Moon Over Morris
12-21-2004 10:46
This struck me as a particularly eggregrious example of the bad moon and sun reflection display. By the way, what does eggregrious mean anyway?

e·gre·gious Audio pronunciation of "egregious" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-grjs, -j-s)
adj. Conspicuously bad or offensive. See Synonyms at flagrant. [From Latin gregius, outstanding : -, ex-, ex- + grex, greg-, herd; see ger- in Indo-European Roots.] Interestingly, you english speakers got the meaning backwards from the original latin... we retain it. In fact our national anthem here in portugal says that the voice of our "egregious forefathers" will lead us to victory... _____________________

A Reflection on Valentines Day in Ahern 2005
02-14-2005 23:22
Let's all take a moment to reflect on the meaning of Valentines Day.
... ... Now that that's done, I'll just note that incorrect reflections can cross region borders seamlessly; too bad one can't say the same for avatars riding vehicles. _____________________

The upside down moon today looked like a freaked-out horseshoe or even a defective pair of headphones.

Thanks for quoting the dictionary Eggy!

It's always good, when a word is misused or misspelled, for a thoughtful person to take the time to look the word up and correct the person who made the mistake. That's true whether it is the result of honest (and rather severe) error, as in my case with egregious, or in the case of a deliberate attempt to misrepresent the views of those you disagree with, such as, for example, saying that "Forum moderation is totalitarianism".
Maybe this will sink in, it may be a long time before I get to use the word again, no one around me in the real world would know what the word means anyway, so it wouldn't matter whether or how I said it at all. _____________________

The upside down moon today looked like a freaked-out horseshoe or even a defective pair of headphones. Someone asked me why the bat signal was in the sky! When I logged yesterday ( 14th Feb ) the upsidedown pink heart reflection was smack over my tree and looked like someone griefing the sim, took me a while to work out what was going on ! I agree, if we can't have a well worked reflection then let's have none at all. |

Someone asked me why the bat signal was in the sky! LOL... that's great. I believe there should be more random unique suns and moons throughout the years that make guest appearances, and get people doing double-takes. ![]() _____________________

Sue, I had that bug a few version back, it was fixed for me however somehow, definitly bug report it if you haven't already.
I personaly like the reflection of the sun and moon in the water, when they work properly. ![]() A toggle I wouldn't be against, since its all client side anyway. Something in the Debug under World would be perfect I think. _____________________

Aww, I actually like the moon and sun reflections. Ok with me if people want to be able to toggle them off on their own clients, however.
Foot shadows, on the other hand, are just plain silly. neko _____________________

The upside down moon today looked like a freaked-out horseshoe or even a defective pair of headphones. Hey you! ![]() So, it's been over two years since this thread's been started. Let's have a little looksee and see what's changed, hmmm? In 1.7, the sunmoon reflections no longer cut so inelegantly through terrain. Their appearance, along with the gradient of the skybox, has improved IMGO. I like it a more so I say THANKEE. Who else feels? Sadly... UGLY FOOT SHADOWS are still with us. So here's a bumpity-bump-bump and a tap on the rump to get this "feature" thrown over the hump! keyword: ugly foot shadows _____________________

Is there a vote on this yet? Hmmm.. maybe I should start one, lots of votes.. Mwahahahaha YES THERE IS! At least two: http://secondlife.com/vote/index.php?get_id=490 http://secondlife.com/vote/index.php?get_id=234 This is something that seems pretty easy to address with a little killswitch though, it's not like implementing Havok 2. We can already turn so many things on and off via Debug, why not this? So, part of it is in communication, I think, and openly—and hopefully nicely—expressing that we want to see UGLY FOOT SHADOWS BEGONE Tee hee hee. ![]() _____________________

It appears Torley is on some kinda 'forgotten feature requests' crusade today...

It appears Torley is on some kinda 'forgotten feature requests' crusade today... A Resident can only take it so long before she snaps and loses it, Kris. "Forgotten Feature Requests"... I like that. _____________________

Nice pics of the moon/sun over the land, you should try capturing some of them in 1.7

Standing atop my Pencil Tree in Balance, on the Preview Grid, I saw some rather funky foot shadows. On the whole, though, I'd rather have them than not have them. Plus, things that are absurd are good in many ways.
