Prokofy,
Caveat emptor certainly applies to purchasing land in SL. It does not just imply "be careful because of fraud", it implys "be careful because you are making a significant purchase". It is a big ticket purchase for many players, and also has the potential to cost significant land fees.
Making a land purchase is not the same as buying some hair or a pair of shoes in SL. It is significantly more complex. There are a huge number of variables - what do you want the land for, how much do you need, is the land fair market value compared to other plots around it or similar plots in other comparable sims. It takes research and information.
Somehow I don't think the large land sellers are necessarily better to give advice to land purchasers. Any advice they give is in their own best interest - hardly the most objective source. To say that any advice from you, Anshe, etc.. would not have some level of bias is laughable. Granted, you will argue that it is purely unbiased, because shock of shocks, you are selling land. Objectivity is achieved through the opinions of a variety of sources - not sources that alone have a vested interest either for or against land purchasing.
Consumers who have land purchasing experience have just as valid of an opinion as those selling it, if not more so. Reviews of products are far more reliable than manufacturer's blurbs about their own products. To think that those selling land would give better advice than those who have purchased the land is delusional.

It's about seeing that SL changes all the time. Read my whole card advice. I am saying that this tendency to warn and hover and interfere with new people, treating them in a patronizing manner, is out of place. They should enter this transaction celebrating the fact that they have a wonderful privilege, $512 and free tier to buy land for $512 -- it will never repeat. Let them enjoy it instead of being fearful about it. From: someone Making a land purchase is not the same as buying some hair or a pair of shoes in SL. It is significantly more complex. Don't needlessly complexify it, just to make sure people buy their skins and shoes before they buy and sell their land. Buying and selling land is a natural, normal, healthy activity. It's like sex. No need to be prudish, instructive, and fearful about it, and no need to be so controlling and complex about it. It's just land. Buy it. Sell it. Make a profit. Get a bigger square. It's fun! I don't sell much land, so take or leave my advice, but the barons do sell a lot of land, and they can actually give you good advice about what is good or bad. Or course they are interested in selling land. But if you approach them from scratch, not specifically asking about a specific parcel, they can help you focus better on getting what you need, and they provide the service of helping you find what you need. Honestly, it is not the big, scary, horrible thing you think. From: someone Consumers who have land purchasing experience have just as valid of an opinion as those selling it, if not more so. I thought that they should consult those who *sell land for a living*. The cards should have input from a variety of sources, consumers and sellers. Why not? It's for the whole community. It's not a venue for such one group to flaunt itself and pump up its rep.

From: someone Bingo. She (not he, dear, she has admitted this openly in-world), is an attention whore. Excuse me, but Prokofy is he, not she. There is no "she has admitted this openly in world" as you imagine. This is fake and a lie. You're being Abuse-Reported.

CHOLOS POR VIDA!
Why am I not surprised that the most vicious, evil, hostile, and bloody caricature of my icon -- truly a breath-taking piece of gory savagery -- comes when I have challenged the greatest received wisdom that the FIC has ever purveyed in this game -- namely that land-owning is something to fear, and something only a select few should control -- and also challenged some of the most powerful and thuggish characters in this game. I think there's good there's a public record like this because it exposes that kind of criminality. I don't take you on for the attention value, or for some kind of sick masochism. I surely don't need that. I take you on to expose you. You do a good job of it all on your own. So that new people especially can see how you are, and draw their own conclusions. The people lurking on this list, and afraid to post are the ones drawing their own conclusions from your raucous behavior. and why? Because I said you can't run the game anymore, your ideas about land are crap, and those of you who think you run the land business will increasingly have to step aside, and not for me, but for thousands of others who will come in this game and hopefully ignore you, and perhaps mercifully be unaware even of your existence.

This thread is now horribly off-topic and no longer productive. Thus it will now be closed.
