And yes Liona, there is a reason why the Bible isn't listen on the best seller's list. It is because there NEVER would be another book even close to it's sales volume and never will. The thought that somehow it needs to do better is laughable.

Actually, Chairman Mao has already sold 1/6 of the books and he was around for what... 1/20th of the time of the Christian Bible? At this pace, Chairman Mao will outpace the Bible in a significantly shorter period of time. I think the TRUE path is clear.

:) I support and endorse this thread. :)

I see it as an ironic poke at the hypocrisy of those Christian groups who want warning labels put on science books that teach evolution, and warning labels on many media types, etc.

In other words, I see it as a joke referencing the proclivity of some Christians to try and control what others see, read and believe. How the "N" word reference figures into this I have no clue. I haven't seen any campaigns by people of African ancestry trying to slap on warning labels or censor books and music.

There is a serious fallacy in your argument. The fallacy is that you are trying to REASON.

So... how about blasting out some equally offensive jokes about blacks, jews, gays, etc...

I'm feeling real deprived here - The original remark was edited out before I saw it.

But Billy. We now agree don't we that none of the three groups you site CHOSE to be that way. Thats why they are not fair targets for humour, isn't it? If I CHOSE to wear a huge plastic nose, couldn't I expect some humor and ridicule, whilst if I was BORN like it , it would be very poor taste? We are all equal, and have the right to be accepted as we are, but once we make CHOICES, don't we accept responsibility for them ?

Didn't Christians make a choice ?
Shouldn't they be willing to take the rough-and-tumble consequent upon that choice, and stand up for it calmly, even in the face of ridicule ? Didn't Jesus even SAY something like that ? Did he say anything about silencing dissenting voices? Didn't that come later, with the Spanish inquisition, and the burnings at the stake ?

You think God has no sense of humor?

Still - I don't know how bad it was, do I? Anybody going to tell, or are we into full-scale censorship here now ?

God (or you own personal flavor of creation) has a very interesting sense of humor. Heavy on irony, in fact. :) Eggy, I want ya to know that I don't have any ill will against you...I thought the label had some very good points to make. There was one thing that made me unhappy about it, tho.

Christians do make a choice. They make a choice in *thier own* beliefs, however. It's not about the beliefs of others, but about what is 'written in your heart'. I am a Christian. Yet I support treating all people as equals, and not labeling people as sinners. I support turning the other cheek as opposed to warfare in the name of the Church. Heck, I even support fun flirtation and responsibile sexuality as opposed to the religious right's "Don't Even *Think* About Sex" position.

I have made my choice, and I have based it on tents in the Bible. My main concern is that people look at such things as that picture, and automatically assume that the Bible is a Gospel of Pure Conservative Evangelical Propaganda. It really isn't...it's a good book. It make you think. You don't have to suddenly change your religion or re-register as a Republican to gain meaning from it.

And let's be frank. This was an attack on the Bible. Not on the idiots who give it a bad name, but on the actual text. I'll let the idiots twist in the wind, and I'll call them fools. But I will defend the Bible as a text I believe gives some basic tenets on how to live a good life. It's an aritcle of faith for us Christians...even for the slim minority of reasonable ones. We don't ask you to respect those who take our faith and pervert it...but we do ask you to respect our faith, just as we strive to respect your beliefs, and the beliefs of others.

How is it an attack on the bible of it's true??? The truth is an attack?? Those things are contained in the bible, the Old Testament in particular. It's more of an attack on organized religions campaigns to label other books and media as being bad for containing the very same subject matter that the Bible contains. It's a statement about hypocrisy, not about the merits of the bible.

--Skimming I noticed that "not being a minority" was used to rationalize "attacks" on a group...at least it seemed as if this was implied. Um, no, sorry just because there's alot of them doesn't mean it's ok to tear them down.

--You're fooling yourself if you don't think there's a different standard in place when it comes to "making fun of" or tearing down certain groups (i.e. ones that it is politically correct to tear down). That said, yes to a degree SOME, usually a minority, within those groups do "bring it on themselves" by their poor behavior or actions...I know. But it's still a "two wrongs" style of excuse which happens to be popular because policital correctness allows it to be so.

but

--I'm not offended by this post (nor am I religious really either), but I can understand the frustration felt by those who are--given the attitudes many people have developed in the last, say, decade or so (explained above).

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!
