You just joined SL THIS month and you already have a forum up for everyone to use? Not tring to throw a wrench in your flow but with already established forums such as SLUniverse and SecondCitizen don't be surprised if registration is slow.

I was expecting to see a list of SL related forums and links on the site (SL-forums.com) not another new forum created by a newbie that we have never heard of before. But good luck with it in the future. I could be wrong and everyone could be flocking over there to sign up right now.
:p

What are the rules? Are they posted somewhere? Is this forum moderated and if so, by whom? Why is the age limit set at 13, and does this mean content is going to be censored? Sorry, I have a lot of questions before I register. TY for reply :)

I agree with Sansarya.

It looks to us as though you ARE a noob. Anyone can look in world at your profile and see that you were just born and are only about a day old...that's a noob. Even your forum profile shows the month and year you joined. August only has 31 days and we have covered 12 of them. So even if you joined on the 1st you are still a noob.

If you are a current resident with an positivley established profile, business, and or reputation in SL then why hide behind an alt? You say that you are not a noob which I am assuming means that you are an alt of someone else here.

You cannot argue the fact that you are a noob. We can all see your join date and payment status LOL :)

Looks like an age player forum maybe. I don't intend on signing up either. I say stick with the established and reputable forums where the owners are not hiding behind an alt.

Wow. I haven't seen such rudeness since... well, since the LAST time I opened my mouth. ;)

Maybe you could try helpful suggestions instead of bashing a new guy's hopes and dreams.

It's a US law that requires parents consent if someone registers under 13 or there are some strict guidelines that needs to be followed. That's why we enforce that only 13 year old and up can register.

Rules are posted here

Ok lol my intention was this that the forum is not a 1 person related site. I wanted it to be related to the residents of Second Life instead of a second-life business/person.

A very good point - and WHY shouldn't a new user set up a forum?
It represents a fresh start. Running it may prove a thankless task, but at least they have the guts to give it a try. Furthermore this is a new user who is attempting to contribute to SL - WHY spurn their efforts and attempt to trample them?

I say that anyone who doesn't care for the 'established' alternative forums run by SL elite old-timers and vested interests should at least give this a try.

According to him/her...he's NOT a new user, although he just signed up obviously. Why use an alt if you are going to start a new service for the community? People are much less trusting of noobs...and then a noob that has stated that he is indeed NOT a noob?? This doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling LOL.

I think a forum is for new users to be able to get help from more experienced users (Like yourself ;-) I'm just trying to make it none-commercialized and not seen as something that someone is benefitting from in any way.

I think what she means here.. and what I am also kinda wondering is this:

Your account is new. You say you are not new.
It is awesome you are starting a forum.. the more the merrier in my opinion. It just strikes odd that you say you are not a noob.. but your account is very much new.

That is why you got a little razzing here.. not because you have a new forum. :)

Well I did not sign up yesterday saw that there was a forum closing and grabbed the oportunity. I have a main I use daily, I enjoy the forums and tried to do something nice.

Lets see, I'm a 42 years old male, live in US with my wife, im a programmer/web developer/database administrator during the day. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and 3 canaries.
I like walking in the park, watching movies and most of all play SL with all the great people that's here :-) No I lied, I like walking in the park but never do. :-)

Newbie or not, don't diss the effort.

He wants to set up a forum ... THANK him.

What I suggest is tell him what you'd like to see on his forums so he won't be setting up blindly. He can try to copy the format of the SL forums but hey, our input might help.

Now whether it was an alt or a real newbie is IMO completely irrelevant. I have no idea why it needed to be brought up.

13! OMG......"It's a US law that requires parents consent"???????????? now let me ask this how many parents are really going to monitor their kids activies when they themselves are not even around. Just food for thought.

Running a forum is not easy, nor is it something that you need to be a veteran in SL to do. I am an admin on one forum and was also moderating another forum (of an MMOG) when I first stepped into SL.

With the current forums closing what we need ARE more forums to support us. We shouldn't be concentrating into one or two forums. What we need are many forums that can link to each other so that if one forum vanishes the others can pick up the slack easily.

I still think the point is being missed. :)
It is AWESOME he wants to start a new forum. Nobody contests that. Speaking only for me now the kidding him was from when he said he was NOT a noob but he is obivously a new account.
4 years here or 4 minutes is not an issue on starting a forum. :)

Again Johny.. good luck! I think it is cool you want to do this. It was the noobie/not a noobie thing that had me (and I am sure the others) kidding with ya.
I hope you understand the intent was not to bash your good intentions, or even you personaly.

Some people have lots of alts.. so when someone says they are not a noob but have a new account they are gonna have eye brows raised and have it joked with some. :D

Welcome to SL Noob.. uh, I mean Johny. ;)

If the parents aren't monitoring their kid's activities on the net, it's their own damn fault.

Well i want to be a careful parent ( mine is 1 year old ). But the sad fact is there are countless children Unmonitored due to the fact of their parent workingmore then 2 jobs or starnge work hours. Saying "it's their own damn fault." is really sad to hear this we all should care .Why because they should have their parents around......Children are "NOT" adults thats why their are so many protection system from the goverment right? Well I care about my child and when she reaches the age of using this great VR world. AND/OR web site that contents mature theme I try my best to make her understand why I care so much what she is doing on the "INTERNET". Blame the parentsyes, but children stil need guided.........You don`t understand this unless your a parent. :)
