I haven't run across anything unexpected in adult stuff, in fact in some clubs I have seen it curtailed, like people being asked to not show their cocks or be naked in certain areas, etc, various standards.

Maybe some people might think some ways of dressing when out shopping are adult, but even that seems considered by most.

From: Viciously Llewellyn

When I politely asked this if they could do it in IM, I was basically called a prude and told to f-off.

I can understand them wanting to keep it out of IM so as to be able to be communal, but your so not a prude for asking that of them!

I wonder about this, conversations floating around in mature, how can people calm that some, can builds block the distance text shows for at all?

My land is PG. You can be a pretty tolerant person, and still have the expectation that when you buy PG land, you won't have to listen to people having sex with corpses as part of your SL experience.

I thought about teaching them to use the group IM, but really feel that someone that has a huge lot and chooses to put their only structure absolutely on the property line of their only two neighbors, probably chose that location on purpose. I guess sucking blood out of someone's privates is more fun if people can hear you do it. ;-)

But there is nothing in these new rules that will prevent any of that from happening. You will still be able have a sex bathroom and porn in your house.

That's all fine and dandy . Let them do what they want behind closed doors/walls(the place I mentioned didn't have walls and open for all to see) But the fact will remain. they will not be able to Put in their land title " Forced Sex Bath house" And descriptions pertaining to rape and forced sex and other adult content (for search listing). Which will hinder their ability to run the public sex place unless on adult Rated land :)
And that's their goal

I do not abuse the search system with sexually explicit keywords or descriptions, it is a roleplaying community and most of the activity is not even adult. I followed the community standards, but have been lumped in with those that did violate it and am now being punished for LL not enforcing their own rules. Now we have something draconian to take its place.

That's how life has been since I was born into this Real-world 41 years ago and life is still the same no matter where you go

50 bad apples will ruin it for the 1 good apple.

Most of the activity, not all or part? Sounds like a portion of it is Adult activity to me
Why would you consider it punishment?

There are many different storylines going on by different players. Any adult roleplay happening is behind walls and closed doors no different than any unlisted place.

Even though we are listed, I can confidently say our island gets less foot traffic from random explorers than the mainland does and whats inside is no different than what most private residences have as far as adult content is concerned.

I feel punished because they have left absolutly no room for those of us that are not running the ultra hardcore raunch-fests to continue to keep our current mature status. We are now just as bad as the worst in SL and must be hidden away.

I can understand that to a point.. But losing foot traffic why? Because wanting to be labeled in all search categories even tho Mature still? the way I see it they are allowing you to keep your mature status and will show when searching for both PG and mature.. If your content has sex or any adult type activity then it must be filtered...
They have to work it the best they can for all sides ..
The system is not even fully in affect. Why not give the system time to work
And soon they will enable the viewer to be able to filter out PG content.. I don't consider that punishment and the fact we will lose foot traffic from those individuals.. (Me thinks the majority of people do not want the adult content)
It could very well slow down our traffic as well.. I think everyone needs to give the system a chance before making a final judgment

I do see that as punishment, I've tested this in the release candidate viewer, it's a pile of pants.

There are no effective walls in second life. There are only prims, and they rez in effectively random order and don't prevent downloading into your cache or (inadvertent or deliberate) camera views. It doesn't matter what walls you put up, people are still going to see your porn. Those houses around you, those nice whitebread houses, in some places as many as half of them have naughty sexballs and naughty pictures in them, and they will still be there after all the advertised public sex places have moved to Ursula, and newbies are still going to teleport accidentally into them.

:p Ok....reading the other thread by Mimika got me thinking......

How many of us in here (I know I can't get a fair representation of SL residents, but just for curiosity sake) have ACCIDENTALLY found adult content that you didn't want to find...or see....or otherwise be exposed to?

.....

I don't think that LL's problem is primarily people wandering into situations that make them uncomfortable or offended.

The biggie is Search results.
Search for something totally PG and get presented with EXTREME!!

Do it now. Try "Furniture"
1. The website search / All Search has been sanitised to some extent by word-filtering. The sixth listing on page.1 slipped through the net. That's M at the very least.
2. In-world Places Search is a total zoo. Even with Mature unchecked it's in-your-face-sex.

Places search could be improved by policing the parcel flagging.
However, it's clear from examples raised in various discussions that filtering Search by word lists is fraught with 'unpredictability'.

Search is where the Accidents mainly happen.
The "millions of potential new users" ( <- Data Linden quote) don't want to be presented with sexy stuff when they go searching for non-sexy stuff.

So you cammed over and saw RL bondage photos in your neighbors house...

this will not change

So a naked noob humped you at an info-hub with his freenis out...

this will not change

So you can TP into a pile of dots and be surprised by sexual content...

this will not change

So you have a tasteless, noise spamming, full bright monstrosity in the parcel next door...

this will not change

What's changing? Well, search I suppose... but couldn't that have been fixed by putting some effort into improving how it currently works? If you don't want to see sex in search, then unchecking the mature checkbox should do it. It's an enforcement issue.

Most adult content is quartered off, high in the sky or walled off and not accessible unless you blatantly ignore warnings and want to see the content.

So perhaps the blatant, noisy, fullbright sex clubs next to your PG parcel will disappear... but this is all a bit like shooting a frog with an elephant gun.

In the case of results for "Furniture" in Places search as in my post above, this is an example of an enforcement issue.
However, it's more complex than that.

For "predictability" to work, someone would search and see only results that conformed with the desired predictability.
They search for "bed" and say in All Seardh, they get a list of places that have beds flagged as PG items.
They TP to the place and find that it's a Mature parcel with sexbeds beside PG beds, and maybe a bunch of other Mature stuff too.

This means that for "predictability" to work, there has to be a geographical split between PG and Mature in the same way as the AO/non-AO is planned to be geographically split.
For merchants and service providers who have mixed offerings, this has to mean having separate parcels in separated "predictability" continents/islands for separate categories of offerings - if they want to cover all of the potential market.

If there were that separation, and Search used the parcel flagging as a way of filtering the results, then we get "predictability". There would be no need to attempt the craziness of filtering by words or by individual item flagging.
The "predictability" would depend only on effective policing of content-type v location.

Gees Sling.....that is all entirely true.....but doesn't it seem oh so tedius and tiring of a pursuit for LL? I mean seriously....This is the PC monster rearing it's oh so sensitive whiney head.......

When did grown adults become such little children? When did we lose our grip on accepting base human nature? Seriously.....this is so laughable. Adult content offends.....really? I just don't get it....I really don't. I could give a rats hairy ass who's doing what in SL and how many seedy joints they frequent or sex toys they have stashed in their homes.......and if I see it in search......and I get offended......wtf cave have I been living in.

I know...I know....I'm being harsh.....and my intention is not to offend....I just think the whole PC issue has got way out of control over the years.....to the point where society is expected to bend over backwards to avoid the mere chance of offending someone on ANY level......be it race or religeon or sexuality or whatEVER. Man we are wound up tight.

There was a time when I was wound a little tighter too.....and it sucked.....omg how stupid.....such a waste of time and energy and experience that could have otherwise been positive. I see the world so much differently now and I have tolorence.....And it's really frustrating watching LL jump through hoops to try and please the sensitive masses. They're gonna screw themselves right out of a good thing if they're not careful.

This is going to get very silly unless LL show some backbone. If I walk into my local newsagent I can buy newspapers, comics or top shelf material. They don't need a store in a different location for each type of item.

The local shopping centre offers everything from kids toys to adult toys in different stores, there's alcohol, there's lingerie. Trying to tie everything to the maturity level of the land is silly, PG should be fine on mature land.

The only "accidental" adult content I've seen has been at places like the (PG rated!) official Linden Welcome Areas.

It usually comes in the form of a guy, with a rampant member sticking through his pants, who saunters up to me and solicits sex. LL's new policies won't do a thing to stop this sort of annoyance.

I have, on very rare occasions, teleported into something that was a lot rougher or more extreme than I like. But on these occasions, I've had only myself and my insatiable curiosity to blame. It was not "accidental", I chose to go there knowing that the place had adult content...I was just surprised by HOW adult it was.

I don't think you are harsh, but I do think you are way off base.

There is really no indication at all that this has anything to do with political correctness. None at all!

The Lindens themselves have indicated that attracting business interests is part of this. A business is going to have a good idea what sort of place they are looking for, when they are putting their dollars in the tiller. This isn't political correctness ... it's their dollar, they can put it wherever they choose.

The second thing they have said, the thing that gets roundly thrashed on this forum, is "predictable experience." Like it or not, there is something to that, and again it has nothing to do with political correctness.

Adult content folks have said time and time again that they want the right to do whatever they want on their land, and that people that don't want to see it, can stay out. I actually agree with them. But, that does ignore chat distance, which means they are no longer doing what they want on their land, they are also doing it on someone elses. Another consideration - if you live next to a sex club for example, there will certainly come a day when people from the club are having at it in your house, or on your lawn. So again, they are no longer doing it in the privacy of their own home ... they are doing it in someone elses. Lastly, there is a percentage of "lifestylers" (I hate using a term like that, but have none better) that have a clear agenda of a)shocking the masses, b)proving their lifestyle is mainstream, c)getting enjoyment by voyourism. It is a small percentage, but a very "in your face" group. They do not stay in their land ... that isn't the point for them.

If adult content people have the right to enjoy their brand on Second Life on their one land, don't others have the same right to have their brand of Second Life on their own land?

Can any adult content person honestly say they have ever come in contact with organized political correctness, while participating, serching for, or building adult content?

I'm not an "adult content folks". I don't have any "adult content" on my land, but I still want the *right* to do what I want on my land. And that's going to be *stopped* unless I spend hundreds of dollars to move to Ursula at landgrabber prices, because they won't define what's private and what's public and stick by those definitions, and they won't define what's adult content or not and stick by THOSE definitions.

If they just said "you have to get a majority of the owners on mature mainland sims to get them designated adult", or implement SVC-205 and say that anything in a restricted-access privacy parcel is private, or something similar... they'd cut the legs right out from under the opposition.

Yeah, but they clearly aren't going to do that Argent. You know I agree with you on that point, I've posted it several times ... they should allow anyone that wants to swap, the ability to do so. Hell, I think since they will have so much empty land, they should allow open land swapping for PG landholders also, because I REALLY believe the move to G-Rated PG land is coming soon. They didn't spend all that time defining it, to not implement it some day.

SO ... buy some porn already. ;) Didn't you say you had some decapitation stuff on your land? Buy some decapitation shuff and advertise BJ's from the heads ... or whatever.

You know very well that you can get yourself moved if you really want to ... or correct me if I'm wrong on that.

The new policy does very little to address any of this. So the sex club won't be there but your neighbours could be SL swingers and be at it night and day. The same issues apply with chat distance. Those who don't want to do it on their own land still won't be doing it on their own land.

So you DO understand why people who aren't "I AM ADULT CONTENT" in your face might have a problem with all this mess, then. I wasn't sure.

Blondin's made comments that imply "porning up your land" isn't necessarily going to have the desired effect. They have an idea of how much they expect to move, and I'm pretty confident that if everyone "porns up" they'll just limit the offer to long running hard core sex businesses... to keep the demand below "2-4%".

Oh, I completely agree with you. I think the new policy is poorly thought out, and the implemetation strategy, has none.

My only point was that I thing calling this a PC issue, is way off base. I don't think this has anything to do with political correctness or religious groups.
