....Might I make a small suggestion, perhaps something that would help solve a good portion of the problem?... DON'T SPEND MORE THAN YOU MAKE! Good grief people! At what point did we suddenly think it was alright to go into debt and then whine that the "government" was unfair for letting it get that way? There would be no issue with taxes if you had built below your means instead of over building. From day one I have never spent more than half of what I started with and it has taken me a LONG time to build up to what I have, however, I always walk around with money in my pocket and I own a good chunk of land with a well recognized building on it. I have never, NEVER had a negative income when taxes rolled around. Now, I'm miserable with figuring out money exactly in SL. I've never bothered to sit down and figure out exactly what is going out and what is coming in, figuring everything down to the dollar to make sure I have enough.. instead I just float on the side of caution and keep a large chunk of change around for taxes, then spend the little amount I get from rating and taxes each week... call it my fun money if you will. I've heard the argument that large structures are what draw new players to the game, that's all fine and good but when they get here and all they hear are the owners of those large structures belly aching over taxes I'm sure it drives them right back out. What does it boil down to? Don't think just because you managed to whip up the worlds largest castle complete with haunted dungeon and dragon infested moat, that you should get some sort of better treatment than those that decided to play it safe and build within their means. It all comes down to a bit of patience. Save THEN Spend. Frankly I don't think they should allow you to go into debt at all. Althought the situation is diferent in SL then it is in RL you still should not be allowed to spend far past your means and then cry for more. It's not allowed in RL and it shouldn't be allowed here. No more rewarding the whiney and impatient! Thank you. *She slaps the "Linden Supporter" sticker on her chest, climbs off her soap box and leaves.*

Y'all need to stop waving your dirty panties in public and reconcile your differences. I know a lot of people who have chosen not to support Americana because of your squabbling, which, even if done in jest, don't paint any attractive or flattering pictures. We acomplished what we set out to do ....recreate history and get the discussion going .....isnt that what the lindens asked for ? discuss ways to improve Second Life ? that is all that we have done........so if anyone doesnt want to support us for that ......well everyone is entiteled to their own opinion .and i do belive all the squabbles have been from outside parties not involved in any of this . If you read back thru the posts never did we ask for tax exemption. all we did was use history ,real life history as a basis for our theme .....to show that during long term planning ,that the current tax rates and ways of taxing would hurt the single person......now as a group we will NOT have any problems continuing on with our themed area You know the old saying United We Stand .....Divided We Fall? this is what we were talking about as single people owning land and builds it is tough .....but as a group we will stand and prosper .And its not only Americana that will prosper it will be all group builds .....we just happened to take the ball and run with it ..... Ps.....this isnt an attack on you David or anyone else personally ....so please dont take it that way .....Just wanted to get all this out in the open now that things have quieted down .....

Well by panty-waving I was referring to the very public quarrel you seem to be having with one of your members - perhaps former member - in this public forum. I was just making the comment that even if it is in jest it is being perceived in the wrong light. Darkwood and Kazenojin have had their setbacks and personality conflicts, too - but we never hear about those. As for the taxation issue, I was with you all - as were many others - when the taxes and stipends seemed unfair and capriciously applied. Since then almost all of us have seen our situations stabilized to the point where we don't have to scrutinize our accounts every day, but even so we are waiting patiently until 1.1 comes out, certain that the new provisions will be the fairest and best options for all residents. Rule Change Fallout The Kazenojin were using the 1000 dollar tax limit, with Linden permission. The sudden announcement that the limit will be removed with no real alternatives has had an enormous impact:
Kazenojin station is coming down.
A cheaper alternative will be built in its place and we hope that it will be something nice. But this would not have been necessary without the sudden changes to the rules leaving us very little time to react.
For us, it's too late for tea.

If we were really waving around our dirty panties, do you really think a) we'd do it so everyone can see it? and B) I would be poking fun at Jon, in an Obviously sarcastic fun tone, referrencing chicken droppings and finding him in the jungle? Doesn't sound like a serious quarrel to me. Jon is very dear to the people of Americana, he knows this. That's why we can mess with him, and we expect the same.
Our group is fallible, but it is also very strong. The tax debate has boomed, the lindens are aware of what their customers feel they need, and we are all enjoying ourselves. We had a few mishaps all events do, but what did we do wrong? Outside of using humor that obviously travels high above a small group of other people's heads? Crow

I can't believe I am still subscribed to this old thread! Yes the tax system changed in December of 2003 when everything moved to Real Money. Get in touch with Fleabite Beach, she is still around and is the most knowledgeable about the Revolution. America disbanded in October 2003 due to the fact that we who held the individual parcels found the burden too heavy. Everything was taxed in those days, the land one held, each prim rezzed was L$10, teleporting cost L$, light also. All that changed in December 2003 when paying tier to LL was charged in US$.

The system has changed DRASTICLY. I'm not entirely sure it was due to any type of protest though. I think it changed simply with the changing features and direction of SL.
