nvm.

Point made.

Thanks for the mature responses, and to those with immature responses, you can enjoy your silly trolling without me as your bullseye.

;) So how is your business based on the name Hiro out of interest? Is it anymore than just being known to have been created by a Hiro?

Further, I do not wish to be associated with land baroning.

I only just noticed this upon re-reading. What makes you so high and mighty, and what I do so lowly that you wish have no association to it?

- something else (maybe check if Hiro has some group name?)

Thanks

Can we add Quesodia-Land to the option list? ;)

When you chose the name Hiro in the metaverse you must of realized it would be as common as Joe. Imagine if all the Joe's started to fight over Joe's Hotdogs, Joe's Deli, Joe's Pizza, etc...

That's Mr. Queso to you.
07-08-2005 11:25
Hiro won an auction bid on a lovely small mainland island that I had been bidding on. When the auction concluded and the names revealed me not to be a land dealer but someone looking to purchase a residence, he contacted me and sold it at his cost, no markup. I will think of Mr. Queso as Class Act regardless of any name bestowed upon him by others. Thanks for the opportunity to publicly acknowledge him without being off topic.

ps. Just don't call him late for dinner.

No confusion...

Disliking Hiroland as a name due to possible confusion with other Hiros, but preferring Quesoland, when there must be a lot more Quesos, seems a tad illogical to me....

Hiro Queso's type of landownership can hardly be called barony. The example that Margaret cited is very typical of his generosity and kindness.

Hiro Queso is renowned throughout the land to be fair, loyal to his friends (and tenants) and honest.

I don't think there is any danger of confusion.

Without taking sides at all on this issue, I would like to offer my own humble suggestion, should an alternate name be desired...

Thankyouverymuch

Hiro's - my shop in Varney - has been open for over a year.

I knowingly chose the name understanding it'd be popular, but at the same time, being the first person to set up a business using the name, I believe I have a right to the copyright.

If I were to make a character "Anshe" and start a business using the name, I would think more than likely Anshe Chung would object.

No disrespect to Hiro Queso - he seems like a nice enough fellow.

However, as an established business in Second Life predating Hiro Queso's character, and an advocate of copyright issues, I would like to keep the name that I established.

It's perfectly logical. Queso has, to my knowledge, not been established as a business name in SL yet.

This has nothing to do with the quality of Hiro Queso's service. This is strictly protecting my trademark.

I'm not high and mighty. I'm simply someone who established a trademark "Hiro" before you. When you chose "Hiroland" you did so without speaking to me first; you were well within your ability to ask me first.

Hiro, you in fact do have a right to your business name. If you do not have a copyright on the name anyone may use it, as I am sure you know.

If you had any other name for a shop do you think that you and only you can use it? Each and every Hiro in SL may use their name in the title of their business.

Why not get over this and go on and make your business the best in sl :) I can not believe the energy being put into this thread when it could best be used in a much more constructive way for all concerned.

I wish you the very best.

Alexa

Because I've been in SL longer, have a business by that name longer, have thousands of residents using my items, and am well known in the community.

I believe I am asking for my rights to be respected. I only have done this after learning about "Hiroland" recently. (sorry, I don't keep up with Land issues very much)

I realize this. They don't start fights over this because of locality. There is no national or even regional "Joe's" chain of stores / restaurants. "Papa John's" is a national pizza chain, with a common name, and I'm sure they protect their trademark.

What are you smoking? I should ask you? So you have a copyright on an avatars first name. That's just plain ridiculous. Two other things I need to point out -

I have not called my business 'Hiroland', it's the way others have referred to it. If I did want to, I would certainly not feel I was doing anything wrong to do so. And as for asking you first, well I am speechless lol.

When I asked you why you felt so high and mighty, it was in response to a quote which you have just edited out Hiro.

If you had a bussiness going by the name of 'Hiroland', I could completely understand. This, I find silly.

Not at all. I am claiming copyright on a business name, not an avatar name.

Yes, that's why I posted it in the economy forum, rather than seeking you out directly.

I got confused when you started responding as if it were your company name. Sorry about that confusion.

You didn't name your business that, so it's moot.

Yes, I said "baron" when referring to land reselling. I apologize if that word was taken the wrong way - "Land baroning" is the act of mass reselling land / renting land / etc. It should not have an inherent negative connotion; there are good land barons and land barons.

I edited it to prevent anyone else reading it to take it the wrong way.

No. If I made something called "Microsoftland" I'm sure Bill Gates wouldn't be too happy. The suffix is irrelevant.

But, since it's not your business name, don't worry, Hiro. This is a request to the community, in this case.
