Personally I think you are wrong. I think you have little to no evidence to support your supposition that Torley is here to placate us. She is passionate and knowledgeable about SL.

Exactly, which is why she makes a great addition to the Linden team. Not so much to placate us, in my opinion, as to try and spread her enthusiasm around a little, and to maybe get those of us who've gotten bitter and jaded about SL to regain a little of the wonder and passion we used to feel. Reawakening passion and enthusiasm in the midst of tricky times is a hard job, but if anybody can do it, Torley can.

Almost assuredly. But what person in their right mind would want to expose themselves to the shitstorm that expressing their frustration under their real name would start.

Which of course is precisely why Torley is employed in her current capacity...

Maybe a public forum isn't really the place to complain about someone's personality to begin with. An IM to Torley or to someone else at LL would have been more appropriate.

I know Torley is too nice to can a thread about herself, but where are the other res-mods?

Right here. Reading, aghast.

Edited to add: If Torley, who has been one of the most even-handed, open-minded, truly informed people with whom I have worked, has chosen not to close this thread, then I absolutely stand by her choice. She, of all people, can see the good that will come of it.

To the OP, :P

Meh.

The difference between Torley Torgeson and Torley Linden are this: The last name. Also, now Torley can post replies in the "Second Life Answers" forum.

This has always been the question/answer MO though, so it really doesn't surprise me one bit. Concise answers that actually make sense are something I feel is widely desired.

True. Straight answers would be refreshing.

But, on the whole, I prefer being ignored, bullshited. or misled to being smothered in rose petals, pink clouds and saccharine.

Really? I see it as one giant personal attack.

There are ways of expressing one's displeasure with something without making it personal. That takes a certain maturity level though. Calling someone "fucking sunshine Linden" is mean spirited and unecessary. Moridin could have made his point just as easily had he left that out. Nothing like posting as an alt when you want to behave like a jackass.

Wow. Try this…

IHOP 1 has has great customer service, where they smile and say “Hi, welcome to IHOP!” and then do try to placate you by saying, “I’m sorry, our waffle iron is broken today, would you like some pancakes instead?” or “Gee, y’know what, I don’t think our waffle iron is working today, let me ask someone else and look into it, or did you want pancakes?”…

Or IHOP 2, where as you walk in nobody is behind the counter, you have to seat yourself, and then about 30 minutes later someone runs up and says, “You’ll want the pancakes… Oh, nevermind why, just take the damned pancakes… Oh…, our waffle iron was stolen by pirates, but we’ll have this resolved in a week or two… or month or two… or whatever…”

Actually, if you go back to the start of the thread you'll see that no mention was made of Torley.

Torley herself assumed it referred to her. Quite why Torley would assume she was the 'fucking Sunshine Linden' in question I can't possibly imagine...

And in EITHER case, if it's an ongoing waffle iron issue that drags on month after month I start thinking about buying my waffles elsewhere :-)

The name of the game is service. But pouring concentrated Torley over issues isn't service. It's cynical bs in my opinion.

That's completely irrelevant. If you can't understand why using "fucking" as a prefix to describe anyone is offensive, then perhaps you need more time in finishing school.

Wouldn't a PM to the party that is offending you be the more appropiate and mature place to discuss this interpersonal matter?

Sure, if that's an option. I guess I just see it as… there's only one decent IHOP in town and it has gone from IHOP example 2 to IHOP example 1, and I see that as an improvement. Fixing the actual problem would be GREAT. And if a better IHOP opened up, then I’m sure most of us would be there. In the meanwhile, the one IHOP we’ve got that does have a waffle iron has us by the short and curlies, and still has a lot of room for improvement, but at least they’re being nice about it… ;P

I have yet to hear/read Torley say something that was misleading or dishonest…
