.

Sorry Nyles, I dont agree.
I was premium until 2 days ago... i think the non-paying residents have just as much right to be here as the premium ones. Just because they spend that ten dollars on items instead of an account upgrade doesnt mean they are somehow inferior. Otherwise, all the land/shop owners who are premium will be asking where the hell all the customers have gone.... _____________________

In terms of income for LL, though, the bulk of that comes from tier fees, which can only come from premium users. So, as noted, from a business standpoint, LL should give some kind of perks or benefits to those who pay them.
Then again, the majority of LL's decisions and policies seem to be counter to what good business practices are anyway, so we shouldn't be surprised by the way they treat premium account holders, either. _____________________

No. The point is that LL is a business. I Any idea how much I've paid directly to the Lindens just in uploading images? Every time I buy anything I'm helping someone pay their tier to the Lindens. They make money from non-Premium members just as nicely as Premium ones. _____________________

Actually LL did at one point (maybe still does) have a plan/rule that when things got rough they would stop unpaid account login first. I can think of only once it was actually used and I dont remember them kicking unpaid accounts offline. Just not letting them login till the issue was resolved.
