Hi... forum readers may all be familiar with this article from the Guardian newspaper, which gives a brief but reasonable (as far as it goes) summary of life in second life. (IMHO) But i read it for the first time today. http://www.guardian.co.uk/secondfest/story/0,,2098676,00.htmla quote from there.... "The average age of the people you'll meet there is 32. Most of them are creative professionals with backgrounds in areas like architecture, design, education and fashion." I don't fit with either of the above statements, being 51 years old and working as a Food Hostess in a private hospital (only a very slightly glorified waitress who takes the food to the patients). I don't expect everyone will wish to be as open about their age and what they do in real life as I have just been, but do you fit with the stereotype quoted or not? just interested in how accurate the article might be or have been when it was written.

Mining/environmental engineering here... definitely not in a "creative" field.

I'm near the average age, and work in Education. How creative I am is debateable. I didn't bother to read the article.

I'm 34.75 and am definitely a creative professional.
Why does this feel like an a/s/l? thread?

Nope. Too old and I am not in a terribly creative field, although I've been known to make stuff up as I go along just to horrify my colleagues.

Some thoughts on some of the article....
08-24-2007 12:15
"Do touch poke, prod and examine everything. The Residents who created whatever you're manipulating will be proud of their stuff and will love that you're showing such interest. " Do NOT however do this for two days on the go. Or if the creator happens to be standing right next to you. Also do not ask for a free copy "so I can learn".....
"Do pimp your avatar. Newbie clothes are fine to cover up your virtual birthday suit on the day you arrive, but unless you want to be singled out as green behind the ears forever, change your outfits to represent your style and mood."
If you're a girl that is. Us men tend to stay in the same clothes forever. Just like RL.....
"Don't choose a first name like Dimwit or Doofus unless you're happy for people to call you that for the rest of your Second Life residency."
On the other hand, if the shoe fits up your bum...........
"Do keep your inventory organised."
hahahahahahaha
"Do fly around. The sky's be best vantage point ..."
It's Conan really, isn't it?!! Is there nothing this av won't do for his Open Skies policy???
"Do think outside the box." No, your think script has to be placed IN the box...it won't work otherwise......

25, Web developer. (better with the creative than the math part of web dev) I rarely meet people my age and even more rarely meet people younger than me. I kind of assume everyone is my age and I'm always shocked that they end up being old enough to be my mom or dad. Or that they have kids! I see having kids as that monumental step into adulthood and I'm still stuck at the "should I get couches that match and didn't come from a relatives attic?" stage.

It takes me about 4 days to read the Saturday Guardian, so by the time I picked up the Guide section where Secondfest was advertised I'd already missed it. So I got the hump and didn't bother to read the article 49. Warehouse Op. And rapidly becoming disabused of the fond belief that my creative abilities have remained untapped all these years in favour of the fact that I haven't actually got any.

49, supervisor in electronic assembly company. I fix automated assembly machines. My talents for this job are eyes that miss no details, brain that understand very complicated processes and delicate machinery, and an overactive intuition that is right 98% of the time. And yes, I have included the above in my job resume.

I'm not too far off the average age, but I don't work in any of those fields ... but I am a "hobby creative", if that makes sense.
SL was much more creative-focused and skewed that way demographically when it started than it is now. That's been the major trend over the past few years with SL, as compared with when I was first here in 2004.
