Definately requires skill lol. I'm rubbish at shopping... I always come back with junk and a pile of uneeded stuff which doesn't look quite right outside of the store lol. :D

Shopping is a huge skill! I hate it.

Oh and forgot to answer an earlier question ^ there somewhere. I´m 100% female and 100% self-taught, prolly explains why my stuff is rubbish. :D

I build, wearing my own avatar, (but prefer to do it on my own land rather than sandboxes, unless its something too huge), because I want the ownership to be in my name and the creator listed as Imogen and not an alt.

I build houses and furniture and also make some clothes and accessories like bags, but the thing that sells the most in my shop are actual buildings.

Taught myself with Ivory tower, and some classes for things I couldn't do alone.

I don't know if more men than women build things, I would say its pretty even, but the type of things people build seem to me to be more related to gender. Boys build boys things, girls build girls things. (I said 'more gender related' not 'totally')

Some of the best Male clothing is made by women (In my opinion, but I am a woman, so the guys may not agree).

I see more guys building in sandboxes than girls, but more girls these days than I used to see.

I don't script. I took a basic scripting class once and half way through it I just knew it wasn't my thing. Its all geek to me.

In my experience (managing 15 or so sims) it tends to be women that are more frequently builders, they do more building, and to a higher quality. I would also say that the *proportion* of women that build (out of all women) is much higher It's just one of those things, a bit like the best welders in real life are women too (a little known fact...) !

This was proven during WWII, when due to most men serving in the military, women were hired to work the assembly lines, making Aircraft, Tanks, Weapons etc. The quality and consistency of the work improved, it seems we have a better tolerance for mundane, repetitive tasks, that require attention to detail. Of course, once the war ended we were sent back to the kitchen, proving that Corporate America has a long and proud history of stupidity.

"Building" by and of itself I would consider to be something as basic as a structure (house, store, bridge, etc.). "Crafting" might be more in the line of hair, lamps, clothing, fountains, or animals - things that require a bit more minute detail beyond simple angles and shapes. Kind of hard to explain, actually.
This is interesting. Perhaps the distinction is whether the thing being constructed is intended primarily to enclose space or to fill it. That is, building of "structural" things is mostly supposed to form the spaces within. Of course the structure itself, viewed from the exterior, has a sort of "sculptural" role. And then there is the next level of "structural": the spaces created by the juxtaposition of this building-as-sculpture with the other stuff around it.

I think your "crafting" term refers to things that are primarily "sculptural".

Now, the Greeks might say that "structural" building is the creation of something feminine (a space), while "sculptural" building creates something masculine (a form)... so it would be fitting for males to obsess over the feminine, and females over the masculine, turning building into a kind of sublimation fantasy.

(But they were mostly gay, so YMMV. :p)

hey! I resemble that remark...
(and it's really not true, they just had a culturally different view on sexuality)

more interesting facts about women... according to old ussr testing women have better g-force endurance ratings and can mentally track more average targets than men, hence their inclusion as combat pilots, women can also have a greater possible range of color vision than men (tetra-chromatism) and a few other oddities past the mundane...
