Ahh, i see now. Guess i've been a bit of a hermit when it came to this matter in the past... i was under the assumption this was something that chance accidently released in the general forum for scripting library use and was something new.

So i guess in retrospect... we could release a script that could scan a sim looking for these things... IM the owners as to their whereabouts and what they do so that they know (because i'm assuming things things are being spawned not all on Chance's land -- which would cause some issues).

Or if i'm wrong about these things still being spawned... chance, why don't you make all the scanners out there public/copy/mod or delete them if they serve no purpose?

its already been done with better much simpler and more efficient code. after all when making a map if you update a sim, once a day or two... with a single simple loop.. thats more than sufficient. There is no need for a map that updates once every 10 seconds.. and no that chance isn claimin big public plot releases, theres no need for a public land scanner that runs once every 10 seconds either

My concern as to why I posted originally in this thread was a concern that people who don't realize the new public land rules will put up a bunch of these in the sims and kill the sims. It's fine that he wanted to make this open source, I applaud him for it, but perhaps putting up a disclaimer saying that these scripts are pretty much useless now, and could possibly have other applications if someone can figure out how to, then I would have been fine with it. I didn't go after the other scanner because it's not NEARLY as large as Chance's and it was pointless to have anyways. People see the "infamous" acidic flight script, and think they can use it to get land, and all they end up doing is causing a bunch of lag in a sim, that's where the problem comes in. Sorry if you misunderstood me Sensual, but it's the truth.

First, this thread doesn't belong in the General Forums, it belongs in the Scripting forums.

Second, the offensive personal attacks in this thread have been deleted. Please refrain from personally attacking someone you don't agree with in the forums. These forums are for discussion and education about Second Life, and there is no need to attack those you don't agree with.

Third, the land scanners are no longer important anymore since land only goes public if someone clicks the "Release Land to Public" button - any other land goes directly to Governor Linden and is auctioned off. There are also plans to alter the "Release Land" feature in the future so that it too goes to the Governor.

I'm also locking this thread to prevent any further insanity.

Holy crap people. If it wasn't Chance's land scanner causing lag in your sim, it would have been XXX-strip-club-number-1435 with particles spewing out of the dancer's breasts.

I'm in the process of testing these scripts and so far, the Sim I'm in had an fps of 1700, right now it's down to 1500, which isn't that much compared to what these scripts do.

MOST of you people who HATE Chance for this are pissed because you didn't come up with it first.
