Being a Virtual Badass

I've wondered about this very thing. I can understanding liking people and wanting to spend time with them online and in RL, but I never visualize wanting to hurt someone else. It's not part of my RL or fantasy life. I don't associate in RL or online with people who act harsh, either.

I have a LSL controlled 80metre 12.7 metre bore MegaPrim breechloading antipersonel weapon mounted under a 50x30m hydrogen blimp with twin Neko powered propellers that shall hunt and strike thee down if you mess with me or I don't like you very much.
Well it's 10% built anyways.................................

Seriously perhaps it comes from some peoples RL attitudes, there are islanders who live in some suburbs nearby who seem the most placid and friendly people to work with, but if you really crossed them or their family they have no regard for any laws when they respond and depending on what you did the results could be anything between half a dozen males around for a friendly chat or your body being found months later in the middle of nowhere.
But then again these people would never announce that to anyone, it would just happen if someone crossed the line.

This was something that totally puzzled me. Like they OP, I wonder what exactly they expect to do to me? Chances are there's a place for me to sit and ignore their attacks, and I found the mute control somewhere around day three in SL. At worst they can chase me away from somewhere, but it's not like there aren't a thousand similar places I could go. Anything truly effective they can do is likely to be ARable.

This attitude also makes me wonder what has happened to them to make them so defensive. When I first saw these sort of words in someone's profile I was amazed. I don't even know their friends, and if I did, why would I want to attack them? Are they that obnoxious that total strangers take potshots at them? Or are they such delicate ickle flowers that they need protecting from the world?

I can see the point of SL families, formed for whatever reason. You see them all over... RP-based, D/s-based, we-like-the-same-music-and-fashion-based. It's often said that 'friends are the new family'. I'm in one myself, and while we're all protective and supportive, no-one makes threats on each other's behalf.

In the end I realised its a juvenile, but probably sincere, expression of support for each other. It's a nice thing to know your friends would take your side in a fight or argument, but I just wish they could find a way of expressing it that wasn't so hostile.

Thats how i felt, also, I was just kind of amazed that there was a "need" to write this stuff. Like I said, I have a SL "sis", and sure, I know you can get really close in SL. I just dont understand why I would have to write,"Mess with my sis and I'll kick your ass"..

But perhaps, as Suezanne suggests, they all live in a bad SL neighborhood. Drive-by shootings. Adfarmers. That sorta thing.

Maybe there's not even midnight basketball in their sims.

Now I feel kind of sorry for them.

The only time anyone has called the family in was when I pointed out to a female that was complaining (in poor English, which was obviously a second language) that nice men never talked to her; I pointed out that her first name was very similar to a type of sexually transmitted disease and perhaps this was putting men off.

She threatened to call in her "mother"as she felt that this was in some way *my* fault and when her "relative" subsequently IMd me (in even worse English) I pointed out that HER name was slang for a female sex organ.

Never heard from them again.

LOL Great thread! I never quite got it either. My reaction was exactly the same as yours....what adult feels the need to write this sh** in their profile? It doesn't compute with me. There used to be a 'family' that owned 2 plots of land behind mine and they were of this badass ilk. LOL The mother and daughter were like the bling beyotches from hell and all the guys I ever saw were tough guy types with dark sunglasses and tank tops. It was just outrageous......

And then I thought.....hey.....maybe "Growing Up Gotti" decided to go live in SL~!!! Really tho...it was just bizarre. Everyone had the same kind of badass threats in their profiles....they even went with a really tacky mock Italianite mansion to live in. It was over the top bad. LOL

But this is what totally puzzles me.....how do these people FIND each other in SL.....they're everywhere.....so the scary thing here, is that a lot of people actually DO enjoy taking on that badass persona. Maybe some of em are total wusses who are doormats IRL and SL is their way of reversing the order of things. But still.....so MANY of them! LOL

(and anyway, if they mess with ME, I'll just whip out my multi weapon thingy and throw farts emitters at em....you wanna be a badass...I'll give ya 'bad ass') mwaaaahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa

My personal fav...my RL fiancee and I had a club in SL a while back. We had a new stripper who said she was gonna bring her SL family in to meet us...fine...RP, whatever...well they show up and their profiles claim they are a mafia family. Ok..still RP, whatever....THEN the "Godfather" im's me and says since his "God daughter is working for us now, they would like to offer us "protection." After spitting out my water, all over my keyboard...I im back...protection from what? He says, you know, from the bad guys, people who come in causing trouble. I said, trying to hold back the sarcastic comments...it's ok...we have our own "weapons." He continues that they will ensure us a safe place to work...I declined again. He persisted, as I did. I said..WE don't RP here, and while I didn't mind if they did, don't involve us our our customers...then he said, to let him know when we change our mind.

SHEESH.

Not really. Bein' the President of a virtual biker gang (sic), I see a lotta adults over the age of 35, who either don't know how to keep griefers off thier back, so they try & "threaten" them in the profile...or they just copy that style of writin' profiles from other people.

Usually they also include "NO DRAMA" and start as much gossip & passive-aggressive bull as possible in-world, lol.

Pretty much, get to know folks who don't value drama, mute griefers & report who u need to, and go about your business is my usual M.O.

the no drama, got that in my profile aswell but just so i don`t have to be rude when some one starts yapping about "****`s ex cheated with ****" as i simply don`t care and endup telling them to shutup or tp out
otherside, hardly know anyone to start a drama, let alone have any info for that
