I haven't even gotten past the log in screen. All I get is an error message that says it is either two things: SL server fail (for weeks? SL, you may want to invest in some new severs) or 'you don't have an internet connection'. Of course, it's the second one because I am obviously posting this to you via telepathy. My internet has not changed at all since the MANY times this year that I have somehow magicly logged on to SL with my apparent 'no internet connection'. My firewall has not changed. Nothing in my computer has changed. I even un-installed and reinstalled. Exact same fail. I have changed my log in location. Exact same fail. On both of my accounts.
So is there a witchcraft spell I am missing?

From: Couldbe Yue did you check your firewall? your router or your firewall could be blocking it. What router? And as for the firewall I have just checked it. I have doscovered that I have had no virus protection or firewall for a while (possibly more than a week) as it suddenly became magicly uninstalled.

From: BimboZombie Morpork What router? ... ok, to get closer to the core of this, post a detailed description of how your internet connection at home is set up.

One question: Are you running a wired network or wireless? If you're running wireless, you might want to considered going wired, because SL is a MAJOR data hog....

Wow SL uninstalled our Anti Virus programs and turned off your firewall? Sounds like another site or program might have done this, but that seems to be a new viewer bug.

There's a previous thread on this same problem. /327/19/323712/1.htmlThere have been reports that the provision of system information helps in determining solutions to problems.

Well, combining information from that thread and this one, there's still a critical bit of information missing: how the client computer is actually connected to the internet. In that thread, there was mention of a LAN, but what's missing is how that LAN is routed. Now, it could be that the router isn't something you can access (e.g., at a work location)--in which case there's a very real possibility that whoever controls that router has selectively turned off access to the ports and addresses needed to connect to SecondLife.
On the other hand, if you control that router--and any other boxes on the network between you and the ISP's wall jack--then you should power-cycle those boxes and try again. They can get "hung up" about a particular connection. If that doesn't help, the next step may be a call to the ISP itself.
There is still a possibility that something has gone very wrong on the computer itself, possibly related to that thing of having no firewall and no virus protection. Although, if there really were *no* firewall between an unprotected machine and the Internet, I don't think the machine would be usable long enough to post a message here, so I'm guessing there's a firewall in the router--wherever it may be.
So anyway, as Lance requested above, to get much more specific we really need to know what's between this machine and the Internet. And some info on the client machine configuration wouldn't hurt, either, from SL's Help/About box.

Perhaps your parents put SL on the NetNanny list.
Pep (Or your neighbour changed the network settings wirelessly.)
PS If you don't say how your network is set up we might suggest that the fly Obama killed had chewed through the sl connection.

So my parents can magicly control my internet from the other side of the district now? And my network is a LAN which hasn't changed at all since the last time I logged on so it isn't the connection or the firewall.

i'm not sure what your OS is but have you checked to see if somehow your windows firewall somehow could be blocking you from SL ..if thats the OS you are using.. i've heard of that happening before..
also could be a virus ..if your anti virus and firewall have been disabled thats a good chance..i had one do that to me and then take over my internet until i finally had to format.. like two different times i've had viruses do that to me..
also what was something you changed on your system around the time that you found you couldn't connect???if you made any changes that is.. that or maybe updated a viewer around then?

Okay, we confess. We did it. All of us. It was a grand conspiracy and it has worked flawlessly. It has to be that, right? Cause obviously everything about your system is perfect, even though we still don't have a clue what that system is comprised of. It was not easy to pull off though. And turning off the firewall and virus checker, that was just an extra bonus we threw in for fun.

Dude, really, make a Format C and install the entire package again. Then try out all mentioned viewers, and try out all possible network settings. Also, get cable. If that doesn't work, then I believe this free forum can't really be of assistance in this particular case, and you'll have to put in a ticket.

Viewers? I already have a wired connection so that has no concequence. And I don't see how some kind of entertainment preformance is going to fix a problem over the internet.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville triage I get it. Really, I do. And yet, inexplicably, I'll try one more time: So, what is this "LAN" and, specifically, what are all the devices on that LAN between the client machine and the Internet? When you have that list, power down every piece of equipment on it, then bring them back up, one at a time, starting at the ISP's gateway device and ending with the client machine itself.
