This matter is way beyond LL's scope of abilities and wishing otherwise won't make it so. The threats should stop and having the FBI know that you have made such threats serves as a severe deterrent toward future threats and any retalitory action the knowledge that the FBI knows where you are and what you have threatened makes you the first person they come looking for in the event of further action.

How would this matter be way beyond LL's scope? They don't have the power to perma-ban this person, effectively putting an end to the threats? Their own ToS isn't within their scope? You lost me on that one...

What she is doing outside of SL regarding this is a private matter.

Certainly anyone who feels it is a serious situation should contact the police if they feel in danger.

The same could be said about what LL is doing to enforce its rules of service.

The point I made in another post is that if she had contacted the police and were to give LL a case/reference number, they may take a little more action in this matter.

Keep in mind that all it takes to register an account is a valid credit card. If a griefer asks a friend or relative to register on their behalf, Linden Labs will have no choice but be reactive in the matter simply because they won't know the difference between a returning griefer and a legitmate new user until the damage is done.

They will soon run out of credit cards *if* LL perma bans them when they continue the behaviour as another user.

They could always send a letter to the registered address of the credit card to inform the griefer's friend or relative exactly what the card was being used for. I would find that quite embarassing!

If they suddenly start behaving under the new account, great, it's a good way of burying the past.

LL has little power to make an *effective* perma-ban given the ability of vindictive people to use other identities (credit cards, ip addresses, etc.). You are correct the ToS is in their scope, but they can't stop this harrassment nearly as effectively as people with out-of-game enforcement power. I hope that makes my point more clear.

Actually, LL claims they do. Such tools are by no means 100% prophylactic of course, but there do seem to be differing opinions on whether or not LL makes use of them when they should.

well i'm back and not at all surprised that this griefer was at it again. what is the first thing i encounter?....a threatening email message from the psycho we all have been dealing with for months. My fellow club owners also tell me his attacks on my club in my absence were extremely disruptive and unnerving. So.......I will continue to do as i have always done...abuse report....abuse report.....abuse report. What amazes me is that he continually gets chances....2nd...3rd...4th etc. and I keep trusting Linden Labs to do the right thing. A permanent ban.

Anymore....I feel like i am numb to the online attacks. But as they occur again and again it is unsettling to say the least. And it is not just impacting me...but others throughout SL...those who attend the club and it really does impact the new players. When is enough -- enough?

For me....I would certainly even be tolerant of a three strikes and you are out for good policy ---

I appreciate the support of sl members in keeping this topic fresh and important. Because unfortunately I think this is an issue that effects many in sl and i suspect it will continue to surface again and again as our world grows... there needs to be firm and decisive action by Linden Labs on repeat offenders.
