And you are killing the interest in it for others who have wanted to come out, visit and play the game.

Your choice, but I think by the responses on this forum you would understand what people are trying to say to you.

SL is reputation based. If you created something, and it's discussed in the forums, it's business advertising.

"Classifieds" were created because RESIDENTS wanted to post advertisments without getting replies.

Skunk Money was new to me and I appreciated hearing about it. I bought one and put it in Blue.

Texas Holdem was new to me also, and I was lucky to get time to play.

The mod's don't understand - people work their ass off and get their threads moved. People talk shit and make fun of the special olympics, the threads stay.

actually... that reply still seems foolish to me.

Every post I have seen related to "following the rules of posting under certain sections" does not seem sincere or constructive.

Let the Lindens decide what is appropriate or not - they own the forums.

All that I am hearing is "poor me poor me poor me. If you can break the rules why can't I? I am an expert and a long-standing resident of SL, and therefore it is my duty to correct the posts of others."

Let people post what they want to post... when it contributes to the enjoyment of its players.

SL is a game. If people aren't coming to have fun in a tolerant virtual world what is the point?

Do you people have to be so critical all of the time?

I tried to come to Arch's defense about this because of the simple fact that he has donated his time specifically to create something for others to enjoy. Which I have to a very high degree.

Lynn... I apologize.. but all of the points that I have seen regarding this just seem kinda trivial - as well as counterproductive to enjoying the SL experience.

Please understand that I am one of the largest supporters of creativity here in SL.

But "New in SL" is not established to show us "how much the pot is" in either bingo, poker, or even out at the horse races.

I can understand your enthusiasm for something that is new, exciting and fun.

But masking the posts as "non-advertisement" is not fooling one individual here.

I want to come out to the games, I want to play a few rounds; but after seeing the faux advertising, the whining when the aspect is pointed out to your group -- I no longer want to visit.

Maybe the point wasn't made in the best way possible, maybe all of your responses were not in the best way made -- but now there is a sour taste in my mouth -- and like bingo, racing, mah jong, spades and thousands of other events and places to visit -- I don't want to go because of the way it's been presented.

"New" in SL means something newly created -- a one post explanation with a further link to the Classified forums and/or the Events forum and/or to the Group forum.

A daily diary of the game is not appreciated, because after the first night, it's no longer "new" -- thus in my eyes, it's spam and faux advertising. Imagine if every social club/build and/or organization posted their daily activities here. That's why the group forums were created.

I love to see the enthusiasm that you all have for this game; but please don't hide the fact that what you are trying to do is to get more people to visit.

It's new ONCE; second time, events, group forum and/or classifieds is where it should be placed.

Trust me, I've called "come see my new animation, come visit my new house, come see the updated sex chair" events the same way as I've (unfortunately) had to call this one.

It's a nightly event in a social atmosphere where some friendly fun, chat, back-slapping, toe-tapping, fingernail-biting gambling is done. :)

As I ahve seen in the past Lynn, you cannot put to much weight on individuals in the forums until you meet them In-world. Two different facets to our personalities for most, and most of us have seen how easily text can be construed in many different ways here. At least in SL you get a few gestures or emotions to help convey your intent. These are quality people running and attending these events. I really hope we can put all this forum placement nonsense behind us. I do encourage you to stop in just to witness this sometime...despite your sour after taste :p They are good people with good intentions and let's not forget how many people have been made to look much worse in this context then they truly are.

Thank you, my friend, for reminding me that SL is not just black and white.

:)

I owe you one.

Actually, I owe you two -- especially for the toe crack. :)

That is what I am talking about. I've never met these people before last week. It is not "my" group. I am not trying to get more people to visit.

I come to the forums to discuss and read about things that I find enjoyable.

What Arch built really blew me away - I thought that's what this section was for... to share amazing SL experiences.

It's like you are trying to peel away the onion until you find dishonest motives underneath.... when the onion is really just an apple.

When someone tries to "call" me on something.. hinting that I have alterior motives when I don't - not only do I become defensive - but I also go on the offensive....

which isn't productive at all.

If you really have a problem with Arch or Emmy's posts - why don't you contact them or a Linden privately instead of opting to ruin the intended content of the post? The only motive that I can see is to push public embarassment.

I find that disheartening that so many people find it necessary to to say anything but positive things in these forums. Nobody that I have met in world has behaived this way... maybe I am just lucky of who i have run into.

panda,

I replied to forum posts by Arch and the one he started.

So please, reread them all before commenting and accusing individuals of "trying to tear down something wonderful."

And instead of going on the defensive and/or offensive, try sitting back for a few moments and reflect on *why* you have to be so defensive and offensive without being able to discuss said subject in an adult and intelligent manner.

Hmmm... see I thought I was discussing this in an intelligent and adult manner.

You blantantly accused me (or others.. couldn't tell because fo the hidden antecedant) of having less than sincere motives for posting.

Just trying to be honest.

Oh and thanks for the advice... it was so beautifully phrased with no innuendo of personal attack.. I absoltuely have to take it into consideration.

As for me getting on the offensive - should I? Is that what you are trying to contribute? Do you want a nasty response from me?

No worries. I understand frustration well.
I was actually siding with you when I was going to call the forum police.
I will stop by tonight, we will settle this at the tables.

Your own words stated that is why you go on the "offensive" or "defensive" in the forum. I only commented on that statement.

Someone previously in the group posted... and I paraphrase... "You can advertise as long as it's worded differently." I gave full and complete explanations and reasonings for why I posted as I did -- without hiding behind a defense, an offense, or behind the center's perfectly sculpted buns. I ran no defense on any of my posts.

The subtitle for this forum is "Second Life current events"

In RL, an event would include a sale, a block yard sale, and other such things.

Maybe we need two current event forums: one for events that involve transfer of L$ in any way, shape or form (except for dwell) and one for events that do not (very little of this actually goes on given most people have at least _something_ for sale on their land (even if it's only L$1).

The issue at hand, of course, is that this is by _far_ the most popular forum and is thus a great place to chatter and plug stuff.

What we might really need is an out-of-game IM or chat box somewhere on this site... I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not launching the full client while at work just to chat. ;)

*YAWN*

What happended to the actual *interesting* discussions in this forum? Sorry for the dissenting opinion on this thread, Sen...but the whole Poker Series of Threads got old from the 1st thread. Maybe I'm in the wrong forum, tho. I read this one almost exclusively since it seemed to be where SLers talk about the game, share what's happening , debate, and generally fool around. If we're really restricting this forum to only new events (non-advertising) in the game, most of the posts here, including this one, should be off-topic.

And I would defintely stop reading.
