Hello everyone,
I am starting to get my thoughts together an in-depth article for the SLHerald on the phenomenon of nature in Second Life. It is interesting how we go to great lengths to faithfully simulate what in many cases is right outside, so I'd like to explore the the reasoning behind nature in SL. To do so, I'd like to get in touch with as many of the prominent content creators / landscapers / arborists / etc. involved with "natural" aspects of SL. Natural includes nonliving. I'd be curious to hear Linden Lab's plan (if any) on making fullscale mountain ranges or ravines; the biggest I've seen have been, what, 30m or so?
I'm hoping you can help me find more! So far I've identified:
Khamon Fate Higbee Protagonist The Sojourner Toy Lafollette
++++++ Other interesting folks, if I can catch them ++++++
Cory Linden Robin Linden Philip Linden Hamlet Linden Liaisons Folks at SpeedTree(?)
There's a growing body of sociological research in this area and I think I can incorporate a bit of that in the article without getting TOO crunchy. I look forward to hearing about other folks who could enrich this discussion. Thanks!

Luskwood / Darkwood are both quite beautiful, and be sure to check out Veranderde and the Garth/Pituca/Higbee Oceana. Check out Higbee's web site / database, its VERY complete: http://www.gabrielguyer.com/slparksandrec/His new search functionality ROCKS too! -Flip

Can't wait to see your article, Wintermute.
There are higher mountain ranges in the southeast corner of the grid. I've stood atop one that was something like 200m high.

Awesome. Pathfinder, will this require an external application to be downloaded or purchased?

What about people who do faux-watercolor landscape pics using SL's "natural beauty" and a little Photoshop filtering?

From: Nolan Nash Awesome. Pathfinder, will this require an external application to be downloaded or purchased? The SpeedTree technology will be integrated with the SL client software. Which means everyone in SL will be able to take advantage of this technology. More realism for all. Foliage ROCKS!

What a fantastic idea! I would be happy to discuss all of this at length with you anytime =D Just IM me or you can even email me at: webmaster@gabrielguyer.com
And OOOOOOOOO new toys =D Question... will the CAD program be available for SL users or will we have to purchase it if we want to do that type of design; i.e. Poser?

Did you know that there are / were mammoths roaming free in the New Continent ?

Wintermute Just about everything I create in SL is centered around nature, trees, flowers, animals, fountains and I'm working on some sea creatures. .

I'd personally recommend Neil and Nephilaine Protagonist. Lovely couple responsible for much of the lush scenery in the Chartreuse sim, and more...

You can add me to the list if you'd like. I've done a fair share of "nature" builds, as well as invented a few solutions for natural dynamics (read: prim BVH motion, simple (polar) wave generation, etc). That tree thing is really cool. One thing I'd like to see as well is a Linden-backed water solution, similar to those done by the Torque Game Engine. While I've had success with prim water solutions, and could forseeably build my own "wave generator," the solutions we have are not that easy to implement.

Aretias (home of the Amazons) is naturally landscaped, complete with trees, waterfalls and properly swiming fish in the water...

Add Salazar Jack to your list. He made a HUGE forest on the grid. The Forest of Kahruvel.
