Welcome to the first rule of Second Life - no good deed ever goes unpunished. There will always be someone to find fault and complain when someone tries to do something just to be nice. Don't let it get you down, and good luck with your forums. The more choice, the better.

Thank you! live and learn ehh lol

I've started some in-world kiosks to link to resident-run forums for Second Life. I was going to avoid forums that have no posts yet, but the general--shall we say--elitism (most polite word I could think of) displayed here has convinced me to go ahead and add SL-forums to the list.

I'm building an in-world forum in Atlas. Sure, its been done before. I'm doing it again.
Let me know if you have suggestions.

Thank you! sounds like a good idea and can probably be very useful for people.

A pure example of just why LL would kill these forums.....

Who gives a r@tz azz how long someone has been in world, I've seen people that have been in world a month or less that make some beta users look like crap....so peddle yer hate elsewhere.

Only a Tip from an another Net/web etc admin :

Dont use phpBB ;), that the Forum with the most bug/exploits/php infusion/sql infusion danger around.

Tip : SMF 1.1RC2

means : you dont need to apply mostly every week a new security fix when you dont use it.

Sorry missed this earlier was a busy Sunday and had to skip through the posts, anyway thank you for the tip, security is always an issue but the latest and greatest patches are there, will switch to 3.0 when it's ready. From what I see they seem pretty up to snuff ;) and the sub-merge theme is amazing!

oh well so much for logic ..........you know once your in th position of a parent then you understand. Othersize it fruitless explaining this to you.........

Ok, I'll step in here. Usagi, I AM a parent of a 10 year old boy. I am a responsible parent. I monitor what he watches on television, I monitor his radio, and I monitor his internet. Through our ISP I have parental controls. It tells Me where he's surfing, and if a site is not on an approved list, he can't go there. If there is a site he wants to see, he puts in a request and the ISP asks Me for permission. If it's something I feel that's safe for him, I let him there. Otherwise I don't.

I feel sorry for parents who feel it's other people's job to watch what their kids do. Those are the kids who end up being problems in society because their parents obviously don't care enough to do parenting on their own. My son ALWAYS has Me there to make sure he's being nurtured and guided properly to be a responsible member of society. I DON'T leave it in the hands of others, because as a parent, I can't trust others to be his dad. I only trust one person to be his dad....ME. No website operator is responsible for what he sees. I am. PERIOD.

Great job Johny, the forum looks really great. Hope all content creation people start posting there. I sincerely hope thou that you have two 55 gallon drums in your garage thou. One filled with aspirin and the other antacid. Some of the posts in just this one thread show just how bad a forum can get.

Thank you.

Thank you for the time and effort you've put into this. The site is nice and straightforward, easy to use, and I've signed up.

Having known people who have run or moderated (or list-mommed) forums, I'm not sure it says much for your sanity - but it IS appreciated. :)

LOL, another forum! Seems like that's all we see here these days! I guess that is because it only takes a day these days to set one up with all the free forums out there. Nevertheless - good luck with it!

How much work can it have been when 90% of your design is the default phpBB setup? Even the default template?
And, what kind of business plan do you have for the site? How are you going to pay for this long-term? I don't see any ads. Is it being run as a charity?

The default template is there for new users since it's easy to use and navigate through. once registered, users can select their own personal theme.

And yes it's beeing paid for as charity if that's what you'd like to call it, if in the future the load will require additional costs etc we might consider adds but not currently and probably not for a long time I hope.

Not to mention on the work end I can attest Johny has been putting in lots of time fielding PMs, looking for ideas to implement etc etc.
He has been putting in some hours in this. :)
