How is the new viewer for everyone?

I am really getting anxious about this issue. I am hearing all these graphics problems, and crashes, frame rates. In the current version of 1.22 that I am using, if I do not use "recommended settings" for graphics the game is unplayable. "Recommended settings" puts everything at the apparent lowest possible quality setting. I take it with 1.23.4, my computer will not run SL any more. I use a laptop, and whatever the computer came with originally. If it the case that 1.22 runs only on rock bottom settings, will 1.23.4 even work at all? I need to start ditching my land, telling my friends goodbye and selling what I can to cash out as much of my investment as I can if this is the case, before 1.23.4 becomes reality. Will I have to say "sianora" to SL? PS...I have tried other viewers (cool viewer and such) and have found none that work to my satisfaction so this would not be an option.

Eventually it will be required, but they have plenty of time to work out the bugs between now and then.

I'm still using the RC with no problems other than alpha textures are screwwy with shadows on. Is the main viewer any different to the RC?

It's the same as RC4. I'm finding textures load slowly, my av is a cloud for longer when I first login but generally it has been ok, teleports seem faster, not sure how that's possible so I'm putting this down to imagining it.

Did anyone else notice that the ability to fix the orientation of the minimap is gone in the new viewer? You used to be able to control whether North was up or the avatars current orientation was up. I always preferred to have North be up as the constant rotation of the minimap drove me crazy. But now I am stuck with a rotating minimap. I have filed a PJIRA issue asking for the feature to be returned: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-14224

After a couple of days when the viewer 'seemed to have settled down' lods of probs last time (yesterday) I was on line.

Rezzed, after log in, as a white cloud. On screen message to say 'clothing still downloading, you cannot see your Av but appear norml to others.

Tried to TP to another location after 10 mins - no joy. Tried to get to edit appearance, not possible.

Finally, after 3 attempts (and still as a cloud) managed to TP to my home.

Rezzed properly there (hooray!) BUT as soon as I changed clothes the 'bits of body disappearing' problem again. Ended up rebaking 4 times.

Why oh why are they (LL) unable or unwilling to act quickly to deal with problems which have been evident for days. And why on earth did they release such a buggy piece of sofware in the first place!

Yes, the rotating minimap like this makes it almost useless to me.
I noticed the Hippo Viewer retained the ability to uncheck rotation.

(Holy necropost, Batman!)

If it's that upsetting, following the jira link shows that the option is still available, just moved to the Advanced menu. And following the jira linked from that jira, there's a much better option suggested in the comments: make rotate-or-not a selection from a right-click context menu on the Mini-Map itself.

But if this is upsetting, imagine the fun in store when the new "SL2.0" / "Viewer 2009" is unveiled. Supposedly one of the guiding design criteria is to unclutter the UI by burying less frequently used options and operations. But AFAIK no mere mortal has seen even a glimpse of the thing yet (and when they do they'll be bound by NDAs until it's ready for public viewing), so it's all speculation at this point.

Found it!
Ctrl-Alt-Shift-D to display Advanced menu and then down to "UI" an uncheck "Rotate Minimap".

PS: Haven't been in much and just noticed the problem, and "Yes" it does bug some of us!

I guess they're going to force all the oldbies to Snowglobe or one of the other FOSS viewers.
