This Tuesday at 7pm SL, Vagabonds Yacht Club will host an informal match racing tournament in Sanchon. Theodore Polonsky will be your Race Committee and Protest Committee.

We'll start pairs as fast as we can, hopefully 1 pair every 4 minutes, on the VYC Medium Course. Depending on how many people show up, we'll do single- or double- elimination to determine the winner. This will be a fast-paced event, and your Race Committee will give out extra karma points for keeping things moving.

We will be racing under the full ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing, plus the 3 VYC experimental rules. These are available in this forum, or from the Race Committee if you ask nice. See http://www.sailingcourse.com/ for an introduction to the rules and tactics.

The Black Flag Rule 30.3 will be in effect, modified from 1 minute to 2 minutes. This means if you are in the triangle formed by the ends of the line and the first mark during the two minutes before the start you will be disqualified.

Spinnakers prior to the start will be allowed.

The VYC Medium Course, including landmarks, is available at the Sanchon Sailing Center.

If you have any questions, or if you need copies of the VYC Medium Course or the experimental rules addendum, please arrive promptly. We will gather at 7pm SL, and racing starts at 7:10 sharp. Latecomers will be mocked mercilessly, but we'll probably be able to squeeze them into a later heat.

First Casual Race a Success!

Wednesday night, the first casual race was held. A nice showing of experienced and new sailors showed up and participated. Also, some people interested in sailing watched. Approximately 7 boats participated in one or all of the three races. Didn't capture the results of the first race, but here are the results of the second and third:

Race 2
Sailing Race Line: Race Results:
Sailing Race Line: 1: Svar Beckersted - +00:04:57
Sailing Race Line: 2: James Newcomb - +00:05:52
Sailing Race Line: 3: Pacifien Massiel - +00:06:13
Sailing Race Line: 4: Ali Akami - +00:06:41
Sailing Race Line: 5: Tasha Kostolany - +00:07:05

Race 3
Sailing Race Line: Race Results:
Svar Beckersted - +00:04:29
Pacifien Massiel - +00:05:00
James Newcomb - +00:05:16
Ali Akami - +00:06:46
Tasha Kostolany - +00:06:54
Elisia Mayfair DNF

Jules Cerveau participated in the first race, but had to leave.

Special thanks to the casual race committee for helping to make this first race a success. Lehua Lamington, Andre Richelieu and Carmelita Carrillon were great help. Also to Tasha Kostolany for the banner and other things she did. A great party on the deck took place afterwards.

We will have another casual race this coming Wednesday night (8/30), starting at 8:00 P.M. Spread the word! Any ideas for a theme?

Weekly racing will resume Monday, September 11 at 6:00 SLT on the Olympic course. Self-appointed Racing Director Jamey Sismondi will run the line then beat all comers! (Sound like a challenge or what?!)

Don't forget Casual Sailing nights too on Wednesdays! Tonight is "Bad Hair" night! Bring your baddest hair and your fastest sailboats for some fun on the water! 6 pm SLT!

Mowry. Be there. Or be bald. Yes, Faykin, that means you.
