Shooting, pushing, shoving, or otherwise targeting another
Resident in a manner prevents that Resident from enjoying
their Second Life is a violation of Safe area standards.

The rules of conduct are interpreted with the broadest meaning possible.

Discipline

While we understand that some violations of the Community Standards may be
unintentional or inadvertent, every Second Life Resident is responsible for
ensuring that their actions do not disrupt the lives of their fellow
Residents. While first offenders will generally receive a simple warning,
violations of Community Standards and/or Terms of Service may result in
temporary suspension from the community. Repeated violations will result
in permanent banning.

As a result of this violation, your Second Life account is
being temporarily suspended for a period of 14 days. It
will return to active status on Monday, Jan 03, 2005.

If you believe that this notice has been sent in error, or that the
details of this incident have not been adequately examined, please address

and 2) I wasn't logged on at the time of my "E-ASSAULT"

It's examples like this that reinforce my support of California's 'Three Strikes and You're Out' law. If someone is getting suspended repeatedly, then it's clear they're not getting the hint. Send them packing - maybe they'll have more fun in TSO or even There.

If you're claiming to be Grimmy returned, then I suspect your next suspension might be longer than you expect. Unless of course you fully expect to be banned ... I dunno...

Naw. I think he's just name dropping to try and justify his actions as a griefer. And anyway, Grimmy was far more eloquent, literate and imaginative.

Perhaps so, but I still think that claiming to be a famous griefer is likely to get one into trouble, especially if the Lindens believe it.

I am not Grimmy Moonflower. I never claimed to be. I merely think his ideas have merit.

Let me relate towo personal incidents without naming names (Lindens know who is involved in each), whic illustrate why thisis not cute at all. About three weeks ago, a companion and I were intimately enjoying my apartment and each other's company. suddenly a strange man, who was visiting a neighbor, burst into my apartment interrupting my companion and I with an unwelcom stream of sexually suggetions about what we could to to and with him. for 20 minutes this harrangue continued despite my insistence that he leave. I have no idea what, if any action was taken, but he remaned on the property for the rest of the evening, despite this being reported to the Live help team.

It is not cute that we should be subjected to such digusting behavior and that no immediate banning is carried out on the first offense for life. IMHO, there should be not tolerance whatsoever for this. Yet, to my knowledge, this individual continues at large in SL.

The second incident occurred yesterday. i logged on to find that my apartment complex had been deleted and the land sold, leaving all residents and shopkeepers out their rents, many paid up in advance to several weeks. this individual owner aparently zeroed otut his inworld profile and either dissappeared or assumed an alt identity. though the matter is under investigatino, no resolution has been found and prsumably the culprit has made off with several hundred dollars RL value in Lindens...perfectly negotialble online. Question: What is anyone's motivation for participating in commerce at all with nothg to protect oneself against unscrupulous people. In this case, the landlord owner announced plans to sell the property intact for ahuge sum and not to expect an immediates sale. Reasonably relying on that, we paid our rents only to have them stolen without recourse.

So the next time you want to joke about felon status, remmember that people are being hurt in serious ways daily. Thank you very much for your insinsitivity to the gravity of this situation.

The land was purchased some time ago and developed as a residential complex. complete with shps, club, etc. he decided to divest and sold it to someone after giving written commitments that it would be sold as a going concern. The rents from residents and merchants amounted to several thousand L$ per week. He scammed us for another weeks rent t=with the lie that he would sell it complete and took the rents and left.

don't act like you don't understnd that this is fraud both inworld and out of it. No doubt, he left owing LL quite a bit in land tier fees too, since he owned the majority of the tow sims occupied by this development.

L$ will get their money. Unless he cancelled out his credit card. Yes, this is fraud and not griefing. I cannot advocate fraud.

As the Lindens pointed out, anyone can dispute and reverse a credit card transaction. At any rate, their point to me is that there is no structure for resolving disputes between residents. Caveat Emptor as an official policy ultimately means no commerce because there is no basis for trust and no protections for the parties agains those of ill will.

I feel for you. You did not suffer griefing. You suffered fraud. Which is a crime in the real world and SL.

I don't know you at all, but I will go point by point about this document you seem to be hiding behind.

To you it is a game, to others it is more.
This is merely a different perspective on Second Life, and does not give you the right to force your perspective on others through griefing. Excellent, you view SL as a game, but you do not play a game at others expense.

You view, according to this document, other peoples creations as worthless. This is a view that very few people take or they would not play SL in the first place, but, real time, effort, and energy goes into these creations, worthless to you or not, that time, effort, and energy is not worthless. To say that it is worthless is to rebuke everything that SL is. If you truely believe this document holds value, why do you play SL. It seems to conflict with everything SL stands for.

Reading this document further, you can argue that you are trying to do good by acting as a cure for escapism. I disagree, and would further point out that you are trying to force your viewpoints and ideas onto others. If you want to start a crusade against Online Computer Games and Virtual Worlds, by all means, do so. But do not resort to 'schoolyard bully' tactics to get your point across. This document makes clear the fact that you can and should use any tactics necessary to get your message across and make the game fun for you, regardless of how other people feel.

This message makes clear a number of things.
1. Complete disregard for how the other players, who are real people from around the world, feel and think.
2. That your enjoyment of what you call a game is paramount over the other people and the rules.

I offer the following arguement.
This is a game and all games have rules, if you do not abide by the rules of the game you are no longer playing the game.

If you wish to play the game, play by the rules (clearly outlined in the Terms of Service).

Also, you should make an effort to understand that there are a very diverse group of players in this 'game' who are all real people, who all have real feelings. Griefing them for your own enjoyment has a real effect on those people being griefed, not to mention that in many cases it is against the TOS. You should make an effort to:

1. Play the 'game' by the rules of the game (TOS)
2. Make an effort to understand how your actions are effecting other players.

I think if you will try this, you will find 'the game' has many things to offer, including being much more fun than the self-indulgent laughter at your own actions by upsetting others through your own actions

For the record, I am not "hiding" behind anything. I just identify with Grimmy's manifesto.
And you are 100% correct - its all about personal perspective.

Not correct. Its just something I never thought of before reading Jessica's post.

Then at least you understand that this is more than a matter of "fun and games" to some of us who have been harmed in real world ways. I'd say that the basic slap on the wrist that most offenders get is only an encouragement. I'd dare say that if such violations carried a no-tolerance, lifetime ban from the game, then there would be less felonious behavior. But since it would alwo affect their pocktbooks, it seems likely that the Lindens will never rein in the bad guys who spoil this for the rest of us/
