The new SL griefers?

Ok, so I dance in a club. Lots of people do that, for extra money. No big deal. I dont do escort, as a personal preference. Lots do, and thats fine. No problem.
There is a jerkoff, becoming well known, who has taken it upon his "christian" claiming self to destroy all clubs with "whores". I'm presuming he means women in general, since several of the clubs he is bombing dont even have escorts, or allow them. I saw him with my own eyes dropping the bombs, creating hell for lag, crashing people by the DOZENS. Not once....not 5 times...closer to 12 now. Maybe he doesnt like the places I hang around. Tough Shit Bud. Many club owners are unhappy about this. We need to make a concerted effort to stop this terrorism, or we will not have an SL to play! How bad does it have to get? Does he have to come into your personal home before you will do whats right?
I am presuming here that not enough people are actually filing abuse reports when they get blown out of a club, crashed, or just lagged to hell. I would like to think the Lindens arent getting enough complaints to ban him completely.
Not everyone in SL goes to clubs. But they are a big part of what many of us do want in SL. If it goes too far...nobody will want to have a club. Its too much trouble to deal with him. He walks right past bouncer scripts on which he is targeted. The club security shot him at point blank range, and nothing.
I would like to hear from some of the club owners! As well as guests!
Its like everything else.....either we hang together, or hang separately.

Would it help, do you think, if there was a Club Owners' Group. So that when one club gets hit by an idiot griefer, they can relay his name to the others, who can then ban him from all clubs?

There are too many griefers in SL and its about time they were eliminated by LL.

Here's a thought out of leftfield from me:

Right now, we are depending largely on still screenshots, and chat log circumstances and other textual evidence in order to talk about this griefing activity.

I thought of something when you mentioned "club", Lindela: clubs in the offline world use video cameras to catch surveillance of vandalism and other criminal activity. In SL, there is an option to record a movie to a disk. I haven't really tried it and from what I've heard, it can be kind of kludgey, but it would nevertheless paint a fuller picture of inworld activity and what's happening -- as opposed to a few slipshod snippets here and there.

Would it not be possible in future versions of SL, to have some sort of an inworld "webcam" for various purposes like this? It could be mounted in a club, to capture a wide angle field of vision, and activated with a script command by the club owner or appointed security (take that as you may, and may it do ya well). Controlling the cam with arrow keys and a "get behind the cam mouselook" mode might also be an option. The footage could be stored, on the fly, to a Linden Lab server and retrieved for playback and provided as evidence. Perhaps it could be watermarked or treated with some form of encryption as to authenticate its proof as having been non-doctored.

While there is a certain breakdown in the analogy of offline and online video surveillance, I see that there could be a very useful need for this. 'Cuz as it stands, if one wasn't actually there, it's hard to tell what went down. It's like making a patchwork quilt out of bile, for crying out softly. :)

I dunno if that's necesary, Torley. I've heard of and seen plenty of club griefers, and they don't grief for long before they are banned.

Ah yes... I also refer to the broader aspects, however -- of such future technology. It, of course, has other uses. Sometimes I'd like to show someone who doesn't have an SL account what's going on inworld, and still pics don't cut it. Also on a related note, SL reality TV. ;)

Dont forget that what you see is different from what they will see. You see a whole virtual world full of people; they see a bunch of coloured pixels. One's imagination fills the gap between the two, but it takes time, and just looking at a non-interactive video is unlikely to bridge that gap.

Yeah. Nothing like actually BEING THERE. :)

But some people... at first at least, they just like to watch.

Tell this 'christian' the wussy patrol called and want their crying shawl back. I mean, its bad enough guys get slagged, we don't need another nutjob walking around trying to be St. Peter at the pearly gates.

Patron Safety
12-30-2004 07:30
I am on the verge of opening up a new establishment in hopes of attracting a substantial number of patrons on a regular basis. After reading this thread, however, I am a bit concerned I may be gearing up for a grand opening unprepared for the perils that may lie ahead. What, if anything, can I do to help protect my patrons from such terrorists attacks? I see references to bouncer scripts but, being a relative newbie, I do not have knowledge or experience with such things. Are there other tools and/or utilities that I should also investigate before firing up the "OPEN" neon sign??? Please advise. Thank you.

I agree entirely with Lindela. Her and I work at the same club and I was blasted out 3 times. 2 Sims away might I add. I have filed numerous abuse reports based on what other ppl saw, as I did not see who was doing this. It has GOT to stop. Its stupid and annoying. I come into SL to not think about bombs and terrorists and the like. We have RL for all that already.

:) well some guns auto target people on their list, and shoots/port them out, easiest would be to just ban them - when you find out who's being annoying, and file reports.

I noticed theres never the owner of land/sim, around when you need them :p

I have one of those guns that can reach anyone anywhere in a sim, Wich the sim owner found out fast cause i shot her a few times Soooorrry Felicia, and Moosehead, Kimberly ,, i accidentally shot them a few times :p /group hug

and yeah Nora Belvedere - your constant spamming of 1 line every forum post is making me think you dont have anything to contribute to a post at all,

So making pointless threads just to say hi to your friends is okay? And replying with "lol" or some equally useless response is okay? This is what we see on the forums, so we figure its okay for us to post nonsense as well.

if he's doing this regularly, his card/ip/something should be banned.

The idea that he can walk past bouncer scripts is a little disconcerting though. If the bouncer script is worth the money you paid, it would require either masking his key somehow (??) or sitting on something non-physical and invisible that has a walking anim and a movement script. Either of these suggests that he has some good connections, or is really putting a serious effort into this.

The only way I can see to stop the griefing is to ban weapons period and make a seperate grid for people that want to use weapons.

So all those product announcements, scripting tutorials and technical announcements and the like are worthless?

What would not be worthless to you then?

Won't work.

Everything is a weapon in the right hands.
