Think we should keep running the game and flood them with crash reports till they fix it since their not stating anything on their blog or here on the boards

Have you guys tried making sure you installed SL in the applications folder? That's what it said to do on the linden blog. It didn't work for me though. Still crashing upon startup.
Here's my computer's stats: MacBook Pro Mac OSX 10.4.8 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 2 GB RAM ATI Radeon X1600 (256 mb vram) _____________________

I can't get the client to install, never mind run. Here I was SO excited that I could finally make some skins since 'save as' was supposed to be fixed and now I can't even instlall the game. I have a 1 year old iMac which has never had installation problems and considering that I have only512 ram, performance has been pretty good too. I tried to install about 3 times so far, the first two times it was running so slow that I thought something had to be wrong. On the last install, it finally finished after a bout a half hour, but failed to mount. Normally, it takes a max of 5 minutes for it to install.

I just tried repairing disk permissions. That didn't work. I also tried the fsck -f thinger, when you reboot and hold down apple S. No go.

I just went back and edited my post, adding the version OS X I am running I suggest others do the same...
The variety of processors working and not working seems to rule out hardware. It might be a good idea to list the video card too. _____________________

i had the same thing, very slow download when i chose to update after logging in with the old SL client. i quit the updater download and went to the website to download the new version. it downloaded much faster but for no point. now i can't even get sign on because it keeps crashing. could it be a problem that i quit the updater download and just downloaded from the SL website, or should it make a difference?

The update downloaded without a hitch or glitch, Apart from increased packet loss and an occasional failed teleport (problems that do not seem to be confined to Mac-ers), everything's going well. I've even raised my draw dstance to 70 without a problem (ironic Woohoo).
![]() SL is in my Applications folder - where it's always been. As for running it from a .dmg file - why would anyone? iMac G5, 1.6GHz (Power PC) 512 Mb RAM OSX 10.4.8 GeForce FX 5200 64Mb VRAM |

has anyone tried to delete their preference files? that might help Yup. But it didn't help. I did talk to someone in SL support though. They admit that the problem is not coming from trying to run from a .dmg (Like anyone would), but can't offer any solutions yet. They did request I send a support request, (http://secondlife.com/community/support.php) detailing the problem, so that they can get more info on what exactly is happening. Perhaps the rest of you could do so as well. Not exactly good news, but at least they're aware of us. |

If there's anyone who's running into this issue, and will be online on 2006-10-25 from 5:30pm (i.e. now) to 6:30pm Pacific/SLT and is willing to download a custom viewer to help us diagnose this problem, please contact me at josh@lindenlab.com.
(And for the record, I am one of those imaginary people that normally ran preview builds out of the DMG, so I was hitting a crash on startup due to that.) |

the mac client is working for me now
10-25-2006 17:36
The mac client is working for me now. I switched to millions of colors. I normaly keep my three montiors at thousands of colors, but I thought it could be the color depth, since half of every mac client out there seem to crash on load. (1.8 dual g5 powerpc, maxos10.3.9, ati X800 XT & ati 9200 mac edition)
