Katt and Dusty are the same person?

If all that Dusty is for is the SL5B celebration, then I think they could be the same and it wouldn't matter even one bit.

It would seem there are Linden avatars made who are for specific purposes, nothing more, so Dusty is just a 'Don't bother Katt with SL5B things, when she's handling that she's Dusty'.

And as for the forums revamp thread bit..who cares?

Hell, who cares if Dusty and Katt are the same? It doesn't change or mean anything.

Dusty handles community liaison stuff for it, Burning Life, and the SL Day of Remembrance, amongst other stuff.

Alright, so basically celebration stuff, or events? Everything I said still stands in my eyes.

It does matter.

One real person can only do so much. By splitting the work up between several alts, LL gives the impression that there is more staff working these issues than there really is. The reality is/may be one overworked, underpaid person with two or three (or more) avatars/aliases.

No wonder we look at LL's nonresponsiveness and scratch our heads. There's only a skeleton crew over there, not the humming hive of activity we always pictured.

I love it. They use alts to pump up their own staffing numbers as well as total residents.

I personally think you're exaggerating it quite a bit.

One person can only do so much. True, definitely, but one person can do that same about be it one name or 50. Giving two 'smaller' projects, one with a different alias isn't like saying 'Hey you get to plug in every server here, and while you're doing that make me some coffee, a pizza, and 46 1/2 chicken wings'

Katt is 'Communications Manager'

Dusty (apparently) handles large events coordination for residents and Lindens alike.

To me, both of these are communication related, and the Dusty side is a much smaller project, more of an offshoot. So, it doesn't require as much attention. But if Katt is already getting so much information about X project, then she doesn't want even more about that little Y project.

So, a second avatar for organizational purposes.

This is all assuming, of course, that Katt and Dusty are the same.

This doesn't show any sort of lack of ability or lack of people, just shows an organizational need to keep things seperate.

I have an alt. My main account is for playing about, building, being with my Domina. My alt is for.. well..building, mostly. This isn't saying that I'm swamped, it's saying I have two accounts for different things.

No different, just Lindens are under more scrutiny because they're Lindens.

ETA:: I'm thinking I should just stay out of these things from now on. You guys quite obviously expect, and *want* to find LL to be doing things in a way with which you don't agree. I find them to be doing things well and organized and as needed. Our opinions obviously clash, and mine will never actually matter to you, so arguing the point seems moot.

I'll still post here for now, but maybe not so much in the future when it comes to actual serious discussion, since things are being taken almost purely as 'Well this can only mean this which is baaad'

I never got that impression; I guess from what I read, I figured that Katt is not necessarily a new-hire Linden. I figured that she got transferred from one dept to another, which might explain a new name for her Linden persona... dunno.

Please don't give up on us. I've been on your side of the fence lots of times, when it seemed to me that LL did something right, and people were howling for their heads.

You actually make a good point. Alts CAN be used to divide work up into "boxes", and there's nothing wrong with that. It just feels wrong, somehow, for LL to do that, and specifically introduce Katt Linden as a person, "the communications manager", and Dusty as a person, "the events manager"...if in fact they are the same person. I know, I know...it's not rational or even fair, considering that a lot of us do the same thing and think nothing of it. But that's how I feel.

See...your opinion DOES matter to us. To me, anyway. Even if I disagree with it.

The thing is, if they introduced one as being the other, then people would see one on and IM them about things they aren't there to deal with. To actually divide the work between accounts for different projects efficiently, they have to introduce them as seperate people.

I've been around long enough in online worlds to know that to be true. Dusty will be getting IM's about things he doesn't deal with anyway, and IM's that are meant for Katt's jobs would just add to it and cause more distraction.

We may never know if they're the same person, but if they are, I think that LL did this the right way.

Now, I don't know the story behind Magellan Linden, but it sounds like an av used just for some event thingy, where they're lost.. I don't know if that's true, but I'm going to use it as an example.

If word got out that say Magellan and Zero were one and the same, then people would IM Zero and ask where Magellan is, or what's happened, and so on so forth. It would be annoying, and in this case cause a possibility of something similar being not as likely in the future.
