Hi, I have been in SL for just over 5 months. In that time I have come across a profile thats sole intention is to split up RL marriages. Can anything be done about this?

Yes, there is something that can be done about this. Create a profile the the sole intention to encourage people not to do things in Second Life that would cause their spouses to want a divorce.

My profile's sole intention is educating people that "kitsune" does not mean "fox spirit." Seriously, this is important! Americans are butchering the Japanese language, and no one is willing to stop them??

:p

In all seriousness, I'm curious about what the OP's concern is. Do they mean a *person* is trying to break people up? I don't understand how a mere profile can have an impact that big.

I think that is how slang happens, and what does it mean?

It means "fox", especially the red fox, vulpes vulpes. To say "spirit fox" you'd have to add more words, such as kyuubinokitsune (literally nine tailed fox, refers to a spirit), or another word all together, such as youko (more generic word, refers to monsters and demons). The error probably arose from the fact that in Japanese mythology, foxes take a role similar to wolves in European fairytales, in that they're always something other than the real animal, but the word used to label them is the same.

And Argent, that's inari, totally different word! :p

It's also known as kitsune-zushi because of the "fox ears" corners and the association of the fox with the goddess Inari.

I knew that, but I wouldn't recognize the food by appearance only (I don't care for sushi) so I was commenting on the file name. :D

Ok, its difficult to explain. Its all to do with mind games, twisting things, saying your a slave to marriage. People can be very persuasive this way, it can happen before you realise it. I hope you never come across a person like this in SL.

Oh come on - you surely don't believe everything you read? ;) And anyway, when you've read it once, you don't have to read it again - and again - and again - until you believe it's true!

Read the TOS and CS rules those are on this website. Look on the main page, once you log in, at the bottom, for links.

If the person is using RL info to 'disclose' and try and ruin someone's RL or even their SL usage or enjoyment, you can file an abuse report on them. Go to Help/Report Abuse in your SL viewer.

If two people love each other and want to stay married, they will. A trouble maker made of pixels is no threat. Moose dropping from the sky and messing up your car, now that's a real threat.

Eh, I disagree. There is a reason for 'disclosure' being a big no-no in TOS. Also it's just none of anyone else's business.

Still very unclear what the OP means, though. Sounds like a lot of drama, but some people like drama better than Wheaties for breakfast.

I'd never ask anyone to do so.

Just enough so that we knew what we were answering - since you took the time to begin a thread and ask a question - helps to make sense of the vaguest notion of the situation at least. That's all.

You don't have to tell me in IM either. Maybe reading the TOS and CS rule pages will help you to discern whether the person is in violation of linden labs rules or not.

We butcher the English tongue, too. We're equal opportunity language manglers. But now I'm curious. If not "fox spirit", what DOES kitsune mean?

@Brenda: When did you abdicate?
