Are all the SL roads going to be turned into parks?

Well the most of the SL roads are completely useless because of no scripts and no build. I'm sure allowing building with a 1 minute auto return is not going to damage anything...

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

And if not, why not? They are completely empty and useless and rather ugly. Why not full of trees and lakes and bands? I nominate this as the best idea for 2008. Who's in favour?

becasue, i like to go "highway running" you might say and breath in the many nice thigns sl has to offer, infact thats how i met alot of my sl freinds

but if you mean somthing else then ill just shut up now

Or, take to the skies in a hot air balloon—a great, peaceful way to follow roads and explore SL. Plus, people love seeing you fly by in the balloon. It's a wonderful option to enjoy the metaverse and meet others...

i live in isabella (top of the northern continent) thru which a linden road runs ... tho, as i assumed all linden roads are, it's not paved.

anyway, the other day i dragged my v-max motorcycle out of inventory and drove onto the road southwest. imagine my surprise after a while when the unpaved road turned into a double level "highway". well, it was actually a stone construction .. with a smooth top, open level ... and a smooth bottom, enclosed one.

sadly, it ended after 8 or 10 sims ... and i only ran over 2 pedestrians ... but it did feed into a paved/cobblestone road which i followed further south ... swung west and up the coast back to my home.

i found may high level bridges over river canyons, etc. i even went past at least 2 businesses i had previously frequented via TP. it was nice to actually PLACE these stores in sl.

i can't wait to try exploring the road as it goes east from me. it's a totally different way to see sl ... giving more of a sense of the actual sl world .. rather than a set of disconnected TP destinations.

btw... i left property lines viewable and kept an eye on my position within sims. by slowing down at sim crossings, i managed the entire trip with only once losing the bike.

Am I missing something? First people complain about the speed and stability of SL and then they want road (that need to be rendered thereby slowing SL down) and Wind Light (that needs to be rendered thereby slowing SL down). Which do people want? Stability or fluff? Personally I would like to see a client that does not crash as often and servers (asset servers specifically) that are most stable.

"Vehicle" always means a scripted object that has to be rezzed and sat upon. Otherwise it's an attachment with an AO (and just cosmetics). My bicycle for example is a real vehicle.

I found a winged horse, a pig, and a dolphin in a freebie folder the other day that I can also rez and then ride, so even animals can come in the rez and ride instead of just wear and move. :)

Wait, the dolphin wasn't under my control.

Ok, a winged horse and a pig.

See this issue in JIRA. It is a proposal to start a Linden-run, Resident-operated road building group.

Havok 4 will fix sim border crossings?

Nope, it won't fix rubber-banding. At least according to an old blog post i remeber reading but can't find anymore. There's just too much data to send between regions. I suppose we could hope for a smaller piece of rubber =/

Well not a HUGE support for the idea so far - but hey I just realise that I posted the suggestion at a time when all the europeans are in bed and mostly the Americans online... not casting nasturtiums but maybe converting roads into parks is a kinda European idea and a bit un-American?

Anyway they are EMPTY for goodness sake! If you want to get anywhere you TP or fly. Even TP to the next room and fly to the next floor. In time all SL avatars will evolve away from having legs. We already evolved away from wheels. They are gone, finshed, dead.

Lets line the roads with trees, that solves the ad problem in another thread. Lovely for the walkers. Reserve a few special ones for the vroom-vroom crowd - everybody's happy, no?

Let's hear it from Europe! (And Korea, of course. Seoul is the greatest).

Yay Europe! and please include Greenland!
