Can I just say how much I laughed at the idea that Goreans are now "PC police." I'm about as left as they get and I still don't pretend to agree with everything. To be honest in this case I think it's just an excuse to stop arguments being made against John Norman's misogynistic fantasies that other people like to roleplay. Gorean fandom is lolarious!

That was more of a General Statement than than referencing Gor, of which I have not much of an opinion on, but I'm glad to have given you the laugh.

Dear fellow Residents

First of all the link might not work everywhere as its a new domain and the DNS settings to point to that host might not be completed yet. You may use this one:

http://sherakasirnah.wordpress.com

Hope that works everywhere.

As far as the everlasting argument about Gor: I will try to show what Gor in Second Life is REALLY all about.

Not all woman on Gor are treated like slaves or like slaves to be. Every woman (and man!!) on Gor knows under what circumstances they can be enslaved. Their acts decide weather they are or not slaves. Slavery is on Gor something commonly accepted, part of live on gor. However its not all about slavery on Gor.

You wil read also about:

- society on Gor
- wars between Cities
- nature and how Goreans think about it

One poster mentioned that he would like to see whats going on outside the cities. I will take that into account as well. Especially as the town where Sheraka is based is right on the Northern Forests, also a trip to the Schendi Jungles and the Southern dessert will be included.

Its not about Gor being good or bad , its about whats going on their without any prejustice.

Regards

Maggie/Sheraka

Perhaps I should point out that by strict Gorean culture, by virtue of you being one of the two types of Gorean women (kajirae and kajirae) your descriptions, opinions and naive understanding are not worthy of the attention of we men.

Pep (Gor on SL is NOT Gor; it is like my kids playing cowboys and indians)

A Free woman who respects the gorean laws and traditions can not get enslaved easily. If she breaks the rules, the council of the city she lives in must be asked and ONLY the council can legally enslave her. Slavery on Gor is a penalty for crimes - penalty for men is more often the death penalty.

Norman is quite clear that the true state of womanhood is enslavement. It reminds me an awful lot of what I read in history as defences of racial slavery (which oddly enough no one in SL roleplays). But the point is that if a Gorean woman takes off her burqa or has sex with a random passer-by, she'll be enslaved for the sin of being a human being with her own will.

Call me when Gor isn't a sexist pile of vomit anymore.

Well, I guess since bots have been done to death, it was about time the Goreans took a turn. On next week's show: furries!

As typically happens when Gor comes into discussion- it becomes a bout of Gor hate- Sight is lost too of Gor as practiced philosophy and Gor in SL.

As someone who has lived with Gorean philosophy for the past four years of my life, I can say Gor is about a hell of a lot more than naked women in nadu. Lately I took to exploring the mindset of the kajirae - I have found there are as many different reasons for their chosen station as there is for any of us and what paths we choose in life. I know one kajira who is just a typical housewife of forty years ago. Stays home, takes care of her family and does what her husband says - only difference is she calls him Master. I know another who said she has no need of respect because her Master is all she needs (that one made me rail and want to shake her by the neck, to be honest-) I know another who is going to university and looking for a degree in a medical field. I have also seen the men in the board I participate in go from men whose opinion I have admired to men I feel have not been true to Gor- so I myself an=m not real happy with Gor right now as portrayed there- but I don't want to see it dragged thru the dirt, Pep- thank you very much. I know how you feel about Gor- you have told me repeatedly- but SL Gor and Gor are very different- so cut it out- and yes, I am a tad miffed with you right now. And BDSM slaves are a far different thing form kajirae as well so stop stirring.

And let's let the OP get back to her thing which was not about what is Gor but about her chronicling SL Gor.
Back to your rant still in progress...

Replace Gor with the SL activity of your choice. If we all remember it, I think we'd have less hand wringing and panty bunching in this forum.
Bunching panties can be fun, depending on who's panties.......

:D

From: Brenda Connolly
No, but that mindset is what the PC police do try to foist upom us. We are being made to believe that we must accept everyone else's beliefs , lifestyles, etc, at the expense of our own, to even say we think differently marks us as intolerant. That's nonsense. Disagreeing makes you human. While we should respect each other as people, and have a Live and Let Live attitude, we don't have to agree with how others think or live their lives, nor should we be afraid to voice our differences of opinion in the proper ways.

QFT !!!!

I don't really give a hoot what the heck other folks do with the SL lives. I, personally, cannot understand why anyone would want to be a part of any Gor society, especially a woman - but to each their own.

And I am actually looking forward to reading this blog and learning more about it. Who knows, maybe I will come away with a new understanding and opinion on Gor. I am open-minded enough to accept that possibility.

I think any thread of that magnitude might just reach the point of singularity, and consume the entire universe...

The most amazing thing about this entire discussion is the total ignorance of Gor and things Gorean on the part of many of those who replied to this thread on Gor.

So many of these people who are posting replies have no idea of what Gor is about. They say BDSM. They say they don't like slavery. We hear political correctness. We hear women's libbers. We hear those angry voices of the ignorant who have totally false or incomplete information.

John Norman wrote 27 books in the gorean Chronicles. In these books he explains the Gorean lifestyle and concepts. If you have not read a single book and have received your information on Gor from others who have not read a single book and are totally wrong then shame you. All you have is a big mouth and opinions based in ignorance.

Now come back and tell us that you don't have to read any of John Norman's books cause you are smarter than the rest of us and your opinions are valid even if based on invalid data. I know we'll get some replies like that. We always do here in these forums.

I have read Mr. Norman's books more than once- including a couple of the non-gor books- reading Witness now actually though set it aside briefly. I know Gor. Gorean are often described as arrogant- good- and why the hell not? When you know damn well what you thought it out and will pay the price - Responsibility, Honor - and a "because I damn well please and if you don't like it stop me" attitude. Arrogant? Maybe- works for me- Just be damn sure you can defend your position and your place- in today's world - your circle of steel is words.

Gorean men do believe there are two types of women - slaves and those that haven't been enslaved- as yet. But they know also it would take a hell of a man to make a Free Woman bend her knee willingly- and again- this is Earth not some space novel- short of lawbreaking and kidnap he better be one hell of a man to make a Free Woman stay there. Gor is not hard for Goreans.
I wish you well

Perhaps you should investigate it further, say by looking at the Gorean Public Board forums; Gor is NOT about BDSM!

That's right. It's BDSM with a side order of D&D.

If you have managed to read one of John Norman's books you're a stoic! They are amongst the most badly written books in the English language! I'm convinced they must destroy brain cells. With all the works of English literature at our disposal, no one with two thoughts in their head worth rubbing together would waste their time reading Norman!
