And to clarify, I was just being silly, not making a shot. I consider SL's variety one of its strengths, and I for one am not going to go ballistic because people decide to show some virtual skin.

However, there is a large gap in the back of the Vogue buildilng, which may warrant a Maxx Monde critique. Heh.

Jack.. I applaud your passion for this subject, but, as someone who is equally, if not moreso, passionate about this issue, I must respond.

You imply that people who strip for money or who sell sex for money do it for 2 reasons: 1. they have no other option, and 2. they are forced to.

While I'm sure there are alot of instances where this may be the case, there are also alot more where this is *not* the case. I have friends who are strippers and love what they do. They do not strip because thier pimp daddy made them. They do not strip because they are uneducated and have no other alternative. They strip because they love providing that particular kind of entertainment for people.

I also have friends who *gasp* sell sex. They also, do not sell it because they are forced to or have no other alternative.. actually the people I know do it as a 'second' job. They have fun, and make lots of money at the same time, all while providing a service that is older than modern history. A service that people line up for.

I think it is sad that your personal crusade is to make the world a better place so that people don't have to have a job that you find objectionable.

There are a ton of other, much more worthy causes out there Jack. How about the 40 million people who have HIV... how about the millions of starving children... how about the global warming, which America contributes much more than our fair share to.. the list could go on.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I get very tired of people implying that strippers and sex workers are dirty people.. something less than equal.

Yeah Juro I know there are people who enjoy doing it for money. Someday I hope they can do it all they want. For free. My "crusade" is for a moneyless society. Until then, out of respect for people forced into the profession, I naturally find it gross. How I express that is by ranting in letters to the editor where comments are invited. Don't applaud me for being a lazy mouthy guy who posts in forums instead of running for mayor and learning to be articulate. I suck, what can I say....

Whoa man , are you serious? This has got to be one of the most messed up things I personally have read in quite a while.

LOL I mean I can understand your argument about maybe all strippers aren't dirty selfish people , but people who sell their bodies physically for money .. how is this a good thing?

Prostitution can lead to the spreading of disease , rape , unintended pregnancy , and not to mention it is illegal. How can any intelligent person choose this as what you make out to sound like a casual 'second job' .. I'm sorry man but I seriously tried and can not find anything beneficial about being a prostitute. Providing a community service is how you are trying to portray prostitution.

I was married to a stripper and I also dated an escort for a period of time , I know the scene. I don't agree with your stripper view either but I see your argument on a look and don't touch enviroment.

Actually, that is not true. In Nevada, where prostitution is legal, except for Clark and Washoe counties, they have one of the lowest rates of sexual crimes against women (per capita). In addition, all of the men are required by law to wear a condom. Security is also required.

With that, in areas where prostitution is legal, your argument holds no water. However, in areas of the country where we have laws forbidding prostitution, some of what you mention does occur.

Those laws, I feel, are antiquated, unreal, discrminatory, and just plain stupid. The *only* way for the government to have any control (i.e. regulation as Nevada does on its sex industry) is to make it LEGAL. Did they learn nothing from prohibition?

Also, food for thought: It is LEGAL to get paid to have sex w/someone providing you are photographed or video taped. How ridiculous is that?

*standing ovation* Laws regulating the sex industry have nothing to do with public health and safety and everything to do with religious dogma. Another example of legislated morality that does more harm than good.

The only thing I find insulting about this whole thread, is the issue that real life gender has anything to do with anything. I don't care, personally.

If they only hired real, actual females, then they wouldn't have any dancers at all. Not because the dancers they have now are or are not women, but because they can't find that out without knowing them in real life. I think puzzling over people's gender is an encroachment on their personal, REAL lives. You're free to use and misuse your freedom of speech, of course, as are we all.

I know some people think they can tell just by chatting with someone, and I know about 6 or 7 'red flags' that I won't list here because some people would definitely see it as an insult. That is because, there is NO red flag that counts as proof. You can't have proof in this environment.

They can be horny lipstick lesbians who're into guns, fighting, and female anatomy, and their players can be female.

So, all I want to say is that a man playing a woman, or a woman playing a man, could run a strip club just as well if they had a sound business model. The Vogue had(or has?) a very good business model, I know the last time I was around it was a very pleasant experience aside from a few individuals, and personally I don't consider anything about it to be shady. It's fake money, they aren't financing a speed habit, so they're only doing what they WANT to do.

If someone wanted to start the 'Boi Box' across the street from the Vogue and followed the same business model and sound architectural theory, I trust from what i've read that they wouldn't do too badly either. ;) And it wouldn't matter whether a man or woman was running it.

As for my first post on here, the 'p.s' particularly, it remains my belief that it was the truth. However, unwanted female-to-female solicitations are not unique to ANY place in SL. That a strip club might attract more of these advances was true in my experience. That doesn't mean they were always unwanted, but if a girl doesn't want to run into that she deserves fair warning. The Lily Theater hasn't had the same problem in my experience but logic would dictate that it's possible. Nothing wrong with that.

I know the employees of the Vogue are a very mature lot, and I doubt they would make any unwanted advances to anyone. I don't even know their sexual preferences, i'm really not that close.

Edit: Post modified to protect the mostly-innocent, and to give less fuel for people to take this completely off-topic.

Are we going to get custom anims?

Because that would be cool!

Ok! I think it's silly, laughable, and in a word, dorky. ;)

Now to back it up.

There's only so much you can do in SL. Limited dance moves, just pressing some keys in time to the music, boring. I just cannot understand at all why you would pay someone to do it. Of course, I come from a text-based background of MUSHes and such, where you can actually get some writing skills and talent into it, and truly vary it each time. It's just not the same here, it's just silly. Kind of like what I've seen people do in DAoC with some of the emotes, but with music.

Woo.

So here's to custom anims, when some talent will really be able to show through. I look forward to seeing what people can do with those... when we finally get them.

You'd be suprised how those 'limited combinations' can be applied....I'd say more, but then I'd be incriminating myself, or something..

I can see the point if it were real womens bodies, I'll give you that.

But virtual bodies??? are you kidding me? If we could create monsters instead of human forms, and someone would pay them to run around buff, would that be gross (other than the obvious grossness of naked monsters)? No you are just dragging your real world hangups into SL, where they don't belong at all. Virtual bodies aren't real, women aren't forced to strip to feed themselves here. Its not gross.

For some reason I have always thought of SL as nothing more than "Barbies for grownups"... and somehow that makes this whole dancing thing that much more odd... or normal.. I'm still not sure, but either way I keep having the phrase "Hey baby, nice polygons" pop into my head. *shrug*

Bwahahaha... Funny, Siobahn. At least, if you meant 'snowball' in the context I THINK you meant it.

Then again, my mind might just be in the gutter.

It's ok Siobhan. 'Snowball' has a specialised meaning in the pornography trade - he wasn't referring to any comments you or Julia made.

Ok, I have been reading this thread for a while now and watching it grow and grow.
Those of you that know me know that I am a dancer at Club Elite (and if you didn't know that you do now). I have no problem what so ever getting naked, and if people choose to give me money to watch me dance who am I to object. I personally find nothing wrong with what I do. I have fun and I hope that everyone else around me is having fun also.
I came here to sl to get away from the real world and every day life and to do and try things that I ordinarily would not do.
I do not find anything wrong with dancing for money, if you don't like it, no one is making you hit the pay button on your screen. And furthermore no one is making you watch :)
I think some people are just putting to much into this. There are people in rl that don't like "private dancers" and I tell them if they have a problem with it don't watch. I say that to you here as well. If you have a problem with it Don't Watch.
But if you don't have a problem with it come see me lol.
