You know, I imagine if Residents started calling SL's world by another name, Metaland, Avalon, Bob's Big World, whatever, and enough of them did it, that would pretty much become SL's official unofficial name.

Just saying, ya know?

You could always call it by what it was initially called before it got changed to Second Life:

Linden World.

Bye bye for now,

Sepharad is the Aramaic word for "furthermost limits" or "farthest reaches".

A Linden spotted me building a drill once and commented that there wasn't another side to Lindenworld you could dig to. I think that's the planet's name.

It was confusing for a while, since there used to be an amusment park in world with the same name. XD

I could have sworn I'd been told that the planet is called Lindenworld. Of course, that was a couple a years ago.

I think the fact that there was a short-lived amusement park of that name doesn't really matter. It may have accounted for why the Lindens stopped calling this Lindenworld - hoping to avoid confusion - but the park is gone, and there’s no reason not to go back to the tradition.

Lindenworld. That's what I've always called it.

Cale: I think I'll call it ... Bob.
Akima: You can't call a planet "Bob."
Cale: So now you're the boss. You're the King of Bob.
Akima: Can't we just call it "Earth"?
Cale: No one said you have to live on Bob.
Akima: I'm never calling it that.

Hello all.

The name for our world evolved over many generations of residents till it became the Esselle we know and love, when its not offline, today. Stop by The Esselle Museum and check out the facts (well sorta the facts!). Dozens of exhibits (in story form) chronicling Esselle's history await you. We guarantee there's nothing else like it and Bill and I would love to meet you.

Esselle!

Oh yes, you must come see the Esselle Museum to learn the fascinating history of SL. I frequented Bill and Fiona's Hysterical Museums in TSO and was always rolling with laughter. Great dry British wit ;)

It's called "The Grid".

I hearily endorse this product and/or service.

The Grid's nickname, of course, is Pecan Pie.

Esselle! I think it is charming and elegant. And still has a strong connection to the world. It is brilliant. Esselle has my full support.

Thank you Frans. As you might know the original name given to these islands by the Celts, was "Ethèl" (the land of fruit and vegetables) and it remained so until the early 1800's.

It was only after the arrival of the emigré nobility, fleeing the Revolution in France, that the name was changed. Henri Lachuze, following on the heels of Laffitte, brought the Lumieres, the LaFollettes, Richelieus etc. to settle and they joined forces with the Acadian families, the Pasteurs, Therians etc. who were already here. The French brought new fashions and wine technology while the Cajuns brought better food and music. The resulting influence ensured them victory at the Minor Name Change Update referendum of 1815.

Esselle...

I like the idea of Esselle.
The French sounding is also a good idea!

But it's sooo much like "aisselle", which in French means "armpit".

Do you like the idea that we all live in an armpit? ;-)
