Weirdness is, the leaderboards still show him on top... Anyone know if he actually did end up keeping the money?

IGE wouldn't just give someone L$9,000,000 randomly. For crying out loud, they refuse my perfectly functioning card because of "Fraud Control" ...

They did the same to me. And they were extrordinarily unhelpful when I contacted them about it. I'm GOM all the way now.

I feel safe in saying that if he did keep the money (and I don't think he did, the leader board's probably not updated all that often), we'll be hearing about it. Possibly even on CNN - the great virtual train robbery.

Appart from what constitute decent behaviour, does anyone know legal situation in such case?

If company makes mistake and accidently sends 38000 US$ payment, could receipient just walk away or would that be theft and sueable?

Not sure that someone handing you virtual cash is necessarily a robbery. But I'd love to know about this from a legal standpoint... I mean, the Lindens say that the L$ has no value - and it doesnt, save for the fact that the likes of IGE and GOM allow the trade in L$ for USD. And it's not like there is any kind of enforceable contract between you and IGE when it comes to the L$ side of the transaction, as far as I can see.

I think I'd be inclined to hang on to it just to see how IGE and LL reacted, frankly :)

Edit: Dammit, Anshe! (what is it with me posting the same as other people at the exact same time atm? I guess they'll always beat me, cuz I tend to waffle on, huh?)

Well, I don't think it's a robbery either, strictly speaking - but I bet it would get painted that way if it was considered of interest by outlets like CNN.

And I can't say for the leal standing of it at all, expecially since this gets international (Wolf's Norwegian, I think.), hwever that does represent a certain potential of real currency, and I suspect IGE would consider testing this in the courts.

This is really a fascinating little event. :)

In other news, IGE gave away $10 gift certificates for the New Years / Christmas. I haven't cashed in my 2kL yet.

Yes. They were kind enough to give away $10 gift certificates....then raise all their prices by exactly $10. Merry F*ing Christmas! :)

The IGE lottery!

I tell ya, if they sent me 9 million lindens I'd launder it thru alts and friends and alts of friends, cancel my SL account and take a long vacation in Spain before they even realised. Then when the cash filtered thru GOM and Paypal, I'd use the 38k to go on a world cruise while they try and find me to sue me  :p

Come to the US :) With 38k, you could buy me almost half a watch :p

I think it takes like 24 hours to cycle through people on the leaderboard, doesn't it?

And yes, this is yet another reason to use Gaming Open Market and not IGE.

I don't think there is enough Buy Orders on GOM to sell into.. $10/million Linden Dollars is a lot of cash... I don't there is more than about L$2/million in Buy Orders at a reasonable price.

But they raised their prices by the same $10 they were giving away. But now, after the "gift" has expired, they lowered their prices. It's almost back to the pre "gift" price. Isn't that interesting?

...and even after reducing their prices, they're *still* 25%-35% more expensive than buying through GOM.

Of course, we don't have the added bonus of random L$10,000,000 giveaways. ;)

IGE isn't buying any more than about L$6,000 Linden Dollars. Their website says they buy up to L$250,000.. Guess IGE is flush (was flush) with Linden Dollars and refuse to buy more until they can offload what they have. But the prices their charging are almost US$1.00 more per L$1000 than GOM.

Sad thing is Ricky, IGE still beats you at convenience... when you can make buy/sell transactrions occur within 5 minutes I am sure myself and others would switch to GOM... but until then... I personally am sticking with IGE.

You can SC... You can buy L$ on GOM, log into the game, visit the ATM, and withdraw that cash instantly.. The same with deposits. You can deposit money into the ATM, exit the game, and view your balance on the GOM website. Its much quicker than waiting on IGE.
When was the last time you used GOM?

I dont buy lindens, I sell them, I can sell my lindens to IGE, they pick up and have the USD in my pay pal account within 5 minutes... last time I looked into GOM it worked totally different.

it was Wolf Rocco.

I was around to witness a bit of Zero-gate. I feel a bit sorry for Wolf Rocco, poor kid was was green as (#00FF00) and he seemed to want to do the right thing. I'm going to try to throw some free stuff his way if I can.

And get ripped off.

Or, you can sell to the highest bidder on GOM, and have your money in your account in 1 minute.
