I'd like to see more in the profile area. A place for more pictures would be nice. Quotes seem like a good idea. I don't know about last time logged on, that's almost a privacy thing, what if people don't want you to know when they've been on? You are only added to someone's friend list if invited. I think giving out too much information is taking away from that feature. Or maybe put a box on there to check if you want certain things made available to everyone.
The rating system, from what I understand it really doesn't mean anything anymore. From what I've seen since I've been in the game, some people who have businesses have higher ratings for their work, which is good to see if you're looking to buy something from them. But at the same time, I've seen escorts, dancers, (not that there's anything wrong with those jobs, before anyone sends hate mail LOL) but their ratings are high for the things they may or may not do in their area of choice. What good are the ratings other than making money (and not to the person who is actually being rated)?

From: Areth Gall One good thing about the account type in a person's profile, is that if someone asks to borrow 500L citing that they are broke, and tells you that they will give you the money back on their next stipend.. well, If they are basic, you'll probably want to ask how instead of giving the 500L. -coughs- YES! I have also proposed this data be made available through LSL.

Thanx for your suggestions, each and everyone. Just an anecdote here: I remember when I started my Second Life, ratings were L$1 a pop (hard to imagine now) and were given out freely. There were illegal happenings, called "rating parties", where avatars would bunch together in a circle and give +3 to each other. Sometimes they showed up on the Events (and were easier to spot because of many less events in those days) and were quickly cracked down on. So, they're kind of an antique. I stare at my ratings panel and I believe it could be put to better use. Clearly I'm not the only one, and I draw a lot of Resident influence. Some have even suggested such a simple thing as: make your 2nd Life profile text area bigger so you can see the whole thing without scrolling so much! BTW, what Dyne was asking about... there used to be an "Add Landmark" button in profile picks. Yes, there's a blank space there which looks uncomfy. I do not know why it was taken out, but I have requested that it be added back in... due to Resident asking and general usefulness. It disappeared around 1.6, I think--and has been gone ever since. Wish we could add landmarks without having to TP to the actual place. Helps when I'm doing something called a gammachain, which includes building up a very large repository queue of landmarks to visit.

How about a global "Note" area that everyone can edit like a forum or wiki? Or maybe just add a link to a wiki page for each acount.
How about a SL credit history and credit score for banks to use?
I was going to ask for a way to have groups have a seperate "Note" field for that av, however that would be more likey to be used to blacklist people and thus the owner would have to have the ability to read it. I hate when people get mad at me and then won't tell me why.

Dunno if it's been said, but the ratings area could be used to leave comments on a person instead? They'd be filtered for profanity (if there is any then it would be visible only if a 'mature' checkbox were selected). It would be interesting because you can then hear what people think about you and why. If someone has had a 'ratings party' then it'd be easier to tell because the comments would be much the same and not very informative. It also wouldn't make much difference at all.
The comments would cost money to add, and you can only comment on someone once (if you try to comment again then it replaces your previous comment). It also says who commented so if you see a bad comment about a seller, then you can ask what the commenter's experience was in more detail.
I suppose it could still have a positive/negative option to summarise, and would likely only keep a hold of the last X comments, and keep track of the total 'score' they've given you for it.

As a very new resident I am finding that Profiles are a great source of ideas and links...see someone with amazing clothes or a great avatar, check their Picks. See a great house, check the owner's profile for links...
I would think it very useful to be able to "bookmark" favorite profiles. Some people have a lot of great things in their picks, and if I don't want to/have time to explore all of it in one game session I have to use a scrap of paper out of SL to remember to pick up the trail later.

Torley, Robin and I used to talk at lengtha bout the ratings system. Where in any unpoliced atmosphere there will always be abuse of a system in which one party can adversely affect another without consequence (Or at the cost of a dollar.) One of the ideas thrown about was to add the cost to make it less viable to neg rate any individual unnecessarily or as a form of griefing.
Given the value of the Linden dollar has become more valuable, people have been less careless with their rating. The irony of it is this: Now it's rarely used at all. People generally see ratings as a money sink, throwing away 25, 50 or 75 Lindens on a rating fetches trivial results so essentially not worth the effort, or the money.
I'd simply like to see this element of our profiles gone. It does absolutely nothing to indicate or define the individual you're dealing with. Discussed years ago was how opinions were subjective, and altercations were expected in a co-operative environment, and rarely warrented the neg ratings the few and far between disagreement fetched. People would get absolutely horrified seeing themselves neg rated over a sour moment with another citizen.
I think we need something to better define ourselves. Not sure where it was, perhaps in this very thread, I saw someone suggest allowing our friends a place to put comments. Now THAT would he beneficial, and it would give anyone reading more insight regarding the individual they're in the comapny of.
Warmly, Phay

From: Dyne Talamasca Isn't that what the date on the group member list is? That shows you when someone has been online, however, some groups have it set up to where the members don't show and you can only see the officers. Also, if you are friends, but not in the same groups you can't see the members last log in time, again only the officers.

adding friends
04-30-2006 17:41
i very much like the idea of having the ability to link to your friends on your page, like a pick. of course, you should allow the option of disabling your friends from linking to you, but really, i think it'd be fun to see who my friends are friends with. or just a FOAF list could be a great addition for meeting new and interesting SL folk.

No "last logged in date" please. Or if you do that, make it as an option to enable/disable. And make the "online" field (yes/no/unknown) working better than it does. (the status is almost always "unknown" I think i'm ok with the current profile panel. Oh, no. wait ... maybe a user-editable "status", like in many instant messaging software : - afk - busy - do not disturb - free for chat - working - ... And... why not an ingame resume / one-liner blog ?

This one occurred to me today...

A nice little arrow button set up in the corner or somewhere to click the profile through your friends list. *click* Arani. *Click* Amber's shows now. *Click *There's Bella.
As an aside, I don't need voice, as I have days where I physically cannot speak, or the wrong words come out aphasically (I mean to say "Where is the remote?" and I end up with "Blue bent open stop?", is a recent real eaxample), or I hesitate and pause and stammer neurologically. In my First Life, I am often told to open a notepad window when I need to convey something quickly. Voice would be one more way to make me feel like a third class cripple, really. Just my two cents.

Bigger Pictures
05-24-2006 21:25
I know a lot of ppl who make a living on SL by .. photography.. going into PS or PSP to make profile pics come to life.. With all the little pretty details.. they look wonderful when they are uploaded into SL and the pic is stretched.. soon as you put them into your profile.. everything is "Smooshed" together and looks like crap lol.. if the pics were bigger and easier to see.. the hard work in ps and psp would be seen more clearly down to every little detail.. So here is my vote for:
bigger pics.. and pretty colors other than the boring gray.. a hide online status option.. a no stalking button for those mappers guestbook and whatever other cool features you guys can think of..
its too late for me to rack my brain right now.. Im sleepy and cranky so gonna leave it at this lol goodnite

This one may be to difficult to ask....but how about the option to make these "upgrades" optional? Unless of course someone would like to contribute funds to the "Tyr's new computer" fund

Unless of course someone would like to contribute funds to the "Tyr's new computer" fund "Draco's New Computer Fund" is accepting donations as well (L$ and US$, possibly other currencies as well if absolutely nessesary). For each donation over US$50, I'll make a one of a kind gift (non US$ donations will be calculated per current closing exchange rates upon the date I recieve it and rounded up to the neares whole dollar).

From: Ordinal Malaprop The ability to create links to URLs that can be clicked on to launch without people having to cut and paste them into the browser, and that's it. This isn't myspace after all (thank goodness). Yes! A big button that says "my website" that someone can click on which opens up your site would be great.

talking with friends

how about a buton on friends profiles that would enable you to voice chat with them? Having it support upto 8 people. Would be a great addition to the worlds gather areas or club life.

Just wanted to shout out that I'm a new user (3 weeks), but my real life occupation is in the field of usability.
I'm getting more and more addicted every day to this place and would love to help improve it in any way I can. It's all so new to me still that I don't have any specific issues I'd like to see addressed, but I'm sure I will and am so grateful to have this forum for us to share ideas.
...what have I gotten myself into? lol

Public Griefer record
07-04-2006 16:19
What we need is a section that lists they amount of recorded public griefing on the front of their profile and if they get 3 strikes they are OUT OUT OUT!!!
This is a system that gives griefers the chance to redeem themselves, and also shows to the rest of the community who actually are the griefers. If they choose to do this then public exposure iwll soon isolate them.
Possibly add a tab to the land to ban all griefers with 2 strikes maybe?

1) RATINGS: I like rating but it’s outrageous that there is a cost to rate!!!!!!!!!!! Lidens you should be ASHAMED at your greed!!! But instead of a yes or no “this person is great” vs no comment, it should be on a 1 to 10 scale with the number shown as a weighted average of all votes. If a first impression of a person should change, of course you can change your vote for that person. It would give a much better reading of how that person is interacting with everyone and if they are obnoxious or a griefer then just seeing their low score number would kind of tell you that.
2) Want a blog type entry
3)Want Photo Album
4)Wanted expanded text for profile
5) I want last logged on but I agree that in some cases privacy is important and as some services give “block this user from seeing profile” there should be a way of doing that against stalkers
6) Account status I thought would be useless but I’ve found it helpful in identifying very aggressive males that like to pretend they are newbies when in fact (without credit card on file and used) they are probably stalkers just hiding in another/new avi. I find it helpful to know when this person was born and if they back up their identity with a credit card.

i think sl should have a voice server like There or are to many ppl afrade that ppl might acctually find out there either a guy playing a girl or a girl playing a guy or an under age child that dont belong into sl plus it helps more when ur trying to have events insted of sitting in a room in silence laughing at ur self think into it sl also make it only ppl that can hear u are ppl on ur friends list or features that would say allow all allow one allow friends allow none think into it would be alot better and well worth it
