Being a Dancer in SL

I'm not really sure if this is a stupid question but oh well i'm gonna ask anyway lol

Well i've been working as a dancer in a club for about 3 days now and i'm struggling you could say too attract attention too myself. I have a good avi and i'm friendly but yet i've not really had anyone come sit with me or if they do sit down it's for the girl next too me. I've not really made any tips either while working there and i've been doing it pretty non stop for the past two days. So i'm completely blind too what i'm doing wrong.

Is it because i'm new too the establishment that i'm being snubbed so too speak or am i just not good enough lol, it's making me wonder if i should get out now while i can.

Is the SL club scene going down?

Yes, it is, but still- what do you consider a "good avi" and are you talking to the customers and taking an interest in them?

I'm not sure it was ever "up".

Have you tried making stuff in Second Life? you might find that more fun/rewarding.

Hi Christalle, well i consider a good avi too have a good shape, clothes and skin. I'll try too upload a picture later too show you my avi.. i'm just working on it in Photoshop now. Yes i talk too the people coming in, i'm friendly i say hello, ask how they are, have they had a good day, ask if they'd like a seat etc but with not many results. I think my flirting skills might now be up to par lol.

Hi Ingrid, i've thought about that but i don't really think it's a good idea, one i'm in quite a new avi and there is that much already out there and my skills are not that great with Photoshop i don't really see the point too be honest. I think the system is saturated enough without me adding too it lol.

Hi Serena. I tried being a male dancer when i first came to SL and had the same results. Now, it's tougher for men of course... but i did expect something. I gave up after a week of making basically sympathy tips from people and got into djing. I have found i make more doing that at clubs than most of the dancers who have regulars. Also, i have found that the club you are at is as important as what you do. Maybe you just are at a club that isn't good for you.

If you need a few places, i can send you some contacts when I do see dancers making some decent money.

Hmm not very encouraging. If dancing is something u really want to do keep working at it, don't give up! Maybe its the club itself, maybe you just need more flirting experience but you're on the right track by asking. When I was dancing it was about the energy of the club for me. If it felt right I was liable to get into it more, thus making it more fun for the customers, HOPEFULLY meaning more tips. Keep checking out different venues and watch what the other dancers do, what they wear or don't wear lol, might give u some ideas.

Hi Konu, you could be right the club i'm working at is mostly filled with Escorts lol. I work at Platinum Escort Club because i'm still under 30 days old. It's a ok club and some of the other people working there are friendly but maybe a better club might help. I thought i would not get in another though with me being under 30 days old though i have experiance from dancing in a old avi but that was back a year or so ago lol.

emote, but don't be trashy (not saying that you are but sometimes some of the girls get a little carried away and in my opinion, that isn't sexy). Be creative instead

I was in a 'panty' contest the other day and wore a new set of lingerie I had just gotten. It was pretty, lacy, and not too revealing...and I had 3 different guys IM me to tell me my partner was a lucky man, and they thought I looked sexier than the girls in extremely...revealing I guess is the best way to say it...outfits. (Now, men being men, they might have IM'd every girl in the place saying the same thing hoping for some action, and I of course realize that...nothing against you guys but some of you get pretty predictable *lol*).

My point is though, that sometimes when it comes to making your avatar look appealing to the male animal, subtle is sweet

Being a new av, you also really might want to hop around and demo as many skins and hair as possible...not buy, but demo...so you can get a really good idea of what good skins and hair look like. Other than that, just keep on keeping on, eventually you will get to know people and fit in

And dance because you like it, not because you want to get rich...because you probably won't hehe

Probably the main thing is to keep the customers talking to you whether in open chat or im's. Learn to flirt with them.

Just out of curiosity, are those other girls making tips? If not, could it be that their friends are just TP'ing in to chat with them while they are working? If they aren't making tips, then I wouldn't worry that you are doing something wrong at all. As you spend more time there you will build a group of regulars and friends who take a seat near you when you are working and, hopefully, there will be some tippers in that crowd.

The advice about emoting and flirting is good. Being flirtatious but approachable is a good thing. Also, customize what you say to the avi's you are talking to, when you can, rather than saying the same thing every time someone new approaches you.


Also, looking at your picture, your avi is beautiful, but don't be afraid to play around with different looks, especially if that makes you stand out from the other dancers. If all the dancers look similar in your venue, you will have a hard time standing out.

Hi Ralektra, that's brilliant advice sweetie, i have noticed that some of the girls do come on a little too strong lol and i have tried too keep my emotes toned down so nothing explicite.
I can understand what you mean about subtle and i've generally been wearing jean shorts, with bras, underwear, skirts and tops etc.
I have about 3 different skins and a few hairs i picked up from Diversity and ETD my skins are from Piece of Candy and Redgrave. I generally wear the skin in my photo though everywhere i love that skin lol.
I don't just dance for the money lol, the money of course is nice lol. I like being around others and talking and too be very honest i'd have never have done this in RL so i want too do it in SL. Pole dancing has always facinated me lol.

Hi Damien, Flirting i'm learning it but it is a learning curve for me which is pretty embarrising. I've been with my partner in RL for about 5 years now since i was 17 so i never really went out on the pull too meet other guys lol so flirting is a big lerning curve lol. Hey if anyone can reccommend any classes that talk about flirting send em my way lol.

Hi Nimue, yes most of the other girls around me are making tips, some more than others of course but still tips are flowing in lol.
I'm working on my flirting skills like stated above lol and i believe i'm being friendly and approachable, i'll try also too customize how i talk, i'm looking into taking some RP classes see if they help me any.

I go out clubbing quite a lot and I occasionally give modest tips to dancers, hosts and DJs. At some clubs messages come up when someone gives a tip. I don't imagine many people make much money as dancers or hosts, just a lucky few. I got tipped L$ 100 by mistake the other day by someone who thought I was a club dancer. Luckily I correctly guessed he'd made a mistake and returned his money.

Perhaps I'm being cynical, but it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that some dancers have alts that they bring along to clubs to tip them, to get the ball rolling. So they might be tipping themselves in effect.
