ANNOUNCING THE SUMMER 2006 SLSF CUP!The Second Life Sailing Federation Cup is a perpetual challenge trophy for friendly competition between sailing clubs. Modeled after the real-life America's Cup, the SLSF Cup regatta series encourages the proliferation of sailing enthusiasm across Second Life through a season of realistic fleet and match racing between club-sponsored teams of Second Life's top sailors. The Summer 2006 SLSF Cup season lasts twelve weeks: 10 June - 10 July - Team Trials 15 July - Challenger Act 1 22 July - Challenger Act 2 29 July - Challenger Act 3 05 Aug - Challenger Act 4 12 Aug - Challenger Act 5 19 Aug - Challenger Act 6 26-27 Aug - Challenger Cup 02-03 Sep - SLSF Cup WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?Anyone! Challenger teams consist of up to four crew, with a minimum of one skipper and one tactician required to sail in any particular race. The only requirement is teams be sponsored by an active sailing club. Team selection lasts four weeks, and is at each sponsor club's discretion. Can't find a sponsor club to suit your needs? Start your own! It's very easy to qualify as an active sailing sailing club: simply agree to host six public regattas over the next six months. The SLSF is full of resourceful people eager to help new clubs get off the ground, so don't hesitate to ask. New to sailing, but still interested in participating? Teams need crew! Inquire with the SLSF or any participating yacht club for a bounty of experienced real-life and second-life sailors raring to take new people under their wing. HOW ARE THE RACES SCORED?The first four weeks are dedicated to team selection amongst the sponsor clubs. Major venues will likely host a series of regattas to determine their club champions, but many smaller clubs will also be actively recruiting crew amongst the various racing fleets. The best way to secure a position on a sponsored team is to get out on the water and sail - keep an eye on the Second Life Sailing Federation group forum's Upcoming Events, talk to people at the major club regattas. The next six weeks consist of a series of Challenger Acts, fleet regattas scored progressively with greater weight given to later Acts. The final team rankings will be used to award bonus points toward the Challenger Cup. The Challenger Cup is a match racing tournament broken into two parts. A match racing round-robin will see all teams sailing head-to-head, the final score incorporating bonus points from the Challenger Acts. The top four teams will then compete in a single-elimination first-to-win-three match racing tournament to be awarded the Challenger Cup. The SLSF Cup is a first-to-win-five series of match races between a Challenger and a Defender. For this summer's inaugural SLSF Cup, however, it will consist of a rematch between the top two Challenger Cup finalists, after a week's recovery and preparation. The winning team takes home the SLSF Cup and the glory of being recognised as Second Life's top sailors, but they cannot rest on their laurels - they must be prepared to Defend the Cup against next season's Challenger! WHAT ARE THE RULES?Just like the America's Cup, the SLSF Cup is governed by a Deed of Gift establishing the basic format of competition. Each season is further clarified under three documents issued by the SLSF Cup Committee: the Terms of Challenge, which detail the rights and obligations of all participants; the Protocol, which details the format and rules for the series; and the Class Rule, which details permitted sailboats and other equipment restrictions. This summer's SLSF Cup series will be sailed with stock Flying Tako 3.2 sailboats under the full International Sailing Federation Racing Rules. More specific details will be made available as the SLSF Cup Committee releases the Terms of Challenge, Protocol, and Class Rule over the coming weeks. Keep an eye on the Second Life Sailing Federation group forum for future announcements. Inquiries may be directed to the Summer 2006 SLSF Cup Committee, consisting of Al Kaiser, Myrrh Massiel, and Oliphant Ming.

SECOND LIFE SAILING FEDERATION CUP DEED OF GIFT
This deed of gift, made 10 June 2006, between Myrrh Massiel as an active participant across the breadth of Second Life's sailing community, and the Second Life Sailing Federation as a broad advocate of sailing enthusiasm and support venues within Second Life,
WITNESSES
That Myrrh Massiel, in consideration of the premises and of the performance of the conditions set forth hereafter, bestows upon the Second Life Sailing Federation, its successors, and its assigns, the Cup to which this document is attached, IN TRUST NEVERTHELESS for the following uses:
This Cup is donated upon condition that it be preserved as a perpetual Challenge Cup for friendly competition between sailing venues.
Any active Sailing Club registered as a group within Second Life and hosting at least six Public Regattas, posted one week in advance to both the Events Calendar and SLSF Forum 'Upcoming Events' and open to participation from all SL residents, over the previous six months at the home venue of its choosing, or as defined by mutual consent of the SLSF Cup Committee, shall always be entitled to the right of Challenge, to sail a match against the Defending Club holding this Cup, or to compete for that right.
The Challenging Club shall give three months' notice, posted in writing to the SLSF forum, naming the days for the proposed races no sooner than six months after the previous SLSF Cup Challenge. Accompanying the three months' notice, both the Challenging and Defending Club shall nominate one seat to an SLSF Cup Committee of exactly three seats, supplemented and ratified by simple majority at a public SLSF meeting. Two months prior to the proposed races, both the Challenger and Defender shall post a team of no more than four crew to champion their Club, or as otherwise determined by mutual consent of the SLSF Cup Committee.
Other Clubs entitled to the right of Challenge may post their intent to compete for that right, along with with a team of no more that four crew to champion their Club, to the SLSF forum no less than two months prior the proposed races, or as otherwise determined by mutual consent of the SLSF Cup Committee.
The SLSF Cup Committee may, by mutual consent, make any arrangement satisfactory to both the Challenger of Record and Defender as to the dates, courses, number of trials, rules, and any other conditions of the match.
The competing vessels shall consist of the most recent SLSF-sanctioned racing sailboat, unmodified, unsupplemented, and supporting a crew of two or more, or as determined by mutual consent of the SLSF Cup Committee.
Competitors for the right to Challenge shall participate in a match tournament amongst all such competitors, including the Challenger of Record, no less than one week prior to the SLSF Cup match. This tournament shall consist of up to three races per match, with the first winner of two races proceeding victorious to the next round, or as determined by mutual consent of the SLSF Cup Committee. All such races shall be administered by the SLSF Cup Committee under the most current ISaF Racing Rules of Sailing, at a course of the SLSF Cup Committee's choosing.
In the case that the SLSF Cup Committee, Defender, and Challenger of Record cannot mutually agree to the terms of a match, then up to nine match races shall be sailed, and the first winner of five such races shall be entitled to the SLSF Cup. All such races shall be strictly open water courses, free of land and all other obstacles, at a location of the Defender's choosing. The course shall be an Olympic Triangle of at least 500 meters total length, to be administered by the SLSF Cup Committee under the most current ISaF Racing Rules of Sailing.
In the event that a Club holding the SLSF Cup is for any cause dissolved, or found in violation of this Deed of Gift, or otherwise disqualified by mutual consent of the SLSF Cup Committee, the SLSF Cup shall be revoked to the custodianship of the Second Life Sailing Federation. In such a case the SLSF Cup committee shall field a match tournament amongst all Challengers, subject to the provisions above, and the two top finishing Challengers shall then proceed in a best-of-nine match as outlined above, at a location of the SLSF Cup Committee's choosing.
In every case the acting SLSF Cup Committee shall continue to serve until replaced at the event of a posted Challenge. If a seat is vacated prematurely, its replacement shall be selected by simple majority at a public SLSF meeting.
The SLSF Cup Committee shall retain the right to amend this document by mutual consent of its membership.
AND, the Second Life Sailing Federation accepts this Cup subject to said trust, and agrees that it will faithfully see that the foregoing conditions are fully complied with by any contestant for this Cup, and that it will deliver this Cup to the Sailing Club whose team has emerged victorious per the foregoing terms, provided said Club agrees to these provisions and SLSF custodianship of this Cup's transfer where warranted by this document.

Vagabonds Yacht Club will participate
06-11-2006 09:56
Vagabonds Yacht Club will be using our regular 7 PM tuesday/7PM saturday races to select sailors to represent VYC. I just happen to have 4 shiny trophies which we will award to the skipper/tactician and alternate skipper/tactician selected who choose to represent VYC. A pair of these trophies will be by the landing pad in Sanchon, and another pair in the starting line pagoda later today.
Note that because most sailors race with more than one club, it is not clear who will accept an invitiation to represent any given club. This makes it worth it to race even if you are not wining, since the top ranked sailors may not choose to represent VYC, but we are going to find a way to get someone to represent us, and it could very well be you.
See you on the water...

Notes on the SLSF Cup series format...
06-19-2006 13:34
As you may be aware, the only governing document issued so far is the Deed of Gift. Its conditions are altered on a seasonal basis, however, by three other governing documents issued by the SLSF Cup Committee: the Terms of Challenge (rules for participation), the Protocol (racing format), and the Class Rule (permitted boats and equipment). The SLSF Cup committee will issue the formal Terms of Challenge next weekend, at the start of week 3. The formal Protocol will be issued the following weekend, at the start of week 4, with the formal Class Rule to follow shortly thereafter. In the interim, the SLSF Cup Announcement notecard distributed last week is your best reference for the Summer 2006 series rules and format. The Notice of Challenge form, which each participating club is required to file no later than July 10th, will be issued with the Terms of Challenge. The SLSF Cup edition Flying Tako, which is the only boat permitted during Challenger Acts, Challenger Cup, and SLSF Cup races, will be issued with the Class Rule. Meanwhile, a few key points of clarification: - Any active sailing club is welcome to sponsor a team. - Sponsor Clubs must commit to host at least six public regattas over the next six months. Any format or rules are acceptable, as long as they're open to the general public. - Clubs may sponsor only one team, no more. - Team selection is entirely at each Sponsor Club's discretion. It may be by club records, open competition, active recruitment, totally arbitrary choice, or any means at all. Arm wrestling! - Teams rosters must be fixed by July 10th. Teams cannot change over the course of the series, however exceptions due to extenuating circumstances will be considered by the SLSF Cup committee. - Teams consist of 2-4 crew; at least two team members need show up to participate. Each team sails only one boat in any given race, with exactly two crew (one skipper and one tactician), no more and no less. Crew may rotate between races or regattas at their own discretion, but the same skipper and tactician must sail for the duration of any single race. - Challenger Acts will be scheduled each Saturday from 12.00-1.30PM SLT. The Challenger Cup and SLSF Cup are both Saturday/Sunday events, scheduled from 12.00-2.00 PM SLT. Events will run longer if required to complete all scheduled races. - The six Challenger Acts will rotate through each participating club's home venue, on a course and wind of approximately ten minutes expert sailing time, to be selected by the SLSF Cup Committee. Acts will be assigned to venues on a random basis, exact courses to be announced at least one week in advance of all regattas. In the event that more than six Sponsor Clubs participate in the series, the SLSF Cup Committee will determine the six best-suited venues at their sole discretion. - The Challenger Cup and SLSF Cup will be held at a neutral venue unaffiliated with any participating club. Again, exact courses will be announced at least one week in advance. - All races will be sailed with stock Flying Tako 3.2s. Every team member will be provided with a no-modify/no-transfer SLSF Cup edition Flying Tako. - Absolutely no avatar attachements are permitted beyond the standard Tako HUDs: Tako Info HUD, Tako Button HUD, Tako HUD Lite, and Tako HUD Liter. You'll need to use a RL stopwatch and your tactician for situational awareness. Yes, this means no prim hair or prim clothes or prim accessories. Sailors are crusty, not pretty. - Clubs which have expressed preliminary commitment to sponsor a team in this summer's series include: Buccaneer's Sailing Federation Flapjack's Marina and Yacht Club Kazenojin Seiringu Mowry Bay Yacht Club Starboards Yacht Club Vagabonds Yacht Club Feel free to IM the SLSF Cup committee with any questions: Al Kaiser, Myrrh Massiel, or Oliphant Ming. See you on the water!

Terms Of Challenge

SUMMER 2006 SECOND LIFE SAILING FEDERATION CUP TERMS OF CHALLENGE
INTRODUCTION, PURPOSE, AND INTENT These Terms of Challenge are issued by the Summer 2006 SLSF Cup Committee under the authority of the Second Life Sailing Federation Cup Deed of Gift. They detail the conditions under which Challengers may compete in Summer 2006 SLSF Cup series. By filing the attached Notice of Challenge, a Challenger agrees to respect in good faith these Terms along with the concurrently issued Protocol and Class Rule.
The Summer 2006 SLSF Cup Committee consists of Al Kaiser, Myrrh Massiel, and Oliphant Ming.
QUALIFICATIONS Challengers consist of Teams sponsored by any Active Sailing Club, defined as follows:
*The Active Sailing Club must be registered as a group within Second Life. *The Active Sailing Club must recognise a Home Venue. Home Venues need not be under Club ownership, but must facilitate a navigable course of at least 500 meters total length, including a functional SLSF start line and a publicly accessible res area with an autoreturn no less than 60 minutes. *The Active Sailing Club must agree to host at least six Public Regattas over the next six months, encouraged but not required to be set at its Home Venue. Public Regattas are open to all Second Life residents for participation, and must be posted at least one week in advance to both the in-world Events Calendar and the SLSF Forum 'Upcoming Events' thread. Regatta structure and rules are at the Club's discretion; anything is acceptable as long as it meets the standard of public announcement and open participation.
*Teams consist of 2-4 crew, of which exactly two (one skipper and one tactician) are required to sail in any race. Crew may rotate between races or regattas at their own discretion, but the same skipper and tactician must sail for the duration of any single race. *Team selection is entirely at each sponsor Club's discretion. Clubs are encouraged but not required to host and publicise Team selection regattas at their Home Venues during the initial four weeks of the SLSF Cup series Team Trials. *Teams rosters are filed with each sponsor Club's Notice of Challenge, and remain fixed for the duration of the SLSF Cup series. Each Club may sponsor only one team, and each person may crew for only one team, no more. Roster changes due to extenuating circumstances may be considered upon appeal to the SLSF Cup Committee, whose decision on such matters is final.
*Challengers must not have been disqualified from the previous SLSF Cup series, unless otherwise determined by mutual consent of the SLSF Cup Committee.
TIME PERIOD TO CHALLENGE Challengers must file the attached Notice of Challenge no later than 11.59.59 PM SLT, Monday, July 10th, 2006:
*Notices of Challenge are filed by notecard given to any member of the SLSF Cup Committee. Challengers must also post their Notice of Challenge to the SLSF Forum 'Summer 2006 SLSF Cup' thread before the first Challenger Act. *Notice of Challenge notecards with modify permission, or with a creator other than the sponsor Club director, will not be accepted. Club directors should create a new notecard, paste their completed Notice of Challenge text therein, and assign it no-modify/yes-copy/yes-transfer permissions. The notecard should be titled 'Notice of Challenge - XXX', where XXX is the sponsor Club's two-to-four letter abbreviation; its 'description' field should include the sponsor Club's full name. If in doubt, ask questions and file early.
WITHDRAWAL OF CHALLENGE A Challenger may withdraw its challenge upon notice to the SLSF Cup Committee. Any Challenger withdrawing its challenge prior to elimination within the Summer 2006 SLSF Cup series is relieved of all obligations under these Terms, but forfeits its participation in the next SLSF Cup series.
REGATTA SCHEDULE All regatta times are tentative until formally announced by the SLSF Cup Committee. Specific race times, venues, and courses will be announced at least one week in advance of each event. Regattas will run until all scheduled races are completed in accordance with Protocol, and the SLSF Cup Committee may reschedule events and reassign venues or courses under extenuating circumstances.

The six Challenger Acts will rotate through each Challenger's Home Venue by random assignment, to be supplemented at the SLSF Cup Committee's discretion. The Challenger Cup and SLSF Cup will be held at neutral venues unaffiliated with any Challenger. Exact courses and wind will facilitate approximately ten minutes' expert sailing time, to be determined by the SLSF Cup Committee.
WATER SPACE For the duration of any event, spectators shall be restricted to areas designated by the Course Committee. Access to the course is limited to the Race Committee and Challengers only:
*Challengers on the course may include two racing crew, and up to two non-racing crew, in that priority. The Course Committee may restrict access to racers only, in which case non-racing crew must retire to the spectator area as designated by the Course Committee. *Under no circumstances may the Challenger's non-racing party be less than fifteen meters over the course ahead of any participating boats. Any interference with participating boats will be grounds for disqualification from the race, regatta, or series, at the Race Committee's discretion.
Each Challenger may have one SLSF Cup class boat (and associated attachments) on the course at a time, subject to Course Committee discretion. All other vehicles, objects, or attachments are forbidden.

Likewise, Challengers must facilitate the republication of any images, interviews, or other promotional material generated during the SLSF Cup series. *Enthusiastic, open, and accurate press communication is encouraged. Misrepresentation of the SLSF Cup series should be corrected at one's earliest opportunity. Grievous misrepresentation may subject a Challenger to disqualification, at the SLSF Cup Committee's sole discretion.
DISPUTE RESOLUTION AND ASSUMPTION OF OBLIGATIONS All related disputes not governed by the SLSF Cup Deed of Gift shall be subject to the sole authority of the SLSF Cup Committee.
Challengers agree to work with the SLSF Cup Committee to support hosting Challenger Acts at their Home Venues, including the prominent display of SLSF Cup series banners and sponsorboards during the regatta. Club directors must facilitate the adaptation of course and venue management tools, including start lines, windsetters, buoys, maps, and spectator reception.
Challengers, the event of winning the Challenger Cup, agree to prominently display it at their sponsor Club for the lifetime of the group. Custodianship may transfer to individual team members only in the event of the Club's dissolution.
In the event of winning the SLSF Cup, its champion Club agrees to abide by and facilitate the execution of its Deed of Gift, including Defending the Cup in good faith during the next SLSF Cup series. The SLSF Cup will be permanently inscribed with the date and name of its champion Club, who must set it on prominent public display with until it is unsuccessfully Defended, at which time it will be relocated to its new champion venue. In all cases ownership shall remain with a curator of the SLSF Cup Committee's choice, who reserves the right to remove and/or modify the Cup as required by future execution of its charter. SUMMER 2006 SECOND LIFE SAILING FEDERATION CUP PROTOCOL
INTRODUCTION, PURPOSE, AND INTENT Under the authority of the Second Life Sailing Federation Cup Deed of Gift, the Summer 2006 SLSF Cup Committee has agreed to this Protocol governing the SLSF Cup Challenge series. Its intent is is to encourage the proliferation of sailing enthusiasm across Second Life through friendly competition between sailing clubs, by orchestrating SL's premiere regatta series.
The Summer 2006 SLSF Cup Committee consists of Course Director Al Kaiser, Event Director Myrrh Massiel, and Race Director Oliphant Ming.
ACCEPTANCE OF CHALLENGES The SLSF Cup's inaugural season has been launched without a Defender or Challenger of Record, under the initiative of the SLSF Cup Committee.
Participation is governed by the Terms of Challenge. Clubs entitled to the right of Challenge may announce their intention to participate on the SLSF Forum 'Summer 2006 SLSF Cup' thread, prior to posting formal Notice of Challenge, for purposes of venue and sail number assignment.
SERIES FORMAT AND SCORING The Summer 2006 SLSF Cup regatta series is broken into the following phases:
TEAM TRIALS - Saturday, 10 June through Monday, 10 July Team Trials are a period of preliminary regattas hosted at each club's discretion. They have no bearing upon series standings, however Challengers are encouraged to use Team Trials to facilitate their crew selection process.
CHALLENGER ACT 1 - Saturday, 15 July, 12.00-2.00 PM SLT Mowry Bay Yacht Club - Mowry (161,214,27) - Course TBA CHALLENGER ACT 2 - Saturday, 22 July, 12.00-2.00 PM SLT Flappy's Marina and Yacht Club - Chong (180,77,21) - Course TBA CHALLENGER ACT 3 - Saturday, 29 July, 12.00-2.00 PM SLT Buccaneer's Sailing Federation - Christabel (134,62,21) - Course TBA CHALLENGER ACT 4 - Saturday, 05 August, 12.00-2.00 PM SLT Kazenojin Seiringu - ANWR (104,138,24) - Course TBA CHALLENGER ACT 5 - Saturday, 12 August, 12.00-2.00 PM SLT Starboards Yacht Club - Hollywood (96,149,25) - Course TBA CHALLENGER ACT 6 - Saturday, 19 August, 12.00-2.00 PM SLT Vagabonds Yacht Club - Sanchon (225,91,22) - Course TBA Challenger Acts are a series of fleet regattas, each consisting of six races, each race fielding one boat per Challenger.
Individual Challenger Act races are scored on a low-point system, with 0.75 points for first place and points equivalent to finishing position for each remaining place, per race. Did-not-finish (DNF), Did-not-start (DNS), and Disqualified (DSQ) races are awarded points equal to the total number of SLSF Cup Challengers, plus one.
Individual Challenger Act regattas are scored by summing each Challenger's best five races (one throwout), and ranking Challengers from lowest to highest total points. Ties are resolved according to the most recent individual race which both Challengers finished.
The overall Challenger Act series is scored on a high-point system, with first place for each Act regatta receiving series points equal to the total number of SLSF Cup Challengers, and last place scoring one series point. Series points from Acts 4-5 are weighted by a multiplier of 2, and Act 6 by a multiplier of 3. Series points are then summed, and Challengers are ranked from highest to lowest total series points. Ties are resolved according the the most recent individual race which both Challengers finished.
CHALLENGER CUP - Saturday and Sunday, 26-27 August, 12.00-3.00 PM SLT Venue and Course TBA The Challenger Cup is a match racing tournament broken into two stages, each race fielding one boat per matched Challenger.
The first day consists of match-racing round-robin pairing between all Challenger teams exactly once, with the winner of each match receiving two points. Added to this total are bonus points based upon the final Challenger Act series ranking, as follows: first place - 4 points, second place - 3 points, third place - 2 points, and 1 point for all remaining places. All Challengers are then ranked from highest to lowest total points, with ties resolved according to the most recent individual race which both Challengers finished.
The second day consists of single-elimination match racing amongst the top four Challengers, seeded in 1-3 / 2-4 pairings. Each match is decided as a first-to-win-three series, with the winner of the final match being awarded the Challenger Cup.
SLSF CUP - Saturday and Sunday, 2-3 September, 12.00-2.00 PM SLT Venue and Course TBA The Second Life Sailing Federation cup is a first-to-win-five series of match races between a Challenger and a Defender, each fielding one boat per race. The SLSF Cup's inaugural season, however, will be seeded as a rematch between between the top two Challenger Cup finalists.
The first day's races will proceed until one team wins three races, after which the second day's match will continue until one team has achieved five victories total. The winner will be awarded the SLSF Cup and assume the role of Defender for the next season.
RACING RULES AND SCHEDULE All SLSF Cup series regattas will operate under current International Sailing Federation Racing Rules of Sailing, with the following amendments:
*For purposes of right-of-way rulings, "damage" shall only consist of incidents which fuse prims, eject crew, lose the race wind, disrupt physics continuity, or impair the functionality of a boat's script sufficiently to require an object reset. *Spinnakers are prohibited prior to crossing the start line. The penalty for raising a spinnaker at any time between the two-minute warning and a boat's actual start is equivalent to colliding with a marker, one 360-degree turn. *Kedging, via edit or drag, is not permitted. The penalty is equivalent to colliding with a marker, one 360-degree turn. *Boats which moor after the start horn, intentionally or unintentionally, are permitted to to finish any particular race only if they retain the race wind, otherwise they must retire. *All starting boats must crew exactly one skipper and one tactician. Crew may rotate at their own discretion between individual races, however nobody other than the starting skipper and tactician may crew a boat at any point during a particular race.
Every SLSF Cup series race will announce a five-minute warning immediately following the completion of the previous race, followed by a two-minute warning at which the countdown timer is started. Match races will be conducted in pairs under the same race timer, with the start horn acting as the five-minute warning for the second match. Any racers finishing more than 100% after the time of an immediately preceding legal finish in the same race must retire, at which point their score will be recorded as DNF and the five-minute warning will be announced for the next race.
Every SLSF Cup series regatta shall commence with a Grand Sail, in which all series Challengers are encouraged to field a boat for each team member and sail one circuit of the designated course for the day. The Grand Sail is subject to the same timing and right-of-way rules as any SLSF Cup fleet race, however the Race Committee will neither score nor adjudicate its proceedings.
Only one boat may be fielded by any Challenger at a time, except during the Grand Sail or when changing skippers between the five-minute and two minute warning. Permitted boats and equipment are governed by the Class Rule.
EVENT AUTHORITY AND REGATTA MANAGEMENT Each event will be administered by Hosts and Security designated and managed by the Event Director. Regattas will be administered by a neutral Race Committee designated and managed by the Race Director. The Course Director retains final authority on course access and interpretation during an event.
DISPUTE RESOLUTION AND JURISDICTION Any protests not resolved on the water between racers may be filed with the Race Committee after the day's events have concluded, no sooner. Protests must be filed within four hours of a regatta's end, with all team members for the disputed Challenger given notice via IM within thirty minutes of the regatta's end. All protests which do not affect series standings will be dismissed.
Protests may only be filed by an injured party against a fouling boat. The Race Commitee has the sole authority to enforce missed marks, spinnaker usage, kedging, race wind, crew, or Class Rule violations, under penalty of disqualification if not redressed by an appropriate penalty turn on the course.
All other related disputes not governed by the SLSF Cup Deed of Gift shall be subject to the sole authority of the SLSF Cup Committee.

Request for admendment to Protocol
07-05-2006 10:48
Dear Myrrh, I would like to see a clarification to the SLSF Protocal, under EVENT AUTHORITY AND REGATTA MANAGEMENT: where in it says:
“Each event will be administered by Hosts and Security designated and managed by the Event Director. Regattas will be administered by a neutral Race Committee designated and managed by the Race Director. The Course Director retains final authority on course access and interpretation during an event.”
Especially since Mowry Bay is the site of the first Challenger Event I’m especially excited, feel privileged at being the first event YET concerned about my obligations and responsibilities. “Saxxie” has put this on my shoulders and I feel the weight of not wanting to let anyone down. I assume MBYC is the “Host” in this case but does that imply that we are obligated to “administer the Committee Boat” and effectively “run” the Challenge at our location? Or, (as I am hoping) we are only obligated to be the social host and that the actual down and dirty of running the race falls to the “SLSF governing body” (whoever that is)? Could you please amend the SLSF Protocal to clarify that point?
If the MBYC is expected to run the “Committee Boat” then I plead assistance from the broader sailing community for help as I feel we at Mowry Bay, although passionate about sailing, we are but a happy go lucky group and might not be up to the task (left only to our own devices) of doing justice to what I anticipate to be a very serious event.
Could you also clarify who the “Event Director" is, who the "Race Director” is as well as "Cource Director" is and how they are chosen? Thank you for your continued hard work at making this SLSF event something that we all are looking forward to

Event Responsibilities - Clarification
07-05-2006 15:49
Sorry about the confusion. From the Protocol's introduction: From: someone The Summer 2006 SLSF Cup Committee consists of Course Director Al Kaiser, Event Director Myrrh Massiel, and Race Director Oliphant Ming. So - you're talking to the event director. Basically, we'll handle everything, including staffing the event, producing promotional materials, running the races, and providing security. Individual clubs' responsibilites mostly boil down to providing the access required for us to do our job. From the Terms of Challenge obligations: From: someone Challengers agree to work with the SLSF Cup Committee to support hosting Challenger Acts at their Home Venues, including the prominent display of SLSF Cup series banners and sponsorboards during the regatta. Club directors must facilitate the adaptation of course and venue management tools, including start lines, windsetters, buoys, maps, and spectator reception. That's not to say that we won't welcome any extra help we can get, especially if club regulars would like to volunteer to serve as event hosts or race committee. Oli and myself will be making major recruitment pushes next week. For planning purposes, I really don't expect the Challenger Acts to draw a larger crowd than the usual club regattas, but we'll get a better feel as the series proceeds.

From: Myrrh Massiel Wind will retain its Linden settings. For those of you (like me) who didn't know that the Lindens have a windsetter at Mowry Bay, this does not mean we will be using the flaky as all hell SL Wind. We will be using a Linden-owned windsetter with opaque settings.

From: Myrrh Massiel SAIL NUMBERS All Challengers are issued sail numbers to be used for the duration of the SLSF Cup series: As these great sails were made specifically for the event by Suzanne on a volunteer basis and took a considerable amount of time, I suggest they be honored by not being flown for other than the race. Though I bet that, if you really want to fly them at other times, Suzanne would be honored to arrange to sell them to you.

Challenger Act 3 - Course Announcement
07-24-2006 22:26
Vagabonds Yacht Club hosts Challenger Act 3, this upcoming Saturday, July 29, from 12.00-2.00 PM SLT. We will sail a variant of the Medium Course outlined in VYC's instruction notecard available at the teleport landing point. On the return leg toward Sanchon, we will instead make a switchback around the port-side (red) buoy in the southeast corner of Haengbok, back out around the southern sandbar in Banpo a second time, and finally back to the finish line in Sanchon per the usual Medium Course. A detailed course map will be posted tomorrow night. Wind will retain its current settings of Dir 335+-38, Spd 12+-3, Rate 1.
