From: Ceera Murakami If they had a text-only IM client, I would use it. But because SLim is so completely and absolutely wedded to Voice, I'll never have any use for it. I don't use Voice, and no one I care to communicate with uses Voice in any way that would ever change my opinion on using it. The few times that a sim building client has forced me to at least listen to them via Voice Chat, while typing my own responses, I found it to be worthless and almost unintelligible. Hmmm... thats odd. I have SLim installed and not once used nor was forced to use Voice in any form? We're "forced" to install Quicktime to view video in SL, so wheres the difference? Or are you just paranoid?? I hear Hello Kitty's World doesnt have voice. But I will agree- a Text Only version would be more useful.

From: Ceera Murakami Well, I won't clutter this thread with any more discussion from me, then. If it only works for other SLim users and people using the SLim-enabled First Look client, then it's of no use at all to me. Off to other threads... Aww gee! Dont go! You havent convinced us to why things should be YOUR way yet

From: Tod69 Talamasca We're "forced" to install Quicktime to view video in SL, so wheres the difference? How many people actually do that? I don't have Quicktime installed, and I don't miss it. SLIM doesn't give me any capability that just running the SL client doesn't give me. The SL client is no more resource intensive than Photoshop and other programs I have to run anyway. SLIM doesn't run on anything less than a full blown PC, it doesn't work through firewalls any better than SL, and it's standing in the way of a real open-protocol-based solution. Oh, and it means my friends can't use the RC or third-party clients if they want to talk to me using SLIM. It's just a downright weird "solution". A jabber-IM gateway would be easier, firewall-friendly, secure, efficient, would work on any platform, including many mobile phones...
