I meant to post this much earlier, but I've been slacking. SAILBOAT AND PIRATE SHIP SHOW! ARRRRR!Start Time: 6 PM SLT, Saturday, 20 May, 2006 End Time: 6PM SLT, Tuesday, 23 May, 2006 Location: Sanchon(224,91)Hosts: Static Sprocket and the Vagabonds Yacht Club Calling all sailors and builders! You are invited to display your custom boat builds at the upcoming Sailboat and Pirate Ship Show at the docks in Sanchon(224,91) this coming May 20th! A competition will be held specifically for boats that use the Flying Tako sailboat scripts found either at the LSL Wiki (Flying Tako 2 script) or in-world at Gray(34,163) (Flying Tako 3 script). This is the second boat show hosted at Sanchon, and hopefully we've ironed out a few of the quirks from the previous show. Thanks to the donations of the Foundation for Rich Content, the Second Life Sailing Federation, and a top-secret pirating society, we currently have over L$15,000 to give away to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in categories such as Best Sail, Best Hull, Best Theme, Deadliest Pirate Boat, and Best Overall. The official unveiling of boat entries will be at 6 PM SLT this Saturday, May 20th, but you are welcome to bring your boats by at any time if the time zone or other committments prevent you from attending. Voting will start later in the night and be ongoing to all the public until 6 PM SLT the following Tuesday, May 23rd. Presumably you'll be allowed to change your vote up until the deadline, to accommodate for newer entries that strike your fancy. Any boat is welcome, so long as it sails! Grog will be available at the Pirate Pub. Har! More information (such at Tako templates, voting procedure, and crucial pirate translations) is available along the boardwalk at Sanchon. Questions? Answers? Send IM to... Event Organizer: Static Sprocket VYC Contact: Pixeleen Mistral Person Mostly Likely to Respond: Pacifien Massiel

The Sailboat and Pirate Ship Show currently running in Sanchon(224,91) has proven such a success that we've decided to extend the timeframe until Saturday, May 27th! Because of the show's extension, voting will now close at 6 PM SLT, Thursday, May 25th.Everyone please take the time to come down and vote for your favorites. We have a considerable amount of prize money to divvy up among the winners. Show them how much you appreciate their craftsmanship by making sure they win sweet, sweet cash!

Vagabonds Yacht Club 50th regatta, Saturday 4PM June 10
06-09-2006 07:21
Since I want to go hear the special annuoncement that will change Second Life Sailing forever (sounds like one of those end-of-the-season TV show teasers) the VYC saturday races are moved to 4PM. Next week we will go back to our now traditional 7PM.
Oh, and by the way... this is the 50th VYC event (I've been keeping count).
See you in Sanchon saturday at 4 PM.

SLSF Cup - Team Trials
06-16-2006 08:30
TEAM TRIALS HAVE BEGUN!The first four weeks are dedicated to team selection amongst sponsor clubs. Major venues will likely host a series of regattas to determine their club champions, but many smaller clubs will also be actively recruiting crew throughout the various sailing fleets. The best way to secure a position on a sponsored team is to get out on the water and sail - keep an eye on the Second Life Sailing Federation group forum's Upcoming Events, talk to people at the major club regattas. Inquire with any sailing club director for more information about sailing on their team. Clubs already conducting team trials include: Starboards Yacht Club - Hollywood (96,149,25) Thursdays 6PM SLT, Sundays 3PM SLT Vagabonds Yacht Club - Sanchon (225,91,22) Tuesdays, Saturdays 7PM SLT THE SUMMER 2006 SLSF CUP SERIES...The Second Life Sailing Federation Cup is a perpetual challenge trophy for friendly competition between sailing clubs. Modeled after the real-life America's Cup, the SLSF Cup regatta series encourages the proliferation of sailing enthusiasm across Second Life through a season of realistic fleet and match racing between club-sponsored teams of Second Life's top sailors. The Summer 2006 SLSF Cup season lasts twelve weeks: 10 June - 10 July - Team Selection 15 July - Challenger Act 1 22 July - Challenger Act 2 29 July - Challenger Act 3 05 Aug - Challenger Act 4 12 Aug - Challenger Act 5 19 Aug - Challenger Act 6 26-27 Aug - Challenger Cup 02-03 Sep - SLSF Cup WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?Anyone! Challenger teams consist of up to four crew, with a minimum of one skipper and one tactician required to sail in any particular race. The only requirement is that teams be sponsored by an active sailing club. Team trials last four weeks, and are at each sponsor club's discretion. Can't find a sponsor club to suit your needs? Start your own! It's very easy to qualify as an active sailing sailing club: simply agree to host six public regattas over the next six months. The SLSF is full of resourceful people eager to help new clubs get off the ground, so don't hesitate to ask. New to sailing, but still interested in participating? Teams need crew! Inquire with the SLSF or any participating yacht club for a bounty of experienced real-life and second-life sailors raring to take new people under their wing.
