This entire thread seems to be missing the key point that it's LL policy to encourage money-making without limit.

It's far more than just an approved passtime. It's how they measure their real success, which isn't given by subscriber numbers but by the degree to which SL looks like "serious business" in the online business community. Nothing could be sweeter to their ears than BusinessWeek publishing high-profile stories about US$ millions being earned in the unexplored lands of LL's virtual frontier.

To understand that, you need to place yourself in the shoes of the CEO, and ask yourself who are his peers. You measure your success by the reaction of your peers, not by anything else.

So L$ farming is here to stay.

Thank you for understanding Argent. Sweatshop countries should be given a server of their own. Atleast you understand.
I understand what you are saying. Do you understand what I'm saying?

Of course I do. What you are saying makes sense.

So you simply disagree with it?

Ok, Point by Point because I feel like picking your argument to the shreds that it deserves :

1. Camping chairs as a way of giving money to newbies doesn't work. A week and a half ago, I was a total newbie. I went for the idea and sat in them. The money I gained from it didn't even buy my first outfit.

Money Trees did that. So if you're looking to "give money to newbs", maybe you should set up a Money Tree instead. It limits the amount each newbie can get, and in addition, limits the pickup to being from people under 30 (or 60) days.

Or, better yet, put ads in the classifieds and GIVE JOBS TO NEWBIES. Belladonna will be doing this extensively, when I can get it up and running. I can't even imagine a better way to get newbies money than to give them a way to earn it and the training that will carry them later.

2. What exactly is a "sweatshop country"? Are you trying to claim that China, Korea, and Argentina (for example, not singling those out for any particular reason) are somehow the only places where sweatshops exist? Let me inform you otherwise: My own mother worked (in Vermont) for significantly less than minimum wage, at one point. The place did eventually get shut down, but she was in a sweatshop right here in the USA. My first husband's father came directly from Hong Kong. My current mate's parents (both of them) came over from China. Not one of them has ever worked in a "Chinese sweatshop", although my current mate's mother did work for little USD in a place in Taiwan for a while.

3. Paying Chinese workers 50 US cents a day (yes, I said US cents, that's exactly what is used in all those wonderful articles) is NOT sweatshop pricing. You know what that is (roughly) in Chinese dollars? Five bucks. Yep, 50 US cents will buy you a meal at McDonald's in China. 80 cents USD is darned good pay for the 18-21-year-old people who play games for a living for companies like IGE.

Yes, I've spoken to them. In their own language. Yes, they're usually 18-21 and in college or equivalent. They're well-spoken, very nice people who are working for a living and making one. And considering how much games usually charge (WoW for example is 150 USD a month, rough equivalent for the hours they'd play), these people can't afford to play the game any other way! If I were in their shoes, you can bet I'd be doing what they are.

Sorry, the sweatshop-farmers argument is a serious pet peeve, considering the reality.

4. The dwelling bonus is significant. Whether you know it or not, that was not put in so you could claim more traffic than you deserve. You want people to come see your place? Advertise it. You want people to look at your stores? Make sure they're high quality and TELL PEOPLE. Camping chairs are cheap, and by that I don't mean inexpensive.

5. Please get over the racism/nationalism/whateverism that leads you to think the words "Sweatshop countries" could possibly even remotely be acceptable. Segregation by server is still segregation.

6. Dictionaries are for winners. *grin*

1. Thats a great Idea. I will implement.

2. My apologies if I offended anyone outside of the US. I know for a fact that this happens in us. I have learned alot since I posted this and do understand that those countries deserve a chance. The problem is that I am not talking about Real Life Making Mikeys sneakers. I am talking about sweatshops that hold 20 putes and use it to sit on camping chairs to abuse.

3. I agree that they are very nice people its not their fault. How would you like to make 5 a day?

4. I am agreeing with you on this point.

5. I will let the people in the forums decide that.

6. I need one :)
