An industrial designer here. Sadly I'm a bit older than the 32 years stated. However since gravity hasn't managed to ravage my body too much (Thank goodness for exercising & cycling to work), I voted yes.

44 year old secretary with tons of attitude My creative bent manifests itself in not-for-publication writing and private blogging - SL has inspired creativity as well, that unfortunately has not quite manifested...

From: AuraRaine Demina I assume they think it would be more suitable if I would slowly back my walker away for the computer, hobble over to my rocking chair and knit someone a sweater. I like dark green best by the way.

From: AuraRaine Demina Ha and the shock does not go unnoticed. Usually it is younger people that ask someones age. When I tell them I am 48 I get OMG! Why are you on SL? I assume they think it would be more suitable if I would slowly back my walker away for the computer, hobble over to my rocking chair and knit someone a sweater. I've gotten that kind of response from others in various MMO's. "You're 38 and playing video games??"

From: Brenda Connolly I figured you for Argyle I have Argyl socks for golf, but for sweaters I prefer something a little more mono-chromatic.

The quote in the Guardian regarding age, is possibly as a result of: Ppls lying on the account application, and LL supplying the data. The 7+ million accounts never used anymore are the under 25's that thought SL was something else. A 'poll' was made ingame in the same manner of '9 out of 10 cat owners said their moggie perfered <enter fav cat food here>', when you read the small print, only 256 owners that had time on their hands, that could be bothered to stop and answer some stupid 'nominal questionare' , or where in a forgien country and thought the interviewer was asking them 'What type of cat do you like to eat', or just trawl the internet looking for places to register their name and email in a 'research project', thinking this will bring them, a place in history. Creativity, I do my best, the internet has openned up a whole new world, from the one where I felt issolated beavering away creating things that only I could see, unless I cornered a member of the visiting family, or a passerby who remembered his glasses and could see the 14" screen, to show my 'colouring' (I still have my crayons someplace from when I was aged in single numbers). For me, it's about exploring in a world that is somewhat more forgiving, should you make a mistake (you can always blame SL ). Age? Well my mind is still as fresh and sharp from the days when 35 was a reality, all the time I have that, I feel compelled to press the ON button fixed to the PC's outer shell. Having a knowledge of whats happening inside the box, gives me a sense of comfort. It's only when it becomes late, that I start to think about sleep, knowing that if I tell myself 'I'll pull an all nighter', I will suffer more now than a few years ago.. especially as I have remarried and have a young wife and a 3 1/2 year old that doesn't yet know about weekends being Daddy's days of a lie in. Caffene no longer being the wonder drug that would give me the boost needed to type out that long highly detailed letter/email that I promised someone yesterday. It's great to have my youngest daughter ingame and working alongside her Dad, giving me the opportunity to interface with her in a world of business, never thinking I could ever relay that part of my life to her, once she became a Mum of two great granddaughters . Now I can tell her how proud I am of her acheivements, as I am a part of them. That alone is so much more than I could have ever hoped for. They say the brain slowly dies eachday that you don't exercise it, well using SL gives me a daily workout, a place where I can stretch the boundaries of my imagination, whereas maybe in RL, when you reach a 'mature age', modern societies no longer think that you have a worth, and neatly place those lovely plaid slippers by your chair, for you to read the newpaper and watch old B&W movies, whilst drifting into the 'good ole days'. BAH... no slippers for me! During the day, I work in a world of creativity in the Construction Industry, long are the days when I would craft things by my own hand, now my tools are the pen, keyboard and the telephone.

Well im a 36y/o IT Manager.......
I remember when computers were more simpler, programers had 2k of RAM to play with and you had to load everything by tape. Then came the Spectrum, the Dragon, the VIC 20, the Commador16, the BBC modelB, the electron, the oric. The Mac LC, the IBM PC all the x86 varients..
When windows came on 6 Floppies, or even when you could get Windows95 on 37 Floppies
I met my RL wife in a chat room 10 years ago... last week was our 9th wedding aniversary and i remember sat in front of my 386 SX16 with 4mb ram, 40mb hard drive and a 9600 modem. You think YOU have lag try....chatting up a girl like this..
me ... Hi [5 minutes - go to make coffee and a sandwhich..........] Her..... hi there where have you been [5 minutes - smoke a cigg drink coffee] me ... Sorry computer a bit slow today Her.... Well ive waited 10 minutes and you havnt said anything
Most humerous *grin*

/me smiles at the latest posts, and is in awe that over two hundred people have responded to the poll and so many took the time to tell a smidgen of their life stories.. and were brave enough to say how old they are and what they do! Please don't stop.. Its great to know a bit more about you all. I am glad to know i am not the only one that doesn't fit the pattern, not even in a minority, looking at the statistics... love, sincerely imogen

"RAM and tape? So you used them new fangled things. Back in the old days we had core and switches...." and copper wire was bound in bitumous tape... and wandered off Lands End in solid copper conductors from a little shed on a hill, Our valve black and white 1958 TV worked until the 405 line tx`s were turned off in 1985...I used to build tx`s at Pye TVT in Cambridge... Now one is lucky if electronics isnt superceded and out of date in 12 months, spares? what are those.... get a new one.. Is a sign of the times that one can buy a new electric iron in our local supermarket for less than the price of a beer and a packet of cigarettes in a pub.. if one can find a pub with a "smoking room" that hasnt been turned into a takeaway restaurant.. Slips into nostalgia....

i dont know why people are surprised ppl 35-40 play video games. they are the video game generation after all. these were the first kids to wire pong and atari2600 to the family tv. they are the kids that spent 6 hours typing basic poke codes into their vic20's, theyre the kids that ditched pinball for asteroids, space invaders, and plugged enough coins into donkey kong to make mario a cultural icon. why would kids today see themselves as somehow more in tune with video games?

Nope, don't fit. 48 here, underground coal extraction technician. Never touched a computer until 1998, now I build my own, self taught photoshop. Never did a MMO till this one, became hooked within 2 days. Somewhat creative and artistic, learning LSL on my own by trial and error(and good coder friends). Oh, and I prefer blackberry cobbler, with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream.

I hate to admit it, but... yeah, it fits me. 32 exactly, previous background in graphics and 3D modeling/rendering-type work... Granted, I didn't read the article, so I don't know about any other parts of the SL "stereotype" ...but age and background are a check.
