Wow, Rachel, that worked! I cannot believe it but it does and I do not have a clue why.
So the next question is how to get it to work without having two accounts and having to log in and log out. I even resize the window back to the size i had before, no problem. _____________________

I even resize the window back to the size i had before, no problem. Under System Preferences - Accounts - Login Options, you can set Fast User Switching. Then you can have both user accounts open at once, and switch quickly between them. I don't have a clue why it works either. |

Add me to the long list of Mac users who can't access SL at all anymore.
![]() I am on a MacBook Pro OX 10.4.8. Tried downloading from the site, tried restarting, etc. Randomly being blocked from SL makes it a little difficult to make plans and attend events inworld. This has to stop. We should at least be able to roll back to the previous version or something. If I get desperate, I may try the user-switching fix mentioned above, but this is not an acceptable solution for regular use. (Especially since I don't have any other users created on this computer, this is a real pain.) It's getting so I have to plan for a half hour of troubleshooting before any scheduled meeting in SL. |

A short-term fix
10-30-2006 12:56
I found a post on another thread suggesting to delete the files in ~user/Library/Application Support/SecondLife/cache and it worked!
I'll add this to my list of tricks to try next time it doesn't work. |

Hey folks.
We're testing a new viewer with a bunch of fixes now. We're really, REALLY interested in hearing from users who are still crashing even after trying the workarounds and the test viewer I mentioned above. We'd love to hear about any fresh crashes - yes, we get the crash reports, but it's also Here's the latest list of workarounds:
If you've tried these, and you've tried the viewer posted above, and you still crash, please (1) try again just to make sure we get a copy of the crash reports dated today, (2) comment in the crash report on which workarounds you've tried, and (3) email me directly at josh@lindenlab.com |

I use imac OS X 10.4.8 all the latest soft ware, since the new release, it crashes constantly. there is horrendous lag. Packet loss. rezzing problems.
I managed to down load the new client. but it has never run as poorly as it is now. The problem is that there are no mac OS X specialists working at LL, most of not all Lindens are windows users/programers with limited mac OS X systems knowledge. What LL needs badly is a team of mac OS X specialists to program mac OS X clients. |

Just to add to the data collection on systems...
My Mac is running this client OK since it was released. OS : 10.4.8 CPU: Dual G5 2.5Ghz PowerMac RAM: 2Gb Video card: ATI X800XT 256Mb Colour depth: Millions, in windowed mode on a 1280x1024 display SL installed in Applications folder Packet loss and rezzing issues are very noticeable as well as client GUI itself being also 'laggy' on selecting things, but this has been the case for months now. |

Same problems
10-31-2006 12:50
I am also having the same trouble even after trying the workarounds. I tried creating a new user account and that got me to a black screen instead of a white screen, but it still crashed after a few seconds.
Here is my system info Mac OS X 10.4.8 2GHz Intel Core Duo 2GB SDRAM |

Here is my system info Mac OS X 10.4.8 2GHz Intel Core Duo 2GB SDRAM I've had more problems with the Mac client in the past than I care to mention. However, since I upgraded to the Radeon X1900 card, I have had no problems. All releases from early September on now have worked perfect on my machine. Shocking, I know. I could never get the Nvidia 7300 card to work right with SL though... Mac Pro 2.66 4GB RAM Radeon x1900 Two apple cinema displays.. a 23" and a 20" at millions of colors (why use less?) |

I Tried Rachel's suggestion and made a new OSX user log in account and it worked....but why??? (Thanks Rachel ![]() |

Im starting to get upset
11-02-2006 13:44
Rachel did you delete the file under : users/username//library/application support/secondlife/
then.... delete second life program....in you application folder(or where ever you saved it) and now reinstall 1.12.3.4 That is what i did to at least get SL running under a second account, as you suggested earlier. Buy the way there latest update 1.12.3.6..also caused the program to crash under BOTH ACCOUNTS!!! There was no fix here for me either !!! I tried reinstalling 1.12.3.4, but now it crashes as well, in all user accounts. It's been over a week now, and still no fix: all they've done is make the problem worse. |

We are getting a very small number of crash-on-startup reports from Mac users, although it does appear that we've addressed most of the problems. We're trying to track down the cause of the remaining issues.
It's possible (just a hunch, really) that some (but not most) might be caused by having some incompatible browser plugins. To test this, temporarily any remove files from /Users/<username>/Library/Internet Plug-ins (and/or /Library/Internet Plug-ins, but some of those are supplied with the OS so definitely put them back), then try Second Life again. If this improves things, put the plug-ins back one at a time and retry Second Life. If this works, please share your findings. Please post here if you happen to find any other workarounds for these issues - we'd appreciate the help. |

Multiple Mac Crashes (not on startup)
11-02-2006 19:28
I'm a new user, and have the latest software ... but I can't be in SL for more than 15 mins without it freezing permanently with the spinning rainbow-ball cursor. Is this typical? Am I doing something wrong? I have Mac G5.

I have an iMac 24" duo 2 core intel, NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT graphics card. Im able to play it although i get countless freezes when turning, or when moving to view things. if i had less ram in the machine id expect the computer would appear to freeze for ever... for the moment it just freezes the whole computer for about 1 minute or 2 before regaining control. This does not happen with my Macbook, it just plays really slow and at poor framerate with that due to the bad grphics card.
The annoying thing is two updates ago it was working perfectly. i was excited to actually own a mac that could play SL perfectly.. and now its as difficult as its had always been....I also get alot of packet loss compared to what i used to get. I might ad that the update that broke SL came out around the same time as osx 10.4.8. Good luck Lindens in trying to fix this mess, must be hard getting this hectic code to work on all the different mac configurations.... |
