I just happen to know this man and be married to him. My husband is Sitting Lightcloud.

First of all, I would like to say that I did not know that he was going to go ahead and do this. He mentioned setting up new forum when he found out that the SL page was going down, but like alot of other brainstorms we have about SL, sometimes it just goes undone.

Much to my surprise, he did put it together, and just so happened to think that posting the info under an alt's name (which he plans on using for testing products inworld) was the way to do it-- To keep it 'nameless' and unrelated to a specific business or a person. He just showed me this thread this evening after I asked him why he was in a bad mood. Little did ~I~ know, eh?

************************************************************************

Now...ON to my rant....................I have read through the responses to this and I am really kind of disappointed in the NOOB responses. At what age, exactly, do you grow up enough to express yourself intellictually enough to use a word other than NOOB? To me, it's so childish...point blank.

The assumption that ANY forum wouldnt be 'reputable' because its run by someone NEW to SL blows my mind, and I have to say, disappoints me highly. Example: If I find a good product in world, do I care if its someone thats been in SL a long time before I purchase from them? No.. If its a good product, and beneficial or just plain ole cool, I buy it. The mindset that 'someone has to be established before buying from them' would really limit the ability for them to become successful, now wouldnt it? Where would we ALL be as SL creators if we werent acknowledged as creators, and given the business and the CHANCE to make things work in our favor? Thats called motivation, folks... that's why we are all there and continue to bust our asses to make things to keep SL a growing and interesting community.

The main factor that plays into all of this is exactly this- and no other............... People tend to relate sites and products w/ people. What he was trying to do was make it so that it was an open forum where people would feel comfortable using it for an alternative place to voice their opinions. NOT use it because it was some sort of popularity contest and so and so was manager or creator of it. He didnt want it related to "Sitting Lightcloud" or "Nytemyst Grace".. or even "Nyterave". Allowing those names to be related to it would (and does) sway people from using or not using the service. Perfect examples of this theory are in the comments on this thread. So and so has this forum-- this person or that person has that forum. *shakes head* I mean, who really gives a shit? lol ya know? if its a good service, and you are interested in it, then by all means, go for it. Don't use it because Jane Doe over there that owns such and such a place is one of the most popular places w/ the highest dwell in SL, and OH by all MEANS, I MUST be in the clique so ~I~ am popular, too! lol Don't you think that's a highschool mentality? Idunno about you, but ..Im past that.

As for the age limit..........He is a database admin for a computer consulting company and deals w/ laws and regulations on a daily basis, and knows more about the rules than I ever care to. This is what he does for a living, and I dont question his knowledge on this.

And speaking of age limits, lets talk about the influx of new SL citizens coming into game on the MG, not to mention the ones that are 'established SL citizens' w/ businesses. How many of these are kids under 18 hiding behind adult avies and accounts? (And as was stated in some of the responses about kids on the MG or on mature forums-- IMHO its a parent's JOB to keep an eye on their children- NOT hand them a computer and shove em in a corner in some room to occupy the childs time and keep them out of the parent's hair.)

End note here................ I am happy for him that he has put forth the effort and the TIME to put a potentially GOOD outlet and alternative sounding board in place for folks to express themselves since the forums are doomed to be shut down on the SL website. I am sad for him because of the bitchslapping hes recieving from people playing judge and jury.

Anyway, *steps off my soapbox* I've said my piece. I am glad that he put the forum together. I hope that you will all respect his efforts, and understand why he used his new alt to try to get the word out that, yes, theres a new forum available--- should you want to use it.

Sincerely,
Nytemyst Grace

Is officially open, it's new and does not have much content on it yet, please help out by posting any usefull post you've posted on this forum before they close.

http://www.sl-forums.com

Thank you.

Johny et el..thank you for another choice. If SL does close their forums and are hell bent on pushing us all elsewhere, I appreciate you offering an alternative. I have a new outfit coming out in the next couple of days with more coming. I'll be posting in your forums along with others that need to get their products out there! Thank you again!

Well i want to be a careful parent ( mine is 1 year old ). But the sad fact is there are countless children Unmonitored due to the fact of their parent workingmore then 2 jobs or starnge work hours. Saying "it's their own damn fault." is really sad to hear this we all should care .Why because they should have their parents around......Children are "NOT" adults thats why their are so many protection system from the goverment right? Well I care about my child and when she reaches the age of using this great VR world. AND/OR web site that contents mature theme I try my best to make her understand why I care so much what she is doing on the "INTERNET". Blame the parentsyes, but children stil need guided.........You don`t understand this unless your a parent. :)

I care, but it's still their own fault if their kid is on the Internet without supervision. They are the parents and they should be responsible for what their kids watch on tv or access on the net. Nobody else. If they can't monitor Internet usage, then the kid shouldn't be on it, period. You don't need to be a parent to understand this, it's just a matter of responsibility and accountability.

Nytemyst,

I understand your frusturation, but unfortunatley many people DO associate websites with people because if something goes wrong on that website...people want to know who to blame and rant to.

I don't see why he didn't just come out and say it was him. I find him very trustworthy and a very nice person :) Forget the alt! He rocks and so do you ;)!

My questions were reasonable ones. Personally I don't want to be in a forum that's over moderated or where my friends won't be welcome to post if they happen to do something hilarious but against the owner's wishes. Just personal preference. I'll be sticking with Second Citizen, the main reason being that moderation is not an issue and it limits registration to 18 and above (not saying that everyone there IS over 18, but that's the rule there, and nobody I've met there has seemed to be under 18). Censorship doesn't exist at SC except for the "buy viagra/grow your penis" spammers, of which there are few.

Best wishes on your new forum. :)

Some forums have that disclaimer about 13 year olds as a default. One I had once for Halo did that. I left it there.

The disclaimer isnt so much inviting the 13 year olds but is just covering Johny's rear if an underager accesses. :)

My concern about alts is for other reasons which I wont go into here. I certainly didnt intend to make someone feel bad about a new idea.. whoever it was.

My apologies. :)

Usagi, we're derailing the thread so I'll just leave it at this: A parent needs to be responsible for his / her child and the material they have access to. If they're not, they can't blame the Internet if the kid watches porn. The Internet is what it is and it's up to the parents to monitor their children, not to the website owners. They need to be responsible for their kids and not expect everybody else to assume responsibilty for them. Whether or not you have kids is besides the point.

You just joined SL THIS month and you already have a forum up for everyone to use? Not tring to throw a wrench in your flow but with already established forums such as SLUniverse and SecondCitizen don't be surprised if registration is slow.

I was expecting to see a list of SL related forums and links on the site (SL-forums.com) not another new forum created by a newbie that we have never heard of before. But good luck with it in the future. I could be wrong and everyone could be flocking over there to sign up right now.
:p

Sansarya Caligari did have a point as she started this debut. I just added where she left off. I also wish the sight the best not the worse, people do have their own thoughts and reasons. Hence so we all say what we feel. Its not derail its about how people think. Sansarya Caligari thought as always thoughtful and mature, i repect her even bring this issue up about it. But again i wish all luck to the new forums.

**snickers**

Why yes - Sensual is *cough* uniquely qualified in knowing what to do as a business owner.

By the way, how is your *cough* business partner? I guess since you're not in his business anymore, you need to attempt to stick your crooked nose in the business of others?

Rather than trying to tell others how to run business, you may wish to try to reflect a little on yours own.

Awww what happened to your *cough* partner Johnny...did you dump him, or did he dump you? Btw as for dirt, one of your secondery business partners (initials VV if you dont know already) was suspended a long time back for stealing plants from my own business.

I would suggest that if you want to pretend to be better than other, then first actually *be* better than others. Because from this end, you're by far the least qualified person in SL to tell anyone jack about how to run a business.

Btw - Pot, Kettle, Black. Housing, glass, stones. Get the picture?

I suggest you check your group officers list. Ohhh and another metaphor...when you lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas. Looks like I know your own business than you do yourself....even more reason to show your inability to tell anyone anything about how to run business.

I've started some in-world kiosks to link to resident-run forums for Second Life. I was going to avoid forums that have no posts yet, but the general--shall we say--elitism (most polite word I could think of) displayed here has convinced me to go ahead and add SL-forums to the list.

I'm building an in-world forum in Atlas. Sure, its been done before. I'm doing it again.
Let me know if you have suggestions.

LMFAO umm checked the officers and no one with those initials... besides just because they are in a group doesnt make them my business partners... so you cant get any dirt on me you are trying to associate me with others? thats hilarious!
For the record if we are talking about the same VV that is an alt of AC, and she is no way partnered or affiliated with me.. geez someone needs facts...

What, in a limited-access group owned by you and is 'not affiliated? Ohhhhh kay. Your amazing ability to ignore basic concepts just as 'affiliated' explains quite a bit. In the meantime, I hope your business fares better than your grasp on reality.

Luckily, I have no affiliation with you except to poke holes in your overinflated ego. Other than that, I am blissfully free of having to deal with you at all.
