That's interresting... because on my island, I've moniitored it's stats, put out 5 scanners, and BARELY noticed any lag or resource usage... Interresting, ain't it?

Yes, I'm sure your analysis is totally uncolored by the fact that you've manufactured the SL-equivalent of sim-smallpox. Great achievement! You really should be proud. I think the real litmus test is how well you're accepted within the community.

If only a script could be written to address your inner rage and self-hatred :)

My code, uses less sim resources than 75% of the people wearing a shitload of jewlery.

That's interresting too.

well your code may indeed use less resources than the combined drain of 75% of the agents in a busy sim at a single given time, true. It uses far far more than any one or even five of them, and its running 24/7/365 hurting the simulators even when no-ones present.. for months at a time.. even with no land releases at all... just to line yer pockets with the meager dessicated remnants of a system you yourself brutally killed

Uhhh, how about some facts to back up these "fuck of crap" "statistics" you're quoting? Where did you test? Who did you test with? What kind of jewelry? Under what conditions? How did you eliminate variables to narrow it down to your damn scanners and the "shitload of jewelry"?

You suffer from severe diarrhea of the mouth, and until you back up your idiotic commentary, people will listen to you even less and less.

Greed is so easy to see.

If it was that long, I would've never found SL, LOL.

Thanks for the comments, I know you really care about my 'unit' and as such, I'll try to keep you informed if I write a scanner for one.

Enjoy the thread, I certainly am. :)

With all the people posting about the amount of exact resources this script uses it *must* mean they have performed experiments. While I am certain some of the people who posted here are just jumping on the bandwagon because it sounds cool to talk about lag inducing scripts, there has to be at least a few among you who wouldn't post unless it was based on solid fact. Soo... for those of us who use similar parallel script systems, we would love to have the numbers/results of your experiments. It would be a very valuable addition to the rather sparse pool of quantifiable knowledge about scripts and the lag they cause.

So, please post what experiments you guys did, and what the results were .. I would greatly appreciate it as it will help me & probably every other scripter in SL.

Let's have something positive come out of the thread!

if ya look to some of the tech or script forums theres alot there antagonistic... we've done running with the basic llFrand(1) within loops etc as well as object updates, listens, and many many other things to try an determine how things affect simulators. In general parallel works well up to a point, where the scheduler jus can no longer manage resources between the hundreds of scripts in a sim, at which point it begins to break down and things that only caused minor lag previously, begin to cause progressively more and more

aka the nth badly written script in a given sim tends to cause significantly more lag, than the n-m(th) one. In the case of this particular object tho its affect has been pretty clear, cyclical damaging loops of run tasks that jump it overall about .3-.5ms for a single object... thats pretty damn huge when you take entire other SIMS often have sub .3ms total, with hundreds of other objects

Taggy,

While its fairly obvious no one here has had a chance to test this code out in particular, some of the people replying are expert level when it comes to script analysis and sim performance.

I'd take their rational guestimates of how much lag is created over Chance's any day. Its fairly clear than any set of scripts that scans an entire sim in parallel ever 10 seconds... while own a mere 16 square meters... is hideous.

They are just people begging to attack Chance... He may not be perfect, and the scanners may have upset some people, but they were within his rights, and no where near bad enough to have so much hate.

Knowing little about the resources this uses - it just seems irresponsible at face value. But the more shocking thing I find is the total lack of respect for others that now covers these foums like a plague.

I started playing SL in 1.0 and was happy to tell people about the game and the community of 'nothing but nice people'. I honestly had trouble finding disrespectful folks in SL! What happened to those days?

Chance - what makes the nasty word-bile flow from your mouth? You posted something (in the wrong place) which people took issue with and instead of addressing their concerns you just made the forums stink of your farts! Is your need for attention that starved?

Please try to show some respect for others, the forums dont need to be choked with this nonsense.

just my 2 cents, and I am sorry if I offended anyone, just made me sick to read all this...

The only good thing I can see out of all of this is that its obvious that Chance is just begging for a perm-ban, and I'm fairly confident that the Lindens will oblige.

I don't need to back anything up. You're the one making claims that it's a resource eater, why don't you back that up?

Greed? That's funny... I'm the one giving land out for free... And if there was greed involved, I coulda made a shitload of L$ from SELLING the system, rahter than giving it out as open source.

LoL, I pitty you.

Don't get your hopes up.

I didn't initiate the attacks brought to this thread, I re-acted to them. So if a ban was performed, it would not be acted solely upon me.

Chance, you are the only one who used wholly unnapropriate language. If someone pushes you and you retaliate by shooting them, there are clear differences in degrees of severity.

You shouldn't excuse your abusive language by saying it was self-defense of some kind.
