From: Hiro Pendragon And get ripped off.
Or, you can sell to the highest bidder on GOM, and have your money in your account in 1 minute. Get ripped off? How So? Everytime I have sold to IGE, they are buying for more than anyone on GOM.

Hi
01-06-2005 14:18
Well as you may have heard abou the mistake i'm hear to set this straight IGE did in fact give me 10 million linden by mistake, no i did not keep it or sell it. It took 4 times to get through their live help. I'm guessing they thought it was a joke. So after much haggling, threats, and personal insults i managed to get ahold of a higher up on the department. I was issued 30k and a refund for this collosal mess. However i must admit it was sorely tempting to *ceonsored* over IGE thanks to their employee's disdainfully horrid behavior. To those it may concern, if i had kept the money its most likely the lindens would have taken it back anyways. If i had sold it then i could be held responsible for grand larcency since the value was well beyond the 10k mark. And so thats the end of the story. If you want pictures of IGE and his/her pink dress then contact me or if you just want a screen shot i can do that too. Please do not ask for money as i don't have it

They could at most take you to court to recover their money and I have actually heard these kinds of cases would be hard for them to win. But honesty is the best policy. You did a good thing, sucks they gave you the run-around for it. They SHOULD have given you a reward.

Milo's lazy swims through Lake Ahern find IGE Wheeling there quite often. Usually he's nervous around humans but lately he's been pondering if IGE wears cement shoes, the pink beastie often just sort of sits at the bottom of the lake, unmoving...... :>

For more research on this subject, if a case like this were taken to court, the legal term used would be "unjust enrichment." All that would need to be proven was that the transfer of L$ was a mistake, and that L$ constitute a benefit to the receiver.

Linden would just step in. Doubt GOM would let you sell the money, either.
However, it would have been really amusing if you just started GIVING it away.

From: Sensual Casanova Sad thing is Ricky, IGE still beats you at convenience... when you can make buy/sell transactrions occur within 5 minutes I am sure myself and others would switch to GOM... but until then... I personally am sticking with IGE. Thats a joke. I can get money from GOm in under 5 minutes where IGE has taken up to 2 hours. GOM is automated and you don't have to worry about them giving your money to someone else

They would have to snag Wolf in Hong Kong, if he ever showed up.

Duly noted, Wolf. "Rocco Hood" jokes aside, glad you've made it through to the other side, and I agree IGE should have been far more communicative and responsive in not only getting back to you, but replying to IMs a number of us sent encouraging the expedite-ition of this all. Compensation aside, it's just good business sense and common courtesy. Blogged.

I won't have anything to do with IGE because he flew onto my property and shot up my house a few months back. That's not the best way to attract business in my book.

How exactly did that go about? "Shot up", as in IGE armed up Seburos or another firearm and started gunning away? That's just . . . well, I need a new word for it. :|

That's just . . . well, I need a new word for it. :| It was a bit pre-Seburo, I think. I mainly got the Seburo as a result of his attack; I'd never really had much in the way of firepower. We had a ban on guns, as a matter of fact. He just flew into DarkWood and did a fly by shooting. Nothing particularly uncommon about that back then.

IGE clearly shows that they make a business out of this, and GOM has a record of going rates and volume traded. There are legal precedents regarding theft of characters being successfully prosecuted. The only complication to a legal case against Rocco, if he had kept the money, is proving that Rocco had knowingly done something wrong. After all, he was given the money, it's not even like the money was left in a bag that he picked up. Of course, this is moot, morally. Rocco did the right thing and was rewarded with $120US worth of L$. That's a pretty sweet reward.

I think the 1st order of a case would be to get the court to accept that it was "Property". If the court acknowledges that, then it would be no different than if a Real Bank mistakenly put a million dollars in your account and you withdrew the cash and the next day the bank called saying you've gotta return that money. And I'm sure there is a precedence for such in the record books. The key is getting the court to value virtual property.
