My personal fav...my RL fiancee and I had a club in SL a while back. We had a new stripper who said she was gonna bring her SL family in to meet us...fine...RP, whatever...well they show up and their profiles claim they are a mafia family. Ok..still RP, whatever....THEN the "Godfather" im's me and says since his "God daughter is working for us now, they would like to offer us "protection." After spitting out my water, all over my keyboard...I im back...protection from what? He says, you know, from the bad guys, people who come in causing trouble. I said, trying to hold back the sarcastic comments...it's ok...we have our own "weapons." He continues that they will ensure us a safe place to work...I declined again. He persisted, as I did. I said..WE don't RP here, and while I didn't mind if they did, don't involve us our our customers...then he said, to let him know when we change our mind.

SHEESH.

-Blu- (watching her back)

Now this is funny. I don't find much to laugh about in this place but this is funny.

uhuh, protection from what? "giggles" that's my point, exactly. I mean, if a giant hand came out of my monitor and punched me in the chin, I could see it, but otherwise, Im sitting in my chair and dont expect any mafioso to sneak up behind me. Sure, I have no drama on my profile too, but like it's been said, it's because I dont wanna hear all the soap opera stories. Hey, I have no problem with RP, I do it myself, after all, we can do what we want in SL, our world, right? I just dont get some of it, that's all. Call me kooky.

Families are fine, hey, Ive already said I have a SL "sis", hell I sure am not gonna put that I'll rip you apart if you mess with her. I might even pay someone to do it on some days. Didnt mean to hurt your feelings, Crunch.

kooky ;)

but yea, having it in say that in profile is pretty much pointless as all they can do is up for an AR as harasement and nothing physical

no need for you to apologise yummy, it was porky's comments that were hurtfull i understand where he is coming from tho.

the family thing i can understand, i think it's a good thing for people to have. a social interaction for people who have little family and friends.

but i also know where your coming from about the profiles and people stating they will hurt you if you do something to so and so, it's childish. luckily i don't run into alot of these people altho i'm not exactly an SL social butterfly :) but on the odd occasion when i am dragged to a club or get sick of building alone and go to a sandbox there are usually a few of these types at those places.

Blu, your post about the "god family" reminds me of this Monty Python sketch where these gangsters go to this military base commander and offer to provide protection so no one gets hurt. The commander going about how many troops, tanks he has and why he wouldn't need them to protect him.
They are insisting they can protect his troops, tanks and anything that might break down.
Hehe
Crunch I am very much a loner so I understand, and it bugs me that some how if you're in situation with few friends, family be it here or rl that you are loser or something wrong with you is offensive but I get it too.
There people unless you're like them, in their cliques, experiencing the same things it must
mean something is wrong with you if you're not like them.
I know its BS but its hard sometimes.
It is more just how things are for some people. situations happen.
It doesn't mean everyone is going to go out do and say dumb things because they live in isolation here or in rl be it due to medical or personal reasons.

Tempting, isn't it? Every time I see one of these profiles, I have a strong, albeit inappropriate, urge to create as much havok as possible just to see what will actually happen.

I'm pretty sure a strongly worded IM is about the worst it can get, but I'm hoping for so much more.

Why, Trout, all you'd do is play "hide and seek"! :p

Come, join the world of trolling...we have lots of fun. :D

Sadly I rarely cross anyone interesting. Closest was an incident with some kind of small RP group that tried to "arrest" me for speeding on their roads in Sandbox Island. After blocking the intersection with partyvans, a rave cube and easily escaping their failcage 4 times they just teleported out from sheer embarrassment. Best 15 minutes I've ever spent in a sandbox.

We need more stories like this.

These skirmishes are what make SL fun in my opinion. Lets have less reporting/whining and more weapons testing!

They'd never find me. I'd IM them from wherever I'm hiding and just taunt them, but they would have no hope at all.

*shrugs* I regard all those profile notes about 'mess with my bro and you mess with me' as the same as the 'report all problems with this slave to soandsodom'. They are both invitations to roleplay.

In the slave instance, if you DO report a problem with a slave, as often as not you will receive an invitation to meet with the slave and dom/me to air your "grievance", and if all concerned get along and know what they're doing, some mutually satisfactory 3-way punishment or play of some kind would ensue.

In the 'mess with' instance, the person saying that is (or should be!) into drama/combat roleplay. The responses to 'messing with' the person named can be unpredictable, which many would regard as part of the fun. The one time I tried it, the 'messed with' person led me on into an intimate situation, then their protector showed up armed and aggressive, and much drahma was had by all. I got to use my 'stabbed in the back' anim, it was all good :)

So, my question is, how many badasses does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Two. But you have to put them in the lightbulb yourself.

I like those kind of profiles because it tells me who to avoid at all costs. Same for the "NO DRAMA" profiles.

I've actually seen this type of mentality spill over into some forum goers personas. Not this forum because they wouldn't be able to get away with it for long, but I can think of a few people on a few third party sites who swagger around acting like bad asses. I've even seen them proclaim that they "beat" someone "down" or "PWNED" someone, etc., which makes me believe that they are compensating for something, likely some sort of RL insecurity.
