OMG Brenda!! I'm sure you just offended many good people (american indians and asian indians) with that insensitive remark. I grew up in Wyoming and even way back in the 1960's most people would have seen your comment as incredibly insensitive. I wish that most angelos that I have met were as good, honest and decent as the Indians I have known, from both continents. Yeah Arch you misunderstood. Heck Brenda has a Girlfriend of Indian(cherokee) Heritage. My ancestors even took the US government to court, and WON! and were still forced off their land. |

This thread has cheered me up no end today.
For Alyx, I submit this link for a recently published book, which you may find amusing. The author was on BBC Radio 5's Simon Mayo show (podcast available I believe) talking about it. http://arts.independent.co.uk/books/features/article2786243.ece For my part, I submit; "Up Ginko Creek without a Linden!" This invokes not only a known bad place (the scam), but also the suspected outcome. It also has the lovely double meaning of LL not being prepared to help or be there. This I think meets the OP's criteria. Enjoy the weekend! |

I wish that most angelos that I have met were as good, honest and decent as the Indians I have known, from both continents. Brenda's remark was taken in the context of referring to peopel who have been scammed out of their property. I think her remark showed a great deal of sympathy for the indigenous people of North America. _____________________

Turning nouns into verbs is what we British do best. Would that activity be called "Gerunding" ? |

Would that activity be called "Gerunding" ? I think we've already established that it's called "verbing" ![]() _____________________

I bought what looked on the outside of the box to be rather attractive lingerie.
When I copied to inventory and wore it.... It turned out to be ruth-in-a-box and a section of wall attached to my right hand. I would say I got Ginkoed on that one. |

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Thank You. I'm glad someone got it. Yes in my opinion, the American Indian has suffered the ultimate Ginko'ing. Took me bit to get it truthfully myself. But kept thinking Native Indians, Aborginal peoples, slaves and their descendants of slaves really got ginko'ed in rl. |

In case anyone is seriously interested in what "verbing" really is: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~jlawler/aue/verbing.html Don't try wikipedia, they pretend zero-derivation is the same as conversion (which it isn't, says my school of linguistics... ) Although the entry on the null morpheme is interesting, if you're into dead languages....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Null_morpheme @Desmond: Oh, I've gone slumming as an urchin in several steampunk sims in my first weeks in SL....I've seen all those tortured...er...prims'n stuff....poor pixel-shoving blind mice...no, that was somewhere else.... ![]() @Brenda: I got the sarcasm, do I get a biplane now? No, that was somewhere else, too...I have a student whose father is Hopi and whose mother is german, does that count? ![]() _____________________
