SecondLife was apparently 'down for maintanance' for a while and as usual this only lasted a day. It even had a scedual for when it would be back up. This was exactly a week ago. How long does this usually take?

Sl only closed logins for about an hour when they ran the emergency maintenance last week.. Hasn't been down since then .. if you are experiencing problems logging in you may want to change your log in location .

And it is the only way I can change my log in location to be able to log in without actually logging in. |

hit ctrl-P to pull up preferences(or just click on EDIT-Preferences at the top of your screen).
In the general tab click the box to show Start location on login Screen The close prefs and you will see a drop down by where you type your username and password , click the drop down and click the TYPE LOCATION and then type a Sim name like Sweethearts or any other sim name you may know That will make you log in to a different location _____________________

He can't login to change his login location. You can change preferences from the login screen. |

You can change preferences from the login screen. Yes - Bimbo - just fire up the SL browser application and press ctrl-p - this will open up the Preferences window. Then follow Dilbert's post at #5 above. _____________________

Or even easier, you don't have to change preferences, there's a drop down menu under your log in ID and password.
Another option is to click on a random SLURL from wherever and log in from there (it will autofill your drop down menu). |

Actually Looli - you don't get that drop down menu unless you set the Preferences to show it - I was guessing that this was the problem here.

Make sure your firewall isn't preventing you from connecting.

What modem and router? And my firewall is the same as it has always been and somehow I could still magiclly log on to SL. You have to have some sort of connection to the Internet. That's usually through done through a modem in or attached to your computer, or a router, somewhere in your house. Are you connecting wirelessly? _____________________
