Ok....reading the other thread by Mimika got me thinking...... How many of us in here (I know I can't get a fair representation of SL residents, but just for curiosity sake) have ACCIDENTALLY found adult content that you didn't want to find...or see....or otherwise be exposed to? I'm asking this because of the 'predictability' statement that kept coming up with LL's comments on the adult content changes. The first thing I thought of was......wtf? Everything that is adult related in SL pretty much announces itself in very clear terms. And aside from the occasional sexy poster in a club.....I've never ACCIDENTALLY been exposed to adult content. If I see it.....I knew dam it well it was there to begin with. So....this predictability thing.......it just kinda makes me laugh. It's not that difficult to avoid adult content in SL. I do it. I don't get involved in any of it any more......the only exception would be visiting an art gallery that might display erotic pics.....or being in a shopping plaza that has a few adult content stores......but I don't browse them, so I really could care less. And certainly the very extreme AC in SL is limited to areas that advertise it quite clearly. So, if one sees it in search....big friggin deal.....don't go there. Just like ya don't watch the gross Reality shows on TV when yer flippen channels. That 2 second glimpse isn't going scar you for life. It's got me thinking about censorship in general....and how we just take it so friggin far in this country (sorry America, you're my country and I love you...but you're a effing prudish freak when it comes to sexuality) In our day to day lives (which, might I remind LL and everyone else, SL serves to mimic on many levels) we might be potentially exposed.....however briefly, to adult content. It's in movie previews......or while we flip the channels.....or on magazine wracks.....or even in the malls. It's certainly in many of the down town areas in this country. And, we pretty much are able not to be over taken by it. Though I KNOW there are those who would prefer it be wiped off the map completely so they NEVER have to run the risk of a nipple sighting. I guess what I'm saying is this has the potential (I believe) to get out of hand. Cebsorship is a mine field issue and LL's walking through it seemingly with an air of oblivion. To what......please the potential business clientel? Hahah!! Yup.....LL runs a business and they are thinking way ahead to the global implicatuions of SL being used as a biz format. It's already been introduced and used to some degree.....and my bet is that LL sees that's where the $$$ is. Predictability.......that's too tidy a word here. It's already predictable.....if you can read, you can predict your adult content experience in SL easily enough. But I'm not buying their logic.......or else they are extremely uptight and niave......but naaah, this is a Cali company....that can't be it. LOL

There is only one reason for LL's "adult" action, and it's nothing to do with what they say. It's sole intention is to drive me out. For a little while, I've been looking at my uncertain furture concerning the upcoming adult rules, not knowing for certain whether or not I'll be required to move, and I've been looking at my uncertain future concerning the upcoming limitation on script memory, not know wheether or not I'll even be able to display (and sell) all the items that I currently display, and I've genuinely been thinking, "What's the point?".
What's the point in developing anything, knowing that it may have a very limited lifespan. What's the point in creating more stuff, not knowing if it will fit into the script memory limitations. What's the point in doing anything constructive, such as seeking to improve search rankings, when much of this world may collapse in the near future - for me.
Alright, that's not the reason that LL is making the adult changes, but the rest of it perfectly true for me.
To answer your question, I don't believe that I've ever accidentally stumbled upon adult stuff, with perhaps one exception - the occasional *very* revealing photograph, displayed very large and out in the open, but the one I'm thinking of has gone now.

One the one hand I think this plan is straight up ridiculous on the other hand I pretty regularly bump into adult content when I'm not looking for it.
On my own residential sims I occasionaly run into some BDSM couple in the middle of some roleplay or another.
Or flying around I'll see some crazy sex club pop up in my way or giant prim penises on the horizon.
Truth is it happens pretty often, probably every day.

Yeah.....that's what bothers me about all this. I don't have an adult content island, unless two of my mom's nude paintings qualify......and as far as I'm concerned they don't, as they are very non-revealing (and unfinished actually) pastel works. But the implications of what LL is doing are screamingly clear in Phil's words. And that's just a shame. So much of SL's appeal is focused on the 'your world, your imganination' philosophy and yet, here comes the noose to strangle the imagination right out of a huge portion of it's residents. I'm a pretty liberal minded individual. I don't have any problem with what others are doing with their SL experience, in fact I think it's fantastic that SL provides this venue for people to explore such inner realms of their creative psyche. And further more, it's dam popular at that! My base human nature is just as animal as the next persons and I'm not in the least bit afraid of it.......I'm not afraid of peeking into the darker depths and seeing what's lurking ..... hell I'm a writer by default...I could spin a tale that makes any of the AC in SL look like a pre-school costume party in comparison. Doesn't mean I'm some kind of drooling psychopath.......doesn't even mean I partake on any level. But.....I'm not afraid of my imagination....or anyone elses......and I worry that LL is losing sight of that ideal by 'parenting' the grid.

I don't really see any in public, but then consider where I hang out.
Once I saw a male part brazenly exposed in old Caledon, but there was a statue of David attached right to it.
Does that count?

Regular (1.22) viewer, mature unchecked, search in the places tab for "jobs", and the first result is FREE SEX ORGY ROOM DANCE CLUB. The incidence of this kind of thing went wayyyy down recently after the people understood that LL really means it this time, but it's a little late.
A few weeks ago an alt I made got an unsolicited TP request within her first half hour, "join me in [innocuous-sounding region name]". Of course I wasn't brand new and knew how to look it up, but I still followed after seeing it was one of those orgy places, and the requester turned out to be a bot on a pose ball.
So yeah, like LL's attempt at a solution or not, there has been a genuine first impressions problem there.

Milla, Surprises happened to me few times, but I use to reade the title and decription of the place that I'm going before hit the 'teleport' button when searching. It seems that LL is looking for people that don't use to do this. When walking, I don't go inside a 'strip club' if it is not what I'm looking for, don't go inside others houses unless invited. So, SL is very predicable inworld to me. The biggest surprises were griefing attacks, normally in PG regions; and some changings in LL's politics like this one. And I do would be glad if SL became more predictable in this aspects... On the censorship..

Truth is it happens pretty often, probably every day. You know....I get the distinct impression that, that's more of a mainland problem. I'm on a homestead myself.....and the places I explore, by and large, are all created in private regions, other homesteads.......and I never see any of that.....unless I actively hit TP and check out an area that I know has AC. Case in point......I was recently looking for a cool new skin......I TP'd to a shop just outside a nightclub that was obviously a vampire/sex themed place. No big deal.....the skin shop wasn't offensive (neither was the club, to me, actually) but upon further investigating I saw a photo contest sign.....and being the obsessive shutter-bug that I am......I wanted to partake. The catch was....I had to become a member of the club.....LOL So.....I joined....what the hell......in the interest of creative photography, I had no problem with that. The photo had to be taken on that sim.....so I explored it. Noone was even there.....but I wandered the area....checked out the seedy club which was fantastic in it's design. But.....I don't spend too much time in any mainland regions, unless there's a shop I frequent or another area I know ell....... but over all.....this accidental adult content idea came to me because it just doesn't happen to me. Maybe LL needs to just focus on zoning rules, rather then totally separating AC. Perhaps, creating a smattering of commercial districs with a variety of themes would allow more flexibility among mainland residents. For example.....would it be so bad to devided a commercial district from a quiet residentail one by allowing a good 30 meters or so of open green, hilly terrain and a nice row of concealing trees.....so residents were not smacked in the face by unwanted visuals from the commercial district? I don't know.....it's just a thought. Maybe if the mainland was designed more like a typical city map.....the seedy sections would be in an obvious down town area and folks would know where not to go, if they so chose. I don't know.......but boy would I love the opportunity to try and design a map that both contained AC and allowed freedom of choice for all residents.

Well, I think a lot of it has to do with selling their platform to Companies in RL. The content needs to be safe for work environment.. And they are taking steps to provide such safe content .. I run into accidental content through search all the time. I also ran Club on mainland once and was Non mature. But next to my place some guy builds a bathroom sex house and puts up prims with a picture of a guy with his pecker on. (wouldn't want to send my employees into that environment) Also people filtering over from there to my place all sexed out. Even one couple having sex on my piano If they do not take steps to properly filter and give the residents the tools to filter the content. It makes a hard sell. I work with some real life companies and have been trying to get them to come to SL Their main complaint is the vast amount of sexual content put in their faces. This is holding them back. And not spending money in Second life or buying the platform. There are good reasons they are doing it. I don't think it is an out right attack on Adult content.. But of course those being affected by it would think different.. Obviously I am not apposed to the changes since I have ran PG places since 2006 and all have become extremely popular. All my guests thank me for creating a save place for them to attend and we do a great job on keeping it clean .. But then again here comes some noob with his pecker on all nude thinking he is awesome with his little prim wonder. Walking up to girls as they all tell him to put his clothes on and remove his little toy wonder. And he refuses to and tells everyone to Fu@k off. Way to go adult. Nice display Accidental or intentional adult content griefing? happens every day damn near.

Truthfully, when I first started, it did happen a lot. I would randomly TP somewhere or go to various places I found in search, not realizing some of the stuff that can go on in a Mature area. I think many of us forget what our first few months here were like.

So yeah, like LL's attempt at a solution or not, there has been a genuine first impressions problem there. Good points Viktoria. The search issue, see as a way of censoring by individuals. What Imean is.....if one is searching....and can read.....then one wont accidentally teleport to an area that is spewing sex orgy spanking party pose ball explatives in the description. To me, that's fine....that's what search is meant to do......allow us to look, and choose..... And yes, I would agree that search needs to be fine tuned....and a Job post in classifieds ought to be just that, a job listing. As for the invite from a bot.......well, there's another issue entirely....bots. That's pretty dam obnoxious, having a bot zero in on new avatars and send out invites to orgy clubs. That's what LL should be cracking the whip on, not the whole of AC.

When I try to find jeans, I find jeans. When I try to find shoes, I find shoes. When I try to find sex, I find sex. I guess things work out that way. (^_^) If anything, the closes to accidental findings usually goes something like this: Someone: Cute backpack Immy! Me: Thankies. (^_^)y Someone: Where did you get it? Me: A friend gave it to me. =^-^= Someone: It's really cute.... Someone: Uh... Someone: What's in his mouth? Me: Nehehehehe =^-^= (^_^)y

As for answering your question, I haven't come across the actual content by accident as much as the wording/description in search.

(Apparantly being in a mature region means you in no way have to display maturity? Funny how that works for some--but I digress.) Other than the actions of immature people like that, and the sights provided by the forgetful (who forgot to detach..items or wear clothing), I pretty much just encounter the same amount of "adult" material as I would in any mall/on daytime tv. Like others I look at region/parcel descriptions. Sure, "Oops" will happen, but then the escape route is merely ctrl+shift+h away.

I must admit that most of my playing lately has been at another place. So this adult content thing has not been much of a concern for me. And since I'm more or less disinterested I can see a reason why LL is doing what they are doing. That reason revolves around dropping the adult only restriction to the main grid.....which, due to LL's lack of placing any real meat in their policies regarding that "rule", is entirely of their own making. But that's another story that has been hashed out repeatedly here in the forums. It makes sense if LL has the intention of opening the main grid to minors. To protect themselves as best they can all "adult content" and it's related activities has to be put somewhere that attempts to restrict entrance to adults only....how they intend to enforce that any better than they have been able to enforce the adult only restrictions to the main grid is a mystery to me. But, it appears to be an attempt on their part to do just that. It's all about children being exposed to adult content....children that should not be here in the first place. It's a shame we, as adults, have to suffer from LL's lack of insight on the policies they developed long ago concerning access to SL's main grid. That's the way it is. That's the way it will remain for the foreseeable future. That's why I found a place that has much of the same posibilities as SL without the wishy washy ToS. Oh and BTW, I too, have almost never accidently stumbled upon adult content in SL. It's pretty clear in search that the location is adult content related when in the discription it says "free sex dungeon".

It happened to me a lot as a new player. My very first experience was looking for a place to camp...I tp'd to a dance camp (not poles or anything just outside) and earned a few L's, got bored and wandered inside to look around. I looked around at some of the pose things, and at the pictures on the walls (and they were rl pics, not avs on pose balls) and said WTF and pretty much quit SL on the spot. On vent later talking to a guildmate who has been in SL since '04 (and the person who got me to come in the first place) I was LoL it's for pervs...she laughed and told me there is more to SL, I just needed to look past stuff like that. I came back and I'm glad I did but pretty much I almost didn't.
Fast forward several months later, and my landlady came by while I was working on some clothing in PSP...she was really interested so I showed her stuff on XSSL, then logged in (My av was safely at home) to show her what the clothes looked like in SL. She then asked for the URL to SL and I was like OH NO....how am I going to explain this...
So I am really aware of how a new player sees SL, and how running smack dab into some of these things by accident can cause people to say whoa...I really don't want any part of this.

From: Milla Alexandre Ok....reading the other thread by Mimika got me thinking...... How many of us in here (I know I can't get a fair representation of SL residents, but just for curiosity sake) have ACCIDENTALLY found adult content that you didn't want to find...or see....or otherwise be exposed to? On the Mainland (back when I actually had land on the Mainland), it was a nearly daily occurrence. For instance, I had a fairly large plot for my 'residence/workshop', and to keep my fps nice and smooth I built a nice little skybox where I spent the majority of my time in-world. It seemed like a fairly nice 'neighborhood', with the neighboring sim seemingly devoted to residential rental property, etc. But I used to get the most bizarre visitors... Lots of guys with visible primdongs would land in my skybox and start poking around all my stuff. Totally unwanted. I could recount the stories, but suffice it to say that the average visitor was totally unwelcome, yet as we all know, banlines are socially discouraged, so... Then, a 'strip club' opened up next door. Okay, fine, whatever. I don't want to see that kind of garbage, and I can't for the life of me understand the appeal of a virtual stripclub when there's no dearth of real strip clubs in RL, but I can ignore that. Still, it was not my choice to be situated next to such a place, and I would have certainly relocated instantly had land not been in constant shortage and insanely high prices at that time. One day I logged in to find a new skybox within my line of sight, and all kinds of shouting objects and people that were broadcasting things I simply didn't care to hear, so I cammed over to see what was up. I was quite shocked to find hundreds of RL photos of bondage, child porn (both real and simulated), and a fair amount of rape play. With the exception of the child porn, I couldn't care less what the other people were doing, but the question is how often we've been inadvertently and/or unwantingly exposed to adult content, and this definitely qualifies. I later noticed when playing around with the (then libsecondlife) cache viewer, that I had illegal pornography (the real child porn, as opposed to the simulated stuff) stored on my hard drive, simply because Second Life downloaded it from that skybox because it was 'in visual range' even though I didn't intentionally view it and it was occluded by walls. I know that there are technical reasons that it was on my machine that could be explained, but that was simply unacceptable. That was the last straw, and I pretty much gave up Mainland land forever at that point. I was there first, I did not choose to have such 'neighbors'. Even quite recently, I was at a Mall where I rent a shop, and where the product most nearly adult in nature are photo-realistic skins. No big deal, and certainly not a place I expect to find adult material. I had not in the two years I've had a shop there ever seen any truly adult material, until a couple weeks ago, when I TP'd in to tweak the inventory in a vendor. At that point, while things were still rezzing, I caught a glimpse of something that I don't care to ever see again, and which would certainly get the owner banned from SL altogether. It was not normally visible, but when you get things rezzing in a random order, some things which were not meant to be visible can become so for a brief period of time. I'd call that an accidental and unwanted exposure in every sense of the word, however brief it was. I could list literally hundreds of other examples, but this post is already five times longer than I wanted it to be. Suffice it to say that for someone who has absolutely *zero* interest in adult content, I've seen quite a bit more than enough in Second Life, with the vast majority of that being accidental and/or incidental. To each their own, I have nothing against adult content whatsoever (so long as it is legal), but I also do not have any interest in seeing it when I did not have any expectation of doing so. I rather like the idea that I might be able to frequent PG areas with the expectation that they really are PG, yet have the freedom of choice to visit areas that are not.

The bot thing is really a tangent, before those there were human tag teams doing the exact same thing, along with the landmark spammers etc. So it makes a lot of sense that the viewer will start showing "hey, this place might be a little off from what you've seen so far, you sure you want that?" It's easy to say "well send an AR" but the targeted avatars are exactly the people who are still learning about all that stuff.

It's all about appearances and plausible deniability.
There is not way that they can pervent someone from rezzing the wrong kind of stuff in areas that are claimed to facilitate "predictability". If it arises then they can zap the content and the perp in the same way that they would zap a griefer.
No way were they allowing it. Why, it's specifically in the TOS that the perp should not have rezzed that kind of content.
